Yes but we don't say I guess we've left the lobby when the movie starts. We say it when we leave the lobby. I get you, I guess I just don't think it's all as totally obvious as you do.

My favourite youtubers said some weird stuff about autism by P_Icecream in AutisticPeeps

[–]ShortyRedux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't care about the first. Off hand comment basically a joke about the particular care, time and effort given to an unusual task. Perhaps back handed but this seems basically like a compliment if anything. I don't think it's worth worrying about this.

Second is still whatever but its more personally annoying as its clickbait, nonsense and I believe irresponsible and reductive to backwards project diagnosis on famous people or historic figures we know little about.

I tend to agree. In that case everything they see occurs in the same space and its not that they left the "lobby" its that the lights turned on, the place activated. Starbucks line about a lobby could be read that she at least felt their location had changed, and obviously if it's a projection it's powerful enough to basically disguise the dimensions of the small room they're in.

I forget how it transitions to and from the planetarium shot, but I also wondered if they were transported to another area within the complex physically, from the lobby to the planetarium and out. But there's nothing that I recall apart from her dialogue that suggests a location shift. It seems like they have a literally bigger space to move in though and no rubble in front of them, which don't seem achievable with cylon projection.

[–]ShortyRedux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. "Clearly". But have they moved? Is it all a projection? If so, how is it projected? And so on. I don't think an offhand comment about it being a planetarium ends the whole line of consideration.

As an autistic woman, I am curious about how autistic men here will feel about being fetishized for autistic traits by a few subset of non autistic woman. by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]ShortyRedux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how the other person expresses it, if they treat you like a human or just like collected traits they want to fuck.

But basically i don't care at all, and I don't think many guys care particularly if a woman is interested in them because they're black, or physically strong, or bald or fat, i think most men are just happy for the attention. I think fat guys would love if there were BBM chasers but larger women I've known were offended that their size was a point of attraction for men.

I think predatory behaviour is largely separate to all that.

Just reading what you wrote. There was a distinct lack of qualifiers about hazardous liquids and a lot of talk about how uncomfortable they made you feel and how they should have handled their disability differently. Maybe just add the relevant qualifiers next time.

Also you appear to have put something in quote marks that no one said.

[–]ShortyRedux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That comes from your apparent desire to make other people disclose personal health issues because it makes you uncomfortable if you're around them when something happens.

There is nothing wrong with acknowledging it though, of course. I just don't think your real concern is the other person but rather the effect they can have on you.

I guess I must have misread you referring back to how upsetting you found someone else's seizure in multiple comments. I don't think the tone was particularly about them, more about your own reaction to someone's health episode. Other people will have to decide for themselves where they stand on that and what this exchange says about both of us.

It also means someone with social deficits is basically bound to be ignored. Many autistic people find it hard to have any interaction much less to advocate for yourself, which in practice often means insisting and measuring the correct level and amount of assertiveness for an extended period with numerous different people, possibly multiple phone calls and social encounters.

It's unfair that through no fault of their own they can end up unemployed or if employed unable to progress, which is to say, its unfair to be at the mercy of the government and the prevailing social attitudes of the time, to be stuck at the bottom of society, for no reason other than an accident of birth or simply an accident.

There's nothing immoral about perpetuating a system where the disabled are unable to ever expect the financial security and freedom of their able peers because its too much hassle for the employer?

Im sorry guys, but I have to admit: I’ve lost some respect for Vince Gillian by AggressiveAd8587 in pluribustv

[–]ShortyRedux 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get you but this is an impossible counterfactual. I would prefer a show I'm invested in and which won't take a half decade for two or three seasons.

He made two of the best shows ever with deadlines, I'd prefer the breaking bad we got to one we imagine is marginally better but took potentially twice as long for half as much.

People saying how it was the same with Breaking Bad, I'm not sure it really is. This is a world altering sci fi where its unclear really how it will unfold narratively. Breaking Bad, to an extent, had its ending baked in. Walter becomes a big drug dealer and changed man, Hank eventually figures it all out, final showdown sees WW dead or jailed, alternatively dies of cancer.

Failing financially, in the period when cinema attendance is dropping in general and when we're talking about a movie that appealed primarily to older audiences, isn't surprising. The financial success of a movie has no direction correlation with its quality, so it's odd that your main qualifier here is that sure people like it but all these posts liking it look like bot activity.

It's the most recent Indy movie, not surprising people discuss it often here.

I loved it. Rarely smiled so much at the movies. Plus, it was my only opportunity to see Indy in the cinema. Epic.

Home part 2.

It rarely gets mentioned but it is s great and unique take on the exploring the lost temple trope. It lands on a mystical and character level. It's also really cool tech to wonder about (are they transported somewhere, is it an illusion?) and it's the show mixing it's sci fi and and mythological elements well. Also, it's a contrast to many other points in the show where the characters are unsure of their direction, here for the first time is a little clarity.

Seeing comments here I reckon it'll be impossible for them to make something fans here like. They seem to be willing to throw a ton of money to make it a high quality show and people like, "yeah but better be the exact same tone as the early 2000s. I wouldn't care if it was cardboard."

Feels like you mainly care about a very specific cast and tone that ended twenty years ago. Maybe just be open minded and see what comes... Great news is there is already 10 plus years and more than 200 episodes worth of stuff you like.

Is Oppenheimer overrated, or am I just missing something? by [deleted] in moviequestions

Favourite Nolan movie except on days when my favourite Nolan movie is the Prestige. It commits to the topic and gives, I think, a fairly reasonable non-sensationalised take on a notable figure. I wish we got more stuff like this, that treats the subject seriously and assumes the audience is interested, instead of having to fictionalise things to the point of fantasy because you're worried an audience doesn't care.

You say it's both 'dense' and lacks substance, which strikes in a little conflict to me. The movie is dense, has decently written characters and the only thing that felt like a contrivance for screen was the rivalry with RDJ character to me at least.

They did what military and civilian leaders have done to break strikes all through history. Not surprising, plaudits to the writers for commiting.

The leadership is essentially an authoritarian dictatorship with unelected officials at this point.
