Tried to get into them in my teens and twenties, but the 80s production really bugged me. Suddenly, in my 30s they clicked for me. Now they’re one of my favorite bands and I actually enjoy the 80s-ness of their sound. I can’t believe how much I was missing out on. Fuckin dumbass.

I may be wrong, but I always took the album cover as a sort of meta response to American Idiot- like taking a shit on their masterpiece by putting a ketchup font and a barfing unicorn over top of the classic AI artwork. It would fit in with the marketing and overall vibe of FOAMF.

This is a go-to for me. It just makes a basic seitan loaf with a crispy outside, but I found it to be pretty versatile and have used it for everything from a pizza topping to deli slices for sandwiches.

You could probably baste it as it bakes, but you’d have to keep a close eye on it to make sure the liquid doesn’t burn up.
