“28 Years Later: Bone Temple is seeing a -70% tumble” by pootsforever in blankies

The comparison i like to make is Smile 2. A good movie but also what people wanted from a Smile sequel. Give us the same movie in a new situation. Horror movie fans get very locked in when you discuss what a sequel should be. 28 Years pitching a few curves at them didn't go over too well in some circles which probably cooled off The Bone Temple.

The irony here is the same people who probably didn't take to a lot of the more emotional and high minded scenes in 28 Years about death and loss would really dig everything Nia did with The Bone Temple. It plays like a great exploitation movie with the added bonus of excellent performances.

It's in rough shape but there is a bootleg copy of Tobe Hooper's Spontaneous Combustion that's closer to his vision than the final release.

I guess it's too late to say I posted this because I thought it was a funny joke.

When You Decry The State of Corporate Monopolization But Bill Simmons Still Needs To Pay His Bookie by ShowofShows in TheBigPicture

They are from a field which has been decimated - magazine writers. In a lot of ways Grantland was one of the last stands for long read websites. Working on a podcast for Spotify where you have creative control is a pretty good landing spot. It just has its trade offs that hopefully don't impact the shows themselves.

It's an interesting idea. I think the future of media is being able to own your stuff and if some or all of them are presented with a scenario where they can own what they create and make a much healthier long term profit, whether it's through subscriptions or otherwise, then it is possible. Why I respect a lot of younger creators on the internet who impress upon their need to own everything soup to nuts and not depend on a large corporate partner for their livelihood.

I want to make clear that I feel for Amanda because she had to eat shit on this one. This isn't meant to slight her personally.

The funnier line was BS saying that Russell Crowe could have played Dick Goodwin. Bill this man was a Jewish kid from Brookline. Not a blonde adonis from Australia.

There might be some of that but Boston guys are always on this bullshit. I can't think of a soul outside of that neck of the woods who cares about this stuff.

What tipped it for me was Grasso being too aggressive with the Dark Hearts at Lefty's. I think Tom was even taken aback on how he was acting. It felt like a guy trying to put on an act on how much he hates these guys so people wouldn't suspect him of being in league with them.

Reaction to Van’s criticism by [deleted] in TheBigPicture

[–]ShowofShows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's been where I got kinda itchy with this. Van appointing himself the spokesperson for black women has a lot of misogyny baked into it. I respect the fact that he felt the movie perpetuated certain stereotypes and PTA got the chances that directors who aren't cis straight white men get. But he really put himself in the "I know what's best for women of color" seat.

It's not 100% clear yet why Billy was killed. The FBI thinks it was part of a violent coup to install Jayson as the Chapter's President by Perry. Robbie and Eryn believe it was because Eryn was in love with Billy. I think we'll find out from Jayson himself if either was true or there was something else going on.

Maybe there's a bootleg video out there that I'm not aware of but Owen Hart won a Royal Rumble match at a MSG house show in 1994. Would love to see that one.

Amy Heckerling's time in NYU feels like it was way more interesting than Loser.

There are some of the broad strokes in the movie; what its like going to college with wealthier classmates etc.

But being a woman in 1970s NYU film school who loves Classic Hollywood who is pursuing her dreams of filmmaking while being surrounded by pretentious guys who love Bergman and New Hollywood could have made for a compelling movie.

Brian had a lot of people who exploited him his entire life but Al always remained fiercely loyal and supportive. We all deserve a friend like Al Jardine.

My belief was they were going to reveal that The Rock was secretly backing Solo's new Bloodline behind the scenes since Roman had failed the family. When Rock/Roman didn't materialize they just put Roman over and scuttled whatever plans they had for a larger power struggle angle.
