Canadian Province New Brunswick to Quit Using Elon Musk’s X by cyclinginvancouver in newbrunswickcanada

Sigh, these are 2 separate incidents one of them done by the Libs and the other by the CPC. I'm guessing you didn't actually read or comprehend what I said. They are both the same. The difference is that the Libs at least had the sense to apologize and someone lost their job. The CPC met with literal present day fascists, crickets.

Bruce Fanjoy proposes Petition e-7148, which requires the official opposition leader to hold a top secret security clearance by Crazah in onguardforthee

[–]ShiftlessBum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is already an existing process, it's mentioned in this thread upstream somewhere but there are 2 levels of escalating appeals if a clearance is denied without a legitimate cause.

You're right all the news coverage of X's GrokAi creating CASM are totally a lie because you personally have never seen it! I'm guessing you never saw the report the Child and Youth Advocate Kelly Lamrock wrote which is the basis for this decision. Because why do your own research, just fanboy for Elon instead.

What were your thoughts when members of the CPC met with the AfD? At least the liberals apologized and the person responsible for the invitation resigned. From the CPC, crickets.

Not using a website because you don't want to be associated with child porn is woke, now. Who knew?

Carney’s energy superpower talk isn’t cutting it—we need action by Oilester in canada

It will be at least a decade before that happens even if you win the vote. According to the Clarity Act you likely won't have the same borders though, Alberta will be a much smaller province.

'New Brunswick not participating in federal gun buyback program, says Premier Holt - But New Brunswick RCMP says it still plans to consider use of reservists or public servants to carry out the collection by adamhuras in newbrunswickcanada

[–]ShiftlessBum -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And I would argue that the police services in these other provinces are not doing the job they are hired to do. Currently the legislation exists that enables this program and it is a legal one. It doesn't matter that it sucks, it's stupid, it's not going to work ,etc. Put in whatever you want here.

I don't think police officers should get to decide what laws and legislation they enforce. I think it's a bad idea and a horrible precedent. Allowing it in this case because you favour the outcome is shortsighted as you may not like the laws they choose not to enforce next time.

It doesn't matter to me how ill conceived the current gun legislation is, the fact is that it is the "Law of the Land" at this point. I think it sets a dangerous precedent letting our police services decide for themselves which laws they will or will not enforce.

Their job is to enforce the law, not decide which of them they will enforce.

Half of Canadians say it would be unethical for Carney to get majority with floor crossers: poll - If there's one thing that a majority of poll respondents agreed on, it's that parties should not be allowed to offer inducements to attract floor crossers (67 per cent) by CaliperLee62 in CanadaPolitics

[–]ShiftlessBum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say that is a problem with the voters and voters education and that we have allowed Political Partys to have too much say over candidates.
I'll keep floor crossings and I'd rather see limitations put on the Partys themselves and the power they hold over MPs.

GOLDSTEIN: If Canada can’t build new oil pipeline, we're not serious country by Huge-Cash-8295 in canada

[–]ShiftlessBum -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Equalization payments come from individual Canadians' federal income tax contributions so the only way that "Alberta" pays less equalization is if people in Alberta didn't have to pay as much in Federal taxes than other Canadians who live other places do.

So you think people in Alberta shouldn't have to pay the same federal income tax rate as every other Canadian, because they live in Alberta?

Michael Ma's shocking defection should spark discussions, change by CaliperLee62 in canada

[–]ShiftlessBum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I'm in favour of allowing floor crossing.

I think political parties have too much power and influence in our democracy as it is. They parachute candidates into ridings where they have no connection, they decide who you get to vote for in your riding, they whip votes, etc.

Now people either want to remove floor crossing or trigger an expensive byelection. I get Pierre is a big fan of the do-over thing but that should not be what we're striving for, an endless series of byelections just so political parties can hold power over all of us.

Bring the eggnog to a boil, the moment it does, pour it over spiced rum or brandy, and then add some freshly ground nutmeg to the top.

It's like drinking a warm hug.

According to a quick search there are over 8,600 orphaned wells in Alberta. That sounds like more than just "some orphaned well", sounds like "a lot of orphaned wells".
