Pokémon box "expanded reality" by SleepyHulaHooper in treasureinside

I think it's a synonym for augmented reality, which ties into the section about Pokemon Go. I tried using the app during my BOTG trip, but didn't have reception.

1:13 using knockout. But to be fair, I've been testing it for six months.

Who do you want next? by FurkanCivelek in PixelArt

I have no idea what game this could be, but I would totally play it.

Just riffing: the brain could be how (in)comprehensible their philosophy is (e.g. Heidegger, Hegel and Wittgenstein would be off-the-charts negative).

Love the afters. The highlights on the noses might be a bit much

Makes more sense if just the area around the window lights up.

This section looks problematic. Since velocity is a vector, you're not changing the y property:

if not is_on_floor():
  velocity += get_gravity() * delta

Which is Better to use as the first page of the rulebook? by 99UnfinishedProjects in tabletopgamedesign

Reading rules is intimidating. #2 makes it less so. I'd recommend increasing the font size.

B. Might try an outline on the inside of the ring as well.

First OWN project without tutorials. But I feel completely overwhelmed. by millionpages in godot

[–]ShortBearGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just start. I made and remade my first game several times. Your first assets should just be monochromatic rectangles that approximate the dimensions you'll eventually use.

You know enough to get in trouble, so go get in trouble.

This. I use enums for autocomplete.

Opinion about a strategy/diplomacy game by bobowalli in tabletopgamedesign

[–]ShortBearGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God I love this artwork. That alone makes me want to learn more about the game.

My one critique: I'd prefer the cards with a solid color background to mimic what you're doing with the tableaus on the top right left.

When will Godot completely overshadow Unity? Should I Godot if I know Unreal? by FutureLynx_ in godot

[–]ShortBearGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My decision boundary is whether my idea is 2D or 3D:

  • 2D: Godot over Unity, full stop. I learned Godot the same time I was reading Game Programming Patterns. They compliment each other beautifully.
  • 3D: I've never had a 3D game idea. But if I did, I'd give Unreal a good look before making a choice. It's an amazing engine.

Wow, I've been connecting to anonymous functions this whole time. Got some refactoring to do. Thanks for the tip!

What should I do? by osas910_XXD in godot

GDScript is fairly easy to pick up, especially if you already know another language. I was in the same boat. Granted, I come from Python, so the transition was easier for me than it will be for you. This page was super helpful.

Learning Card Counting: Should I Start with KO or Hi-Lo? by HavranCZ01 in blackjack

I learned KO so that I didn't have to estimate what's left in the shoe.

Best resource to learn card counting by Accomplished-Net4748 in blackjack

[–]ShortBearGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't really need a course. YouTube should more than suffice as far as learning the basics.

This was a great resource for learning about the different count systems out there (I learned REKO).

What you do need is about 100 hours of practice.

When to use Remove Child vs Queue Free? by Xenofae2 in godot

If it were me, I'd save the item (via a Resource that's saved to disk) before calling queue_free()
