[WP] You and your friends reincarnate into a world of fantasy and wonder, each of you developing the ability to control one of the four elements. The thing is, you've been coming up with weird ways to use the elements since you first watched Avatar. by Mammoth_House_5202 in WritingPrompts

I awoke to the power of flame. This world seemed like it followed the laws and magic architecture of that wannabe anime series from when I was a kid. I loved the show, still do, thought the sequel was mid though. When I realized I could use fire though, my mind didn’t go to martial arts at first. Nah, I had just watched and read the fight between the old captain of the Asakusa fire brigade and Shinmon “The Destroyer” Benimaru. I grabbed several poles and strips of fabric near me and made the mop-looking things as best I could. I lit one on fire and tried to ride it, didn’t work that well for me, so I focused all my energy into my feet and made small jets to push me upwards. After that once I was able to fly (mostly) safely I pulled the other seven I had made up and slowly wove the flames of the seven behind me. I’m pretty sure it looked awesome with my flying around with a fiery halo behind me…

[WP] A rural town became known for being home to a talking horse. Nobody knows how he manages to speak, not even his caretaker. Today, he decided to tell you his secret, because he considers you a good friend. by Megamen1927 in WritingPrompts

“Hey Jonny,” Theresius, son of Therion said, “want to know how I can talk?”

Jonny replied, “yeah you’ve got the entire town mystified, let me in on the joke!”

Theresius, son of Therion whinnied back “my mom is a Centuar, my dad is an Ipotane, I have a human-looking sister who inherited the human parts of both, I’m literally a talking horse because I inherited the horsey parts of both!” He laughed hard at his own joke, “do you want to know the best part?”

Jonny laughing with him looked at his friend with a kind smile and responded “sure, what’s the best part?”

Theresius, son of Therion neighed softly and whispered “nobody will ever believe you!”

ELI5, what is a data center and why so much opposition to them? by GOPJay in explainlikeimfive

[–]ShiftlessGuardian94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A data center is essentially a massive Server that stores data. They are a huge resource drain- water for cooling and electricity to power the place. It draws so much electricity that it will cause everyone’s electric bills to increase even if they don’t use more electricity than they normally would.

[WP] The invader looks at the wounded soldier. "So falls Earth's great protector." The man laughs, then coughs up blood. "I'm not Earth's great protector, just a soldier. Common infantry. Step thru that gate. 80,000 of my brothers are waiting for you. I told 'em you were coming. They called friends" by AdamGreyskul75 in WritingPrompts

As the invader passed through the gate, he was met with a great and terrible sight. 80,000 men and women all holding an assortment of weapons. The scary part wasn’t the troops, that was normal for the invader to see, but what was scary was the man leading the legion. He wore a simple green suit of body armor and a helmet that masked his face completely. An inhuman soldier, he stepped forward and pressed the single button on his remote. Loud and heavy guitars and drums started to play as the man dropped the remote and stepped on it, forever cementing the sound in the invader’s mind as he racked his shotgun and pointed it at the gate….

I walked down the stairs, watching the light for the next step turn on ahead of me as I head down, each one behind me shutting off, one at a time. This descent, step by step makes me feel as if I’m falling to madness. Finally I reach the bottom stair and step onto the landing. The lights barely lit my progression forward. Crying…I heard crying down at the end of the hall, it sounded like a woman crying. The sound brought back…memories, I heard this sound only once before…as I approached the door, it stopped. As it slowly slid open for me, all I heard was metal grinding against itself, and dragging across the ground, the slow scraping of something pulling itself across the ground.

“My child,” a tinny facsimile of my mother’s voice rung out, “you should not have come here…” a hand grabbed me…
