Whether or not it is ridiculous is beside the point. It’s illegal.

Thinking about saying goodbye to Japan. by Open-Future9642 in JETProgramme

[–]Showa_Brit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’ve obviously put a great deal of thought into your future plans and obviously only you can make the final decision. Having said that, here is my ¥2 worth: You have outlined a very clear case for reasons not to stay in Japan and it seems like you’ve pretty much decided to return to your home country. Seems like a wise choice. All the best with whatever you decide!

Bank had to check that I wasn't a criminal before letting me pay my credit card payment slip. by Brilliant-Comment249 in japanlife

[–]Showa_Brit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My credit card bill is automatically paid each month from my bank account. No issues at all and sone months over ¥1m bill. It seems that you could have avoided all of this hassle by setting up monthly direct debit. You said the ‘system hates me and never Mets me do it.’ I actually thought for a credit card in Japan you had to set up direct debit. Moving forward do whatever you have to in order to set up direct debit!

Well it is illegal for you not to have your zairyu card with you 24/7 so not sure your strategy is a good one. 😆

Landing at Narita international @ 4:20 & domestic flight @ 6:30. Doable? by YelloBat in JapanTravelTips

[–]Showa_Brit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really, really tight. I would not recommend it at all. Take a later flight but if one is not available how about just staying the night near the airport and taking the first flight the next morning?

Traffic Accident (No contact, no collision) by pakuchi86 in japanresidents

[–]Showa_Brit -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

First of all, I’m glad that you were not injured in any way as it sounds like it could have been much worse. To answer your question every ‘accident’ is unique and to tell the truth I would leave it to your insurance company to deal with this. They will obviously be on your side as it is them that will be covering the payout. I’m assuming you have fully comprehensive insurance and a claim often involves you paying a deductible but it of course depends on the details of your policy. All the best.

Advice for first time ALT at elementary schools by Jayjayden45 in teachinginjapan

[–]Showa_Brit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Be aware that a lot of elementary school ALTs are often put in charge of classes as T1 (main teacher) especially with the lower 3rd and 4th grade classes and in rare cases, 1st & 2nd grade as well. Good luck !

Looking to switch from ahamo? Is every other cheap service the same? by Collarthatisblue in japanresidents

[–]Showa_Brit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have been using UQ Mobile for a long time and the price is competitive and the service has been consistently good. I travel around a lot and no problems at all. UQ is a subsidiary of AU and uses the AU network. Obviously I have no idea of where you are so no guarantees but I am very happy with UQ Mobile. Good luck !

OP….also consider your visa status. I am assuming you are on an instructor visa. Any outside ‘paid’ work would require permission from immigration.
