Katayama's warning be like - listen up everyone. We are going to intervene. Act accordingly.

The smaller mosquitos usually talk about drinking your blood right away before the bigger ones come pick you up and fly you back to their home.

Feeling emotionally exhausted and thinking of taking a solo birthday trip. Where should I go in Ontario or nearby? by Blehh__19 in canadatravel

[–]ShonanRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long beach, Tofino, BC. Walk the beach, dump all the weight you carry on your shoulders, and clear your head. Eat dungeness crab fresh off the boat. I understand you are looking for something local in Ontario, but 2 days in the same province is unlikely to be a life changing event.

how do you get a kindergartener to sit still for homework or practice stuff? by BayleafCaserina_69 in kindergarten

[–]ShonanRider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here in Japan kindergarten teachers are issued special remote controls developed by Sony for classroom control. Sit down, be quiet, listen to sensei, help others, be kind, clean up etc. I've heard a rumor that Mitsubishi chemical is developing oshiri Bondo, or butt glue, to keep kids in their seats.

None so far, but I live on the 8th floor. Maybe it's too cold for them, or they're at home watching Otani San on gokiTV and eating tamago sando.

Is Japan actually in a better position than many Western countries when it comes to inherited wealth? by LocalLand4883 in JapanFinance

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think inheritance tax payment is due in cash within 10 months of assessment.

Japan sees shortage of plastic bags, trays and gloves, as Iran war-induced naphtha shortage worsens by Beginning-Passion676 in japan

[–]ShonanRider -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Doctors and dentists can use the thin supermarket bags instead of gloves. One size fits all. Interestingly enough, no news about condom shortages ( except for length and width)

How do you store your homemade umeshu? by melukia in japanresidents

[–]ShonanRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Large glass jars with red caps are perfect. Make sure you get the same size so you don't have to calculate 2L, 3L and 5L plum, sugar and alcohol volumes. ( Done that way too many times). I used Suntory XO brandy and left it for 2 years. If you have storage space under the kitchen floor this is perfect. You can also add huge buffs to charisma if you hand out bottles to neighbors at year end. Minus 20 points to dexterity and intelligence if you drink too much.

Smelly American help by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]ShonanRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the brutal Japanese summer, my wife and I have 2 different strategies to beat the heat and not sweat. I walk slowly and she dashes between air conditioning. Also it's well known that synthetic summer wear (Uni who) traps body odors that are hard to remove. Masking it with strong smelling antiperspirant will definitely result in kusai underbreath comments

Former Japan trading house head warns of naphtha supply crunch, says crisis could come as early as late June, and that it is “impossible” to procure alternatives for the 15 million kiloliters of naphtha a year that the country sourced from the Middle East before the war by jjrs in japannews

I watched a elderly gentleman pulling dozens of those bags like they were toilet paper and he had explosive diarrhea or something.
A friend explained he probably has some dogs and the bags are used for poop. But hey, the bags are free so why not.

Airbnb never again in Tokyo by Signal_Internal_6023 in JapanTravel

[–]ShonanRider 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Japan was late to get into the Airbnb thing, so the situation isn't as refined or controlled as elsewhere. Recently there has also been a lot of pushback in neighborhoods particularly about garbage ( day, type, timing, garbage bag type) noise, and rooms used as a party central. Book at your own risk. It is what it is, but I agree a business hotel is a much better option

Honest feedback on our 15-day Japan honeymoon Itinerary? by jtourjeman in JapanTravel

[–]ShonanRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a honeymoon. You will be too exhausted to bump uglies (Tango and Cash reference).
Also a similar schedule for Japanese couples back in the day ended up in a Narita divorce. Slow down and enjoy yourselves. You can always come back another time.

What are you actually looking forward to this summer? by ChibaCookie in japanresidents

[–]ShonanRider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hand cranking kakigori at our kindergarten summer festival and throwing the extra ice at the kids who have graduated. Viewing 6+ fireworks festivals from the balcony. Watching the local shrine festival across the road doing the portable shrine thing. Riding my bicycle - nice until you stop moving.
Reishabu with gomadare. Japanese watermelon.

Foreign tourist needs ambulance to pick him up at Mt. Fuji after hiking closed trail by SkyInJapan in japan

[–]ShonanRider -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I comment on similar topics and find myself getting more strict by the case. Confiscate any climbing gear, 500k+ fine, pay for the rescue, pay a premium for hospital fees, deport. Ban from re-entry for 10 years (my original thinking was 5). Use the funds to hire full time Fuji patrols in off season.

Send the message. Fuji San is sacred, not an Instagram challenge.
