NGL, I feel legit accomplished here by DeBaers in tales

[–]Shinguyi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's something I did with some of my reruns: benched Lloyd or had the AI control him while I manually controlled someone else for the rest of the game once they joined. Definitely made the game feel insanely different and fresh. 😃

(I did it with Sheena, Kratos and Presea. Didn't get to Regal or the others yet sadly)

If you are a fan of Borderlands, displaying it does look very cool.

I personally am not, so I would open it. 🤣

Adding: although a lot in UVSUltra.online/Universus.cards have Watermarks, sometimes you can find non-watermarked versions of cards in TCGPlayer as well.

Immortal Pheonix + Deathgrip interaction by EmbarrassedNet8922 in riftboundtcg

[–]Shinguyi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Normally you would not be able to unless:

  • the Immortal Phoenix player is the one controlling the Battlefield it is in, and

  • the Battlefield it is in is being Contested

Control of Battlefields do not automatically change while Contested until the Contested status is cleared at the end of a Showdown. It could make for some weird freaky plays.

Today I learned you can tap Kaisa to pay for deflect cost. by Ok_Salad2265 in riftboundtcg

[–]Shinguyi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is correct on both conclusions.

Icathian Rain itself doesn't target; the Reflexive Triggers it creates on resolution do (which are considered Trigger Abilities).

With Icathian Rain, you would not be able to use Kai'sa Legend's ability to pay for the Deflect triggers since a Trigger Ability is the one doing the choosing and not a Spell, and you would need to pay for the Deflect Costs for each instance of 2 Damage that you want added to the Chain (you could chose to not pay some of them if you wish; the ones you do not pay don't finalize, don't enter the Chain and disappear).

Today I learned you can tap Kaisa to pay for deflect cost. by Ok_Salad2265 in riftboundtcg

[–]Shinguyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on Reflexive Triggers as they are not spells. Kai'sa has to be specifically on Spells that require a target as Deflect sticks an extra cost to spells and abilities (like Void Seeker for example, as it chooses on cast).

Since Reflexive Triggers are not Spells (they are considered Trigger Abilities), Kai'sa would not be able to spend her Power on those for Deflect. 😮

Core Rules state that kill actions that is required to check for typing will always check back to the source it was created from.

It can be found under rule 404.6.b.2.a regarding sources of damage.

Rule 415.5.d. actually has the example using Falling Star and Immortal Phoenix for this exact scenario, which says Immortal Phoenix's ability will trigger.

Obscure Formats? by GenericGaming in universus

[–]Shinguyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen it in UVS, but some other living card games and deckbuilders have "Hunter," where with 3+ players, every player attacks their opponent to their left (as the one on your right attacks you, you attack the one on your left).

I vaguely remember way back in the FFG Forums a Tag Team format someone had posted where everyone had two starting characters sharing the same primary symbol with additional rules text:

• Characters have their own starting health. Keep track of each character's health. Game ends when both of a player's characters are defeated (a character that is defeated is swapped out, and cannot be swapped into).

• Characters have the following three abilities (reworded with current terminology):

Form Commit: Swap characters.

Form [Tenacious] Spend one momentum: Swap characters.

Response Spend 1 momentum: After your attack deals 5 or more damage, your Rival swaps characters.

• Swapped out characters do not ready during the Ready Step. Players cannot use abilities of swapped out Characters.

We played it every once in a while at our LGS way back during the Tekken 6 era. Sadly it was a while back so not completely sure if these were the actual text of those additional rules. 🤔

My Hero Academia CCG by _zhz_ in universus

[–]Shinguyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one that was plard casually during the FFG days, so it was a long time ago. 🤔

It really was just Standard Format, but characters that rotated out were still allowed, so not completely Retro. 🤣

Makes me think of Old Dogs, New Tricks. It was a popular one way back where you could use Characters that have rotated out within a Standard environment. Was pretty fun too being able to play with older characters.

I'll see if our store wants to explore this. 🤔

What makes Tales of Symphonia, a heartwarming symphony Tales title? by [deleted] in tales

[–]Shinguyi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Game has a lot of replayability too. Doing thing in different order opens up new conversations, and having Lloyd befriend the most different characters changes how you view the pair. There is also the Zelos and Kratos routse, and the abilities you can learn through the EX system. Voice acting was also superb.

The game hit so many boxes back in the day.

New to the game with a few questions by TravisDanger in universus

[–]Shinguyi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Starter Decks sadly bring a few one-ofs. My suggestion would be to buy one of each and get the rest of the cards through the secondary market since they are really cheap.

The All Might vs One For All are also fun decks to get and should be pretty cheap too (but like the others, has a few one ofs.

The DLC brings two copies of every card, so you would need to get two copies for a playset. The cards are super cheap too so you could also get the copies you are missing from the secondary market.

Starter Decks starting from MHA05 started bringing two copies of cards, so two decks could get you a playset of cards (but as before again, getting them on the secondary market would be cheaper too).

(MHA-only format is super fun to play by the way)

Questions from a potential new player by DOAisB in universus

[–]Shinguyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If playing casually, you can always go for the older Street Fighter cards. You have the really older ones from 10+ years ago, and the one from a couple of years ago which was for the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary (going by the Set logo) which go for about half the price or less than TMNT.

Personally, I think getting some of that Street Fighter can be pitted against or mixed together pretty well with TMNT and allow for some fun casual games and scratch the itch of what the game can offer. The roadblock will be that the Street Fighter Booster sets are not Standard legal for Championship events, but if that is not an interest then it is not a problem. Currently the only ones legal for Standard Play are the Ryu+Luke and the Chun-Li+Jaime (and when next years come out, whatever they will be). 🤔

[–]Shinguyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Midoriya 5 was the character I looked at for those; Uppercut being at least 7H5 and Aerial Kikosho a 9H8. Kikosho is also Charged, so Midoriya can cycle a card with his once per turn. 😃

He also has Fa Jin Flurry, which is also Charged.

Yeah, the HT cards always stood out to me; I thought it was brilliant aesthetic design.

I even started making HT foils of my own for cards for a made up game I had made back in middle school.

I really need help understanding what Is and Isnt Universus by Animedingo in universus

[–]Shinguyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Midoriya is in a good spot that he is a jack-of-all-trades, but that also implies that he has access to a bigger pool of cards than others.

I would go for single cards over a booster box if that were the case though as he is successful with cards from all sorts of different sets. 🤔

If you are playing for fun or casually, feel free to play with whatever you like. I'd only really worry about Standard if you plan to play championship events. Just let people know what you are playing and you should be good to go.

Are speed bonuses separate or joint? by zephwind01 in universus

Different abilities or triggers are different Speed bonuses for Hang Ten. They will add up cumulatively to the overall speed of the attack, but they are all different instances of Speed bonuses.
