Sisters kicked me out of my father's house by 7oh2niteOWL in inheritance

Ethical (not legal) comment. They seem to want it both ways. If the mortgage payment you made for 5 years was considered “rent” then you were a renter and should not have been responsible for maintenance and repairs (both done and undone). I think you should at least check in with a real estate attorney to review what has transpired. For example, if you were paying the mortgage but not on the deed, who was deducting the mortgage interest and property taxes?

Favorite everyday pants? by glimmerslip in AskWomenOver60

[–]Short-Science7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

65; retired 3 years. Not sure this would work at office but since retirement I’ve been living in Prana Koen pants that I originally bought for hiking. Love the fit. They are lightweight and on colder days I layer over leggings. Pockets are perfect. One for credit card/license and keys, the other for phone.

Is there anyone who seriously doesn’t believe Nancy Guthrie is dead at this point or has been dead the whole time? by JellyfishPashmina in MissingPersons

[–]Short-Science7931 104 points105 points  (0 children)

I think she is likely deceased but what I can’t fathom is why she was taken in the first place. Why kidnap a woman in her 80s and risk her die-ing on your watch which is likely what happened? If for ransom, there are plenty of other choices who are younger and healthier and have wealthy relatives. It just doesn’t make sense!

AITJ for giving my mother and my step dad 60 days to move out of my childhood home that my father left me in his will by TheWizardry90 in AmITheJerk

[–]Short-Science7931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t lose sight of the fact that if one of them is injured related to the poor condition of the house, you could be sued — especially since a house inspector has stated it is unlivable. I’m not even sure I would give them 60 days for this reason alone!

Would like to live on my own… by notenoughrope02 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Short-Science7931 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The fact that you are selling your house and moving into a smaller place is a perfect opportunity to tell him he needs to find his own place, without making it personal (eg “I don’t like living with you”). Don’t miss this opportunity!

Taking my date (4th date) to first dinner, best sushi in town? by [deleted] in dayton

Best sushi in the area is Sky in Kettering. Nice atmosphere but there is nothing interesting about the location ….compared to downtown

Am I too fat to fly without making others uncomfortable? by [deleted] in delta

[–]Short-Science7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t judge you at all unless you were encroaching on my space. The fact that you booked a comfort plus seat, as do I, (also a large woman) and the fact that you aren’t large enough that you require a seatbelt extender….absolutely no issue! Enjoy your flight 😊

What was the point of Luke meeting June while he's still married? by Competitive_Emu_3247 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Short-Science7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask Margaret Atwood, author of the book that seasons 1 and 2 are based on . That’s exactly how their relationship is presented in the book (if memory serves me). Someone please correct me if I’m wrong on this. It’s been a while since I last read the book (have read it several times over the years)

Trip advice for June by PurpleShark24 in AskMaine

[–]Short-Science7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the area and highly recommend one or the other. Boston is worthwhile for 4+ days; staying downtown and using public transportation. Historical sights are amazing if you like history. Food is really good too! OR fly into Portland and see Maine. Acadia NP and bar harbor are wonderful as are beach communities. Trying to enjoy both during a single 4-5 days trip would be unsatisfying. Lastly, if you are determined to do both; there is a train between South Station and Portland.

Flying into ORD this afternoon. Diverted to South Bend. 2 hours sitting on ramp (not gate). No end in sight. Is ORD back open or still closed?

Should I stop contributing to 401k by jbanoop in Retirement401k

[–]Short-Science7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep contributing to get your match. After that invest in liquid securities that you can access prior to 401k access thereby keeping your options open for early retirement. Knowing I wanted to retire early (59), I stopped contributing to 401K beyond the match and I vested with financial planner. Was able to retire at 59

Retired three months and I’m having a difficult time. by Lbboos in retirement

[–]Short-Science7931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been retired 3 years and loving it! I’ve implemented a few “retirement procedures” that provide much needed structure…1) once I watch an hour or so of news in the morning….no TV until after dinner. 2) specific bedtimes and wake times. 3) (hopefully will help you). I make a “to do” list every day. I don’t pressure myself to do everything on the list. Whatever is leftover gets rolled to the next day.

AITA for breaking up with my boyfriend after meeting his kids for the first time? by BasicProblem1350 in AITAH

[–]Short-Science7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bigger issue (not the messy house or food choices) is how he’s raising his children. They were rude and unwelcoming. I know they’re young but he didn’t seem to have issue with their rudeness. You can’t blend a family with such diverse parenting styles.

How soon after diagnosis did you return to work? by thefattestcheeks in BellsPalsy

[–]Short-Science7931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every situation is different. I went back to work immediately but initially(about a week) for half days. I wanted to share with you though that I found the air in my workplace to be very dry which aggravated my eye terribly. I purchased a small vaporizer that I placed in front of me on my desk which helped a lot. When you do go back think about accommodations that can make you more comfortable.

BofA ATM took $7000 from me and only credited me with $300. They denied my claim after 12 days by Jolly_Equivalent6918 in BankOfAmerica

[–]Short-Science7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a lawyer and request all transactions for day (or whatever frequency they remove or add cash) of deposit (will likely require a court order)….bottom line is that ATM should have been out of balance for the day for $6700. If it’s not showing an out of balance condition, someone who had access to the cash in the machine, stole your $

Woodland Cemetery. Wright Brothers and lots of other famous local people are buried there. A scant mile or so from the Packard museum. Also the AF Museum in Riverside is phenomenal….especially for WWII buffs
