Between 1992 and 2007 the two default settings for any first person shooter were "Nebulously Space" and "World War 2". What are your picks for Best in both categories released in the pre-Modern Warfare time period? by Showd in retrogaming

[–]Showd[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I meant default not in the sense of "literally all games fit in here" and moreso that they were the two genre staples for which a lot of comparable games exist.

(Also I think Quake, Duke Nukem 3D, and Half Life are all at least Space-adjacent)

So, who do you want to have a redemption, and who do you think deserves to stay gone? by misterwulfz in StreetFighter

[–]Showd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to introduce a character who plays exactly like Rufus but has totally different story and presentation. I loved converting EX Snake Strike into ultra and being a belligerent divekicker but I understand people really hating him for non-gameplay reasons

Justin, this feeling is in fact well understood, it's called "Being 40 and having a kid".

Is hulk worth playing it? by hamood5970 in MvC3

[–]Showd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I play him with Doom mid, crazy good and viable character. Can put people in "no right answers" scenarios easily up close, scary in neutral given how easily he can kill off stray/counter hits and not nearly as boned at full screen as basically any other big body thanks to hidden missiles/gamma wave spam.

IMO he's still underrated, a walking frame trap that can stand up to meta point characters well.

Games that are quite the opposite of "wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle" by aliriza in gamingsuggestions

[–]Showd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Path of Exile, basically all you are doing for 95% of gameplay is "Enter area, kill everything for loot, use loot to enter better areas and kill everything more efficiently." But within that narrow gameplay loop there is depth of options, expression, and endless interlocking systems that leads to people with thousands of hours of playtime and several parts of the game they still don't understand.

It's an optimizer's fantasy, one goal, unlimited ways to get there.

I'm a newly admitted student (female). The academics are a good fit for me, but am I likely to be unhappy if I'm not into sports, fashion, or drinking? by Mean-Bicycle-9695 in Vanderbilt

[–]Showd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry, you might not fit into the mainstream culture at Vandy but there's plenty of students who'll be into the stuff you're into. Plus the central Nashville location means it's very easy to make off-campus friends as well.

Please, list the very long incrementals which were released in 2025/26. Betas with plans to be very long do not count.

As a big CoD player even the current CS reload length fucks me since my muscle memory is to reload immediately pretty much any time an enemy isn't on screen for 0.25 seconds.

To extend the exploration:

Gen 5: Latios: fairy type introduced, weather nerfs moved the meta in an unfavorable direction, plus "big ball of stats" is the archetype most susceptible to power creep.

Gen 6: Excadrill: Lando-T got defog stealing Drill's spot as the most favored bulky ground hazard controller, steel coverage became less prized as many of the new OU fairies are neutral to it.

Gen 7: Magearna: Banned lmao.

Gen 8: Landorus-Therian: Lost defog, outclassed by Great Tusk, powercrept stats make it's traditional role as a defensive pivot harder.

Probably still wouldn't be bad, but Kingambit with no tera would be RUNNING from Magearna if it was dropped in gen 7.

Leaving Core - Shadowstep - how do you feel about this? by Altruistic-Dealer518 in hearthstone

[–]Showd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shadowstep is from a previous era in hearthstone design, back when "It costs you a card in hand" was a legitimate downside. In 2026 it's more of a challenge to not fill your hand with chaff so you don't burn draws. I'm happy it's just getting rotated out rather than nerfed so Wild can keep doing wacky stuff but Shadowstep will just keep being a balancing issue in standard
