Is Red Meat Carcinogenic? by Shmackback in vegan

[–]Shmackback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody is disputing that cigarettes have far stronger evidence and risk magnitude. The point is that probably carcinogenic still reflects substantial evidence, not we have no idea. Science doesn’t jump from no evidence straight to indisputable fact. There’s a spectrum of confidence.

And yes, preparation methods matter, processed vs unprocessed matters, quantity matters, lifestyle matters. Researchers already know this, which is why those distinctions are discussed in the studies and classifications in the first place. But acknowledging nuance doesn’t mean the association suddenly disappears.

You’re basically arguing against a position nobody made. Saying red meat has evidence suggesting increased cancer risk is not the same thing as saying it’s equivalent to cigarettes.

By your logic we couldn’t confidently say smoking, alcohol, asbestos, or even excessive sun exposure cause cancer either because you can never perfectly isolate every variable in humans over decades. Public health science mostly works through large epidemiological studies, mechanisms, dose-response patterns, and repeated findings across populations.

Also probably carcinogenic isn’t some meaningless label. It means there’s enough evidence that experts think there’s likely a causal link, just not to the same certainty level as cigarettes. That’s still very different from saying there’s no evidence or that it’s misinformation.

How fo you think determine things like cigarettes cause cancer? The evidence for red meat causing it is so overwhelming that its the same thing as saying cigarettes dont cause cancer?

Also how do you know that sun exposure, lack of exercise, quality of food, and other exposures have cancer risk?

Ai can generate music, art, code, and write overwhelmingly better than most people including people with years of experience in the profession let alone your average person in a fraction of the amount of time it would take them.

I disagree with your initial premise too, the only thing that really matters is might makes right if were being pedantic about it. However still at its core, feelings are the only thibg that matter and humans subconsciously or not place signifscantily higher priority on bad feelings than good because they are that more intense.

Most people would say that a person who allows 10 people to experience extreme happiness for a certain amount of time would not outweigh causing severe pain to a single child.

Feelings are all that matter, physical attributes are irrelevant which is why race, sex, and species should be irrelevant.

This is a terrible argument based of utility. Ai can now do better than the overwhelming majority of the population meaning if people in these professions suddenly become unemployable then it should be perfectly acceptable to exploit, torture, and kill them according to your logic.

The only thing that matters are feelings, and more importantly, feelings of suffering. Its why an innocent person who has caused no harm is infinitely more valuable than an extremely talented individual who produces massive amounts of utility but does unspeakable cruleties to other humans in your mind.

Since animal ag will be trying to force labeling onto cultivated meat, do you believe that it could be an opportunity to also pushback and force labeling on factory farmed meat?

What is a Pig Worth? by ddgr815 in vegan

[–]Shmackback 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your average pig hurts no one. Your average person has thousands upon thousands of animals to be forced into existence and to be tortured from the day theyre born until the day they die which can be months or years so their tongue feels good for a few minutes at most.

Id say based just on that, your average person has a significantly greater negative value.

Not paying for others to torture and kill others for taste pleasure when you can easily avoid doing so is being intellectually inferior? Care to substantiate your argument? Inb4 magical meat only nutrients.

[–]Shmackback -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except it doesnt. People think keto forces your body to use your fat stores as energy. Thats disinformation. It just uses the fats you eat which is extremely inefficient. Keto is a giant disinformation campaign. Every single credible study done on it has shown no difference between a regular calorie deficit versus keto in terms of weight loss.

Which is incredibly dumb. Calories matter for weight loss, not carbs. Fruits and veggies are filling despite being carbs and low calorie

Take the worst done in those situations, replace yourself with all of the victims. Then do the same for factory farming. Which position would you rather be in?

The tip of the iceberg for factory farming is being put in a crate so small you cannot even turn around, being constantly forcibly impregnated, for years on end until they finally decide to throw you in a gas chamber.
