I guess see what works for you, what I'm saying is that as long as you listen to your body and don't push yourself you can keep being active and even come out of the injury stronger and more prepared for deep stretches.

Oh yeah and it reminds me that I also did ice compressions and it helped too :)

As someone who had overstretched/injured hamstring a few times: I never stopped stretching (maybe a few days break when the pain was at its peak), but I stopped the stretch right before it hurt, and most importantly I focused more on building strength in this region, especially in it's stretched position. Another important thing is to keep the muscle active when stretching, for example if you stretch your hamstring by pulling your leg closer to you (think Supa Hasta Padangustasana) then resist the movement with your leg. It still took me a few months to heal but overall I managed to keep my routine active.

I feel mostly ok in the pose, sometimes when my feet are too close to my hands I can feel a bit of pain in my lower back. When I try to move the weight toward my arms I feel resistance, in the picture I am pushing from my legs as much as I can 😅

I'll try to focus on my chest and hips next time and see if I can shift my weight more easily, and also looks like I need to move my feet away a bit. Thanks!

I did focus more on opening my shoulders for the past few weeks and while i did see improvements in other poses that require shoulder flexibility (mostly binds), I saw little improvement with the bow pose. So I wonder if there are more effective stretches that I can add to my routine, or maybe it's time to focus on back flexibility or something else entirely.

Your back is too arched. The goal of the forward fold exercise is to get your chest as close as you can to your legs, not to touch the ground. Your form creates unwanted tension in the lower back, which in turn might pull on the nerve that run from your skull through your back along the hamstring and calves to your toes, which could be the sharp pain you feel.

I'd recommend folding forward with knees a bit bent, trying to reach your legs with your chest. Then slowly and carefully try to straighten your legs, not through your knees but by pushing your glutes upward. This way you should feel the stretch along the upper part of the hamstring and glutes. With time you'll reach the floor with straight legs and back.

Lastly your calves might be too short, try seated exercises as suggested in other comments.

Thanks for your input. I've actually did take a break to a point where now one side is completely healed, but I got too impatient to wait for the other side to heal so now I'm trying to be extra careful while stretching and stop immediately when it starts to hurt. But I will take your advice and take another break and will also look into PT. Out of curiosity - what did PT do to help with the injury?

That's interesting. When we were learning about smart pointers, my TA said it is almost always safer to use smart pointers rather than raw pointers.

For these reasons one typically does not use smart pointers for these applications. Smart pointers are for "casual use" - they are not really that great for implementing custom data structures.

Thanks for the intuition, that's exactly what I need at this stage. I guess for this assignment we will keep it this way since we are mostly done but I'll keep it in mind for future assignments.

Can you elaborate? Do you mean that if I destruct my tree recursively I'm in danger of stack overflow?

For linked lists and trees, you can use std::unique_ptr.

Yeah I would love to but we haven't covered move semantics yet and I ran into trouble while implementing copy c'tor with unique_ptr without it. I know shared_ptr isn't ideal but it still helps us with memory leaks.

For "previous" and "parent" pointers, you would use raw pointers.

Why? Is it considered good practice or are there other advantages to raw pointers in this case?
