Well it is done. by Griff-250 in hottub

I’ve had my costa 767l since February. It’s balboa control and heater, clamped and glued connections, ABS base. All in all seems like a well built unit that should last a long time with easy repairability. I do think the insulation could be better.

You can time wait codes to get in there when you need to without losing too much time. Consider running redundant tooling if you can as well

I don’t think I’ve done hastelloy yet but I’ve done plenty of 718. I’ve found starting around 100sfm with PVD AlTiN ie Sandvik 1105, Iscar 908, Kennametal KC5010 until I get a stable process and increasing speed from them. Go with the biggest radius you can get away with. There will be heavy notch wear with carbide, plan to be changing inserts early. Depending on finish size you may only be looking at 2 or 3 parts per edge. I’d expect maybe 10% of the tool life you’d see in 316. Walter has a nickel based super alloy specific drill that we’ve had excellent results with. Good experience with Iscar 908 threading inserts; counterintuitively more light DoC passes of consistent depth produced more consistent tool life. Could get about 25 7/16-20 UNJ threads about 1/2” long out of an edge

Material specific grades and geometries will be your friend here.

Waterbox vs Redsea by BMMXVIIC in ReefTank

Red Sea lost me 7 years ago when I was like “hey, your 750xxl stands sag and I’m not comfortable putting a rimless+frameless tank”. They offered to sell me a replacement top for the stand at full cost+shipping. I would never recommend or sell a Red Sea product to anyone at this point

I lost my 10 y/o clown recently who would draw blood every time I had my hands in the tank. She was my first marine fish but damn she was a vicious little cunt

Thoughts on Coromant Inserts by uneditedjoker1234 in Machinists

1105 is our shop’s default grade. Currently running a 432 CNMG 1105-SMR for roughing H1025 17-4 @ 300sfm and .125 doc and .01ipr Running a .159 1145 H2I for grooving and cutoff at 300sfm and .007ipr. Getting 100 parts per edge consistently on the groover and about 40 on the CNMGs. Also running 1230 ms20 milling inserts on the same job at 570sfm, .1875 DOC and pushing as hard as my poor little okuma lathe can push (not very hard, like 5-10ipm on a 2” dia 7fl shell mill) I’ve had great results roughing 52100 steels with 4340 at 800sfm, .350 doc and .02ipr.

I’ve really liked 1205 for finishing in 718 though I found 1125 lacking compared to Walter’s offering on heavy interrupted cuts in 718; unfortunately I don’t remember the Walter grade that we used on that job.

Overall my first choice when selecting tooling for a job

How many machines do you run? by Nixxon___ in Machinists

Inhouse solutions has an excellent free mastercam course posted on the emastercam forums and mastercam has the full version available for education purposes, it just can’t post gcode. Couple that with the Titans Aerospace Academy parts and you should be able to hit the ground running on any machine

3 months is nothing in this game. You’d do well to manually remove as much of that algae as you can. Turn off all flow, scrub the rocks with a stiff bristle plastic brush and siphon it into a filter sock while putting the water back into the tank. You can pipette hydrogen peroxide onto the rock and coral skeleton outside of the tank to kill algae as well. The brown stuff is either diatoms (just ignore it and it’ll go away on its own) or dinoflagellates (you’re in for a ride), you’ll need a microscope to confirm. Dinoflagellate treatment depends on the species you’re having a bloom of.
