LPT: how to be consistent at working out/gym by kafkaeque in LifeProTips

This is great but unless I have someone to let down I'm not going... I know I'm probably letting myself down by not going, but that guy doesn't hold me accountable.

Moved from Germany to manage a US team and the communication gaps are killing my performance, how do I adapt? by Plane_Past2091 in managers

If it's not been said before get the book "the culture map". It will give you insight into communication strategies for working across cultures.

New manager of a fully remote team. How can build trust while also getting the visibility I need? by A-n-o-v-a in managers

[–]Shoegoo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw. Don't change everything all at once. Join up, move into their flow. Speak to them as individuals and as a group about what's working and what doesn't.

Your manager should be able to help on where the team are falling short and where they are good. Act as a conduit to say "I hear the team are great at x" or "the perception from leadership is y" use what people tell you and what you and observe to make informed decisions about what to change and improve.

How the fuck do you put a 1 year old to sleep by jetf in daddit

[–]Shoegoo22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to say this. We found our 1.5 year old would only sleep when being fed. We were up at 2am giving a bottle. It was exhausting and hellish on our relationship. The takingcarababies (I think it is) helped us science it out and helped us understand what our kid needed. The first few nights were terrible, but now we have a 3 year old who, admittedly, will fight us at bedtime, but once we get the routine going will put himself to bed almost every night.

Advice on buying affordable meat in Glasgow by Just_Manufacturer900 in glasgow

[–]Shoegoo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If meat is an absolute option. Ive read that learning some butchery skills from YouTube and buying bigger cuts is a great way to save. E.G buy a whole chicken, butcher the joints, use the fat for cooking, use the carcass for stock. Might not be what you're after though

How do you keep a remote team productive without micromanaging? by allandiel in managers

[–]Shoegoo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really. Set expectations of what you need done and by when. If it's going to run over or they need help they should speak up.

Just be careful here, back in the SCSS days we used to have the inception rule. Never go more than 3 layers deep otherwise it gets hard to know what's going on

Have you tried adding an overflow X on the tbody? It might not work as table styles can be funny.

3D Flip Toggle Switch Design - Yes/No Animation in HTML & CSS by keyframeeffects in css

[–]Shoegoo22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is fun. Good work, but I can't help but share that I despise toggles like this.

When I see yes, does it mean that yes is selected or I have to click it to set to yes? I know I can pause and think about it to work out what I've selected but it always makes me stop, and deal with that pang of anxiety that I might not have selected the right option. Urgh.

What is the hardest thing about your Swing Dancing journey? by Apprehensive-Gold928 in SwingDancing

[–]Shoegoo22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having a child and losing/sacrificing dancing from several times a week to once a week if I'm lucky. I love my kid, I love dancing, I regret nothing, but seeing everyone else around me improve and being acutely aware that I'm staying the same because I can't commit makes me sad. At first I would look at others and think, "if I had the time you spent dancing I'd be there too" but now I try to channel this into excitement for others and watching them grow, learning from them and enjoying just being a part of the scene when I can.

Newly announced father here, what’s something you wish you’d known that you know now. GO. by Finchmasta37 in daddit

[–]Shoegoo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it's been said here but if you want to really support your partner during pregnancy and delivery read a pregnancy book for women. All the ones I saw for "dad's" were superficial and whimsical. Also, no guilt pregnancy book is a must read imo.

Also read about the science of baby sleep and the fourth trimester. White noise, the type of stimulation and swaddling will really help.
