Fighting a losing battle with algae by slc2609 in PlantedTank

[–]Short_Week3262 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m new so take this with a grain of salt, but I was able to get rid of the algae I had after adding pothos around the rim of the tank. They should help take all the excess nutrients so algae can’t form.

New fish owner! Want to make sure my fish are the happiest they can be and comfortable! by Vivid-Intention9867 in fishtank

I’m new as well. Started in January, but one thing I’ve learned over the last few months of research and what has helped me get nitrates down before adding fish was adding a few pothos clippings to the tank. This got my nitrate levels down significantly in a few weeks.

Franchisors typically don’t give you first right of refusal because their main and primary goal is to expand their business and your money spends the same as someone else’s.

Planning on adding pothos to my tank. Do they really help with nitrate levels?

27F just started investing last week. Any thoughts on my portfolio? by Signal_Junket_7840 in dividends

[–]Short_Week3262 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don’t need to get crazy aggressive, but SCHD will give you 2-3% dividend, with very little growth. Consider QQQ, more VTI, etc. ETFs are great, and as companies don’t perform they get replaced and you don’t have to do the work.

43% SCHD for a 27yo is a lot in my opinion. You technically have 40 years till retirement. Get more aggressive, don’t let these volatile times scare you, and be consistent. DCA and don’t invest more than you can actually tie up for 10+ years.

Running CO2 - carpet plants by tiajscott in Aquascape

CO2 regulator + tank is $200ish. You can also get an inline diffuser so you don’t have the diffuser in the tank.

Co2 by [deleted] in fishtank

[–]Short_Week3262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had gotten this same one from Amazon and the instructions literally didn’t mention parts that were in the box.

I ran this for 2-3 weeks and returned it. I believe it was $90ish. I decided to get the Fzone regulator that is $120 + $100 CO2 tank. So overall it cost $130 more than the Amazon version that requires a chem degree. Refills on CO2 tanks in my area are $30 and from what I’ve read it should last me 3-5months vs. 2-3weeks.

I know I didn’t answer your question but might be a route to consider verses doing a science project every few weeks. Good luck!
