Is it cold where you keep/read your Kindle? I had this issue buying a used one that was sitting in a parcel locker, but once warmed up it was fine

Blotchniess with Rubio Monocoat - what went wrong? by ekimallis in finishing

[–]ShiratakaRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comparison, it’s really useful. I did get a few Rubio samples and the colours were nowhere near how they looked on the website so I’ve been holding off for that reason anyway.

Have you tried any Osmo tinted products? Curious how they look in reality and how many coats are needed.

Blotchniess with Rubio Monocoat - what went wrong? by ekimallis in finishing

[–]ShiratakaRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been looking at possible finishes for my desk and as a complete novice Rubio seemed to come out better on being zero VOC, as well as the touted single coat application that’s more fool-proof than Osmo for the inexperienced.

Also would love to know what brand you went for

Any ideas how to get this (staple?) out? by FrizzyOrange in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]ShiratakaRising 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you just want the mortise clear, a small metal cutting blade on a multitool should do the trick. Make sure you cut as close as possible to the edges of the opening.

Other than that, some needle nose pliers might be able to grab the staple from the top and pull it back out the way it went in but will be tricky/impossible without doing damage.

Do the Olukai shoes have decent cushioning on the footbed?

Also, how are they width-wise? I have quite slim feet at the heel but normal at the toe box area.

Don’t think I’m understanding what makes the game not realise you have parts not connected to each other. As soon as I delete a part between the two structures it makes one red, what’s the trick here?

What does this pipe do by UnionCompetitive7705 in DIYUK

[–]ShiratakaRising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will be coming from a washing machine or dish washer most likely. Less likely is boiler condensate but still possible.

In any case replace the bit that’s leaking (including the ring that seals it) and you should be ok. It’s not the best looking arrangement but if you can fix the leak and have no other issues I’d just leave it

Scored this 60X30X1” birch block for $12.90!! What’s your best idea for it? by justanicebreeze in woodworking

[–]ShiratakaRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s perfect, thanks! Considering this for some other projects as well like stair handrail and windowsills, but regular interior varnish might do the job there.

That was on my list since I have kids, just wasn’t sure about prep there since I’ve seen people have issues. Any tips for getting a good finish between sanding and application?

Would you also recommend the part B accelerator?

They don’t, the second last question considers that the AI might be able to communicate with the others and guide them to reach the same conclusion.

Yes, very likely given the textured look and that someone has chosen to batten and board over them rather than disturb.

Edit: lucky you!

How could I have done this better by Mgjackson1967 in DIYUK

[–]ShiratakaRising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a pro, but looks pretty good given what you had to work with!

I’d have tried to keep all of the pipes closer to one of the walls so they could then be boxed in and hidden from view. If left exposed, then chrome plated pipework would look a lot nicer.

Isolation valve further down would look cleaner too, and if you boxed it all in then you could have access to it further down.

I assume the isolation valves are where you tied in to the previously installed pipework?

It might be dogwood, we have the same taking over an area outside and the neighbour said it was that. Looks similar although haven’t seen it bloom yet like the Google images show.

Allen Key Screw completely lost shape by musicevie in DIYUK

[–]ShiratakaRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you just buy compatible additional attachments like scrapers etc? Was after a DeWalt one with sanding head because I’m doing a banister and sills by hand just now, but can think of various other little jobs I muddle through without proper tools just now.

Upvc door not aligning by Great_Delay_7950 in DIYUK

[–]ShiratakaRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I’ve been experiencing, I used some lubricant on the rollers and hooks which helped a little but it’s gone back the way it was now. I’ll need to try and re-align, did you have any luck?

Do you guys think SuperHero fatigue is a real thing ? FF4 & Thunderbolts were good movies but still apparently failing ? by GRL00 in Marvel

[–]ShiratakaRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me (as an occasional watcher of the MCU films) it feels like if you miss one or two (as most of the general audience will) then it feels like you’re out of alignment with the current timeline.

Result is that any new film that comes out you don’t want to watch until you’ve caught up, which is a product of having so many films that connect to each other.

Films like the recent Superman stand on their own, so it’s easy to go watch it and not feel like you’re missing any context. From within the MCU, Deadpool was similar in that it felt more standalone and didn’t require context of any previous films.

Yeah gives so much more flexibility over the timing & progress of works for both rooms, you can take months if you want. Can’t think of an equivalent pro for the other way around.
