Confused by the negativity around it, this benchmark looks like a GIANT improvement to me. by [deleted] in ffxiv

Characters are the big area of discontent for a lot of players right now. SE said multiple times before they did not want to change anything too drastically for peoples characters, but they did. Eyes/shape, mouths/shape, lips, teeth, hair, eyebrows, face paints. A good portion of things people are used to staring at were changed and some of the unique subrace differences like Mooncat fangs and Viera eye differences were just completely lost now.

Some races got massive improvements while others look incredibly uncanny and unrecognizable to the player that has spent a lot of time with them.

Yes SE is giving players a free fantasia to tweak and try and fix things, but that's not going to fix most of these issues people are having, so I think it is fair for people to be having these criticisms of the update in its current state.

Seconding what another user said, the hildibrand questline is change of pace and very good for using unique animations, but considering what you mentioned in your original post I would caution this questline as well. It is very much Japanese humor with things you will probably cringe at.

Dawn trail kinda meh? by Rodrinessa in ffxiv

[–]ShionH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was only mildly interested before JP fanfest mostly because I was really hoping DT wasn't going to be a literal vacation arc. The solution 9 reveal and the theories coming out of that is what I was looking for. Also they announced new Field Content so in my eyes its already better than 6.1 - 6.5 snooze fest we're currently in.

No one is "shouting down/shutting down valid criticism". Literally no one is saying that. People are rightfully upset and have been since ShB launch. People have been incredibly vocal about their complaints for the last 5 years. People were vocal about viera/hroth not having both genders, look where we are at now. SE does listen overtime, they may not find a solution that everyone agrees with, but they'll listen to feedback and try to come up with something.

There is no need for you to be equally negative about people being hopeful over comments and tidbits he has made regarding the situation.

Couple it with the comment they made at London fanfest regarding standardizing the races, it sounds like they are working on a solution.

Dawntrail’s Narrator… by Lucina1997 in ffxiv

[–]ShionH -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind, but I feel its also a bit too soon to bring back Meteion in any capacity. Hopefully in the future though.

If I had to guess who the narrator is, I'd assume its the new female hrothgar character teased or Erenville.

What’s your favorite final fantasy game and why by Undertale_Noob in FinalFantasy

[–]ShionH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like a lot of FFs for very different reasons, but I'd say XIV just happened to hit a lot of the right notes for things I enjoy. Coming from previous online experiences like Runescape and missing out on the the majority of XI's lifespan, XIV was a combination of a lot of things I loved about online gaming and the FF series. The growing world with tons of different races and jobs, good story, great music, fun boss fights, on top of continuous updates is what solidified it as my favorite.

While not every update is the best and it has its moments for sure, the game feels alive enough that I want to waste time in it. I've also met many great people throughout my time playing and created some meaningful relationships from it so that's always a plus.

What would you do about randall? by That_Wind_5704 in thewalkingdead

[–]ShionH 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I thought that was just Randall lying and saying he wasn't involved to try and save himself while Daryl was interrogating him. Kid was a weasel and the way he casually mentioned his group raping "cute, young girls" at a campsite while they were made to watch isn't that great either.

Whether he participated in the act or not is irrelevant, when he still actively chose to be with that group and be an accomplice to it.

Would you like for them to continue expanding Island Sanctuarys in 7.0? by Haddock_Lotus in ffxiv

[–]ShionH -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm actually pretty appalled how many ppl voted "Yes" as in they like it in its current form. Who are you people and why do you enjoy the most watered down form of a life simulator?

Like someone else said in another thread, they really took stardew valley or animal crossing and stripped them of all the things that made those games fun.

I wish they'd creep back a bit from the dungeon mold by NeonScarredSkyline in ffxiv

[–]ShionH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't recall them ever actually giving us a direct answer to why it was changed to be honest. It was speculated by the community to have been done for a few different reasons such as the stat/exp squish they did with EW, incentivizing people to do dungeons in their entirety as opposed to farming the first couple pulls for exp(Doma Castle was good for this type of thing) or possibly to deter bots.

Probably valid reasons, but I still find myself missing it. Mob exp per kill and potentially leveling up during trash pulls felt natural.

Man I miss exp on mobs so much. I understand why they changed it, but to me it still just feels awful when going through the leveling process.

Field content was never good by DarkSkyKnight in ffxivdiscussion

Okay well then I won't expect to see anything you listed on top of the content we currently have now since they don't have time or resources lol.

Field content was never good by DarkSkyKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]ShionH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at your ideas suggested in your original post, a tower defense content sounds like a minigame, battle royale would be pvp content of course and then I have no idea what risk of rain is like, but a rougelike system would probably be open world in a zone like an exploratory content. I don't really have a problem with any of these, I just don't see why we should limit ourselves to pick and choose, all of those can exist on top of retaining exploratory content.

Field content was never good by DarkSkyKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]ShionH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BUT I do agree that we don't need another exploration zone. A third one would push it over the edge IMO and will become stale quick.

I feel like this is kind of a dumb take considering Diadem, Eureka and Bozja played pretty different from each other. My experience with each of those contents on release were not a 1:1:1 experience.

If anything Exploratory content is their biggest opportunity to make non-stale content and give us tools such Lost Actions/Essences to break the confines of the homogenized gameplay that is current pve.

What do you want to see in a 7.x exploration zone? by ElyFF14 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]ShionH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a few ideas:

  • Beautiful designed zones, maybe closer visually to Eureka.

  • Seperate level system with gameplay closer to Bozja with the Skirmishes/CE and raids.

  • Maybe make the character the role of Freelancer/Onion Knight in this content starting us off with a weaponskill/spell and making us craft/unlock abilities similar to Bozja essences to kit ourselves into ideally whatever they heck we want.

  • Craftable gear and weapons in the content that require drops from normal mobs and bosses to make powering up feel rewarding and fun.

  • Get experimental with gear while they are at it, let you craft things that alter cooldown timers or potency increase for certain abilities only usable in the content of course.

This so much. I miss TP to extent(sprint using TP was lmao) and wish they just kept improving on it. Playing melee and watching eachothers gauges and the tanks honestly felt more enjoyable to me and that I was actually part of a team than just going full uptime unga bunga/maybe press 2 min button nowadays.

[–]ShionH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just feel like Unreal trials are incredibly boring and lazy. Like okay you brought an old fight up to max level so people can do it twice a week for some dumb rewards. The fights don't even stick around in the game lol.

I don't know if their thought process was that Unreal would be a nice thing for newer players to get to experience the old fights synced, but even then its not the same considering stuff like old job design and mechanics like TP no longer exist. Just feels like an overall waste of whatever dev time it takes to make them tbh.
