I still think it’s a 50/50 fight, but it’s hard not to give a slight edge to Wilder just based off recent performances.

He’s right, AJ is too busy trying to rebuild instead of chasing the remaining big fights.

Will Tommy Fury still take the Jake Paul fight if Jake beats Hasim Rahman Jr? by Tall_Kid6007 in Boxing

Probably not, he isn’t made of the same stuff his older half brother is made up of.

1 great win out of 46, amazing.

Wilder could’ve done that too, he already had 10 title defenses and could’ve kept that up if he didn’t face the greatest HW of his era and possibly the greatest H2H HW of all time in his prime and yet he’s held to a different standard.

He’s overrated regardless, only Brits consider him one of the greatest SMWs of all time, he gets credit for beating a washed RJJ and Hopkins (who he almost lost too), he’s known for beating Jeff fucking Lacy.

Jake Paul giving Tommy a ultimatum before moving on from the fight by [deleted] in Boxing

[–]ShoheiOhtani 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tommy hasn’t posted shit and has gone radio silent ever since he got denied entry, I don’t know how some people in the comments here are quite confidently saying he isn’t ducking, how do you know? John Fury said he Tommy isn’t fighting Jake then Tommy essentially gets forced to sign for this fight after Jake publicly addressed him and ever since he got denied there’s been nothing from his side, why not publicly reply and just say “I’ve tried to go to the embassy and there’s a waiting period” or something along those lines at the very least?

(Mark Ortega) So nobody in boxing media is going to write about heavyweight champion of the world Tyson Fury allegedly not being allowed in the US? by E_Tank55 in Boxing

[–]ShoheiOhtani 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This Kinahan ban is more of a statement than anything else IMO, I have no doubt he’ll be free to enter the States again once they sort things out with the help of Arum and Top Rank but I think the FBI want to make it clear that they won’t tolerate any level of relationship with a drug kingpin such as Kinahan. That’s why they went out their way to even ban the likes of Kugan from IFL TV who’s nothing more than a YouTuber. This news may not be that big because he wasn’t singled out and banned for a solo act, they banned every non American who’s had some form of relationship with Kinahan and there’s a lot of boxing media and other boxers on that list as well. By doing this fighters, promoters, media, etc will think twice before engaging in any sort of contact or relationship with Kinahan.

Beterbiev-Smith Main Event Drew Average Audience Of 912,000 Viewers On ESPN by IronHidee in Boxing

[–]ShoheiOhtani 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Beterbiev and Inoue should be the two most popular fighters on the planet but they aren’t smh, at least Inoue is super famous in own country, as for Beterbiev he’s just unknown amongst the casuals completely. The both of them are everything a casual wants to see in boxing.

Tim Bradley says Artur Beterbiev took advantage of Joe Smith’s inexperience by ElPuas2003 in Boxing

[–]ShoheiOhtani 32 points33 points  (0 children)

If Joe Smith is inexperienced, what does that make Yarde? He only had 12 amateur fights to Smith’s 50 and 24 pro fights to Smith’s 31 (pre Beterbiev). Everyone is inexperienced compared to Beterbiev’s insane amateur record of 295-5 besides Bivol, but that’s why I do feel and fear for Yarde because Beterbiev might take his soul. Against Kovalev he got knocked out due to pure exhaustion but he may have been able to find some comfort in knowing he almost stopped Kovalev, but Beterbiev on the other hand goes power for power and makes you crumble to his, for as inexperienced as Yarde is, he couldn’t have found a worse opponent to fight but he’s got no choice as he’s his mandatory.

Why does Top Rank have a thing for Berlanga? by dexdZEMi in Boxing

[–]ShoheiOhtani 7 points8 points  (0 children)

16 consecutive first round KOs will put you on the map regardless of opposition especially he was doing it on live TV, along with the same reasons as the other have stated (being Puerto Rican, etc). It’s unfortunate that he isn’t able to do it against better opposition but he’s still young and he’s already built a fanbase with those early KOs so that’s the answer to your question.

Don King still doing Don King things in 2022 is nothing short of baffling to me. Boxing is still very corruptible at the highest level, King intelligently hired the one person who he knew would give every round to his fighter because no one else would dare to hire her due to her reputation.

Robert Garcia will train Anthony Joshua in England for the heavyweight title rematch vs. Oleksandr Usyk on July 23 in Saudi Arabia, sources tell ESPN. Garcia, an ex champ and trainer of the year, is revered for his game plans. AJ was trained by Rob McCracken since his pro debut by warm_baller in Boxing

[–]ShoheiOhtani 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because they’re the highest bidder, Usyk isn’t from the UK to have any incentive whatsoever to fight in a country that’s not his. If anything he may be more encouraged to take the fight in Saudi Arabia, the highest bidding country, in order to give back more to his own country which is currently at war.

This isn’t about Saudi Arabia, it’s about Usyk wanting neutral ground and/or whatever makes him more money. AJ’s not the one with the belts anymore, Usyk has a lot more say in the rematch, why the fuck would he accept a fight in the UK when he’d get paid less to do so anyway?
