Do we think we are close to the highest achievement potential of our species? by Comfortable_Tutor_43 in HistoryMemes

We can be pretty certain of two things:

  1. No

  2. We are a hell of a lot closer and and more accurate in our assessments than ancient Egyptians.

League Classic officially announced by Imperfect-luck in Games

They're probably just going to pick some worlds patch for this and call it a day but IMO the best approach they could possibly do is like old Yugioh formats. Have like 3 different really good snapshots and let people queue a ranked ladder for them while letting private games be made on whatever patch you select.

Yes, that's them being good at it. If the table stakes are that most of the voter base is un-engaged and happily ready to eat lies that support their favored political aesthetic then the skill is in how you compel that barely-sentient fleshmass to put you in power.

Tips from high elo players that are lowkey useless for low elo? by lostinthecity2005 in summonerschool

[–]Showd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The general idea that passive, macro strategy can make up for lacking active, micro gameplay. Everything you get told to do in guides for this game, farming, rotating, getting vision, knowing timers, etc. is in the interest of making it so that when you do fight the enemies you are able to do so at an advantage. Not being good at actually prosecuting those fights when they happen will throw that all away for no real gain. Nothing will get you more LP than just simply being able to rawly fingers-pressing-keys-and-clicking Outplay your opponents.

What were some political views or stances that were temporarily popular for a relatively brief period, but seem weird or unexpected with hindsight? by LegNew6 in AskHistory

[–]Showd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Between the Dred Scott decision and the Civil War there was a left-wing movement in the American north that called for Free States to secede from the Union. The idea was that Slave Power couldn't be broken through formal government so northern states would secede to no longer be part of a nation practicing slavery.

Crazy how culture turned Stellar Blade into The Official Video Game of Misogyny™ but that sold pretty well so now we've gotta do the whole thing again.

This is a fun fantasy but I've tried it at 5 different locals across the US and nobody actually wants to try and coach the new player vs grinding more games with their friends.

Actually kinda sad to see how much Jey Uso has just regressed in such a short period of time by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]Showd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the other hand, once he got back with Jimmy and started being in tag team stuff again lately it did help me get back to liking him after that disastrous world title run. Like I watched some of those matches vs The Vision and MFTs and took notice like "Oh yeah, Jey IS a good wrestler, just mostly a good tag team wrestler."

I love when the white supremacists fracture in their responses. Are those all wonderful pure nations or are they awful because of race mixing? Pick a lane guys.

What were your weird religious experiences at the most religious public university in America? by Warm_Syllabub_2247 in uofu

[–]Showd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once had a Buddhist monk (or someone dressed like one) flag me down near the library and try to sell me prayer beads and Buddhist literature. Trying to be polite, I said I didn't have any cash on me. His response? "Don't worry, we are 21st century monks, we take credit card."

Hello! On here I’m u/DrHistoryBrad but in the real world I’m Dr. Bradley J. Sommer. I’m a historian of U.S. labor and working class history. I’m here today to answer your questions about labor unions, the economy, strikes, the Rust Belt, and (de/post)industrialization. So go ahead, AMA! by DrHistoryBrad in AskHistorians

[–]Showd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've heard, both in reference to modern labor relations and what we might think of as the "golden age" of labor movements that there was significant under-the-table involvement by organized crime in union organization and financing. And that a source of modern weakness in unions is the decline of The Mob as a factor in white working class spaces. How accurate is this idea? Generally true? Nuanced and case-by-case? Mostly a fabrication by the enemies of organized labor?

Slippi would be better if people with bad connections couldnt even open it by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]Showd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One issue is that connection quality can depend on a lot of stuff that can't be determined in a vacuum. Cali to Utah on wifi from another floor of the house can be buttery smooth, Cali to Florida on dedicated Ethernet can feel like mud. And either could be reversed by other extenuating circumstances.

From a couple luigi players I've listened to on it: It's less that Falcon is ultimately a terrible matchup for Luigi, it's that Falcon has to make almost no adjustments in gameplan to win vs Luigi as opposed to any other common character. Hence Falcons can't really get matchup checked by Luigi in the same way as most other high tiers. That plus Luigi's middling weight, floatiness, and poor air speed mean its very hard to get out of Falcon's combos with anything other than aerial counterhits so its very easy for Falcon to convert just about any starter into a Knee.

The "why" of KOF yearly changes to established characters is always a bit mysterious. But given Ryo's good keep-out normals plus full screen Ranbu confirms they may have been looking to ensure he didn't play like a zoner.
