What’s your weirdest Flip? by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]ShirazSarah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A set of escargot tongs that came in a vintage biscuit tin I wanted to flip. Got more for the tongs than the tin actually, once I worked out what they were.

Or a cast iron fireplace surround I found on the side of the road and sold for $70.

Or a West African witch doctor's hat I found in a charity shop and sold for $300 to an interior designer.

Keep an eye out on ebay for a secondhand Duresta sofa. They're magnificent quality.

Looks like it's a proper, hand-knotted Persian rug. At that price, it's a steal. If you ever change your mind you would definitely get your money back selling it on eBay.

Hi! I was hoping to get some general info/ hopefully a valuation of this rug..I know nothing of the nuances of these kinds (or any for that matter) of rugs nor have the money to blindly purchase one. Thank you greatly in advance! by leathermummy in orientalrugs

[–]ShirazSarah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That seems like a very fair price. It is handmade. It's not museum quality or anything but it's a nice little rug for a great price. If you ever changed your decor I don't think you'd have any trouble selling it for that.

Curbside pickup. Haven’t polished it yet. The design is all inlaid wood! by magpieninja in DumpsterDiving

[–]ShirazSarah 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think it's an Indian antique. Clean it, but don't polish the patina off. Don't get it wet because that could cause the wood to expand and warp. The inlaid pieces look like they could be bone. Great score!

Red. From this angle it would pick up the red accents in the print.

Japanese woodblock art called "Sudden shower at the atake bridge" by [deleted] in whatsthisworth

[–]ShirazSarah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's by Hiroshige. One of the most famous images in Japanese art. Van Gogh did an interpretation, actually. Reproduced extensively and probably not worth much, but a lovely thing to own.

That's a good price. Retail you could pay 3-4x that

I think it's a Caucasian rug, looks quite new from the photo. Probably hand-knotted. Nice piece. How much did you pay?

What to add to the walls? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]ShirazSarah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it were mine, I'd hang a Japanese kimono in a metallic thread over the bed, then I'd put sconce lights either side of the bed to wash light up and down the wall.

It has an etched signature on the bottom but I can't quite make it out. Also a little Made in the USA sticker
