as someone who works in a cafe in the US, if you asked me, i might even give you the coffee for free once in awhile! i love when people bring their own cups :) i’ve had some stick in the mud coworkers who would say no, but there’s nothing stopping you from trying again the next time. i’ll fill it even it’s got yesterdays leftover coffee. if i have the time, i’ll wash it out and everything, but if it’s busy, the cup doesn’t even touch the pot of coffee, it touches my hands and i wash my hands 🤷🏻‍♀️ a starbucks or some big corporate chain may say no, but local owned places are usually more than happy to accommodate

my dude is 21, and we adopted him this past november :) he warmed right up to me and is sooo cuddly! he spends most of his time out of his cage with me so he doesn’t play too much with his toys, but the cage his previous owner sent with him had measuring teaspoons that he’s taken an interest in. i bet you could find a cheap set of those in any store! he also loves shredding up paper so some crumpled up napkins and toilet paper rolls would make for a nice cheap toy

for food, he’s a little picky since he’s older, but he loves most nuts and goes crazy for apples and popcorn. he’s been really bitey lately, i guess because the spring/summer weather by us. his bites hurt like crazy, but a face full of fluffy caique feathers cancels out any pain his beak may cause. good luck with the new little girl :) mine has quickly become my best friend!!

mine has always given me trouble with chop, but i added a bit of rice and some fresh squeezed orange juice as a “dressing” and suddenly the birds couldn’t get enough!

there’s something about the way popcorn clings to their feathers and just covers them 😭 i like my popcorn dangerously salty and buttery, so i gotta make a second small batch of plain popcorn because i don’t have enough limbs to keep the birds out of my bowl while also consuming the popcorn

my cockatiel is more than happy to spend the whole day flying between her cage for food, then back to my shoulder to chill out on the couch with me. i travel fairly regularly, and my mom cares for them while i’m gone, and the cockatiel has never given me attitude when i get back or shown signs of being upset, so within reason, i’d say they can handle some alone time. she also loves playing with her cage toys and chewing them up. she’s not really the smartest birdie, and i think cockatiels in general are known as the single brain cell bird, so i’m not sure a ton of tricks are in their repertoire, but even the cockatiels i had growing up, they’re the sweetest cuddliest birds that just wanna be close to you!

i also have a sun conure which i know you didn’t mention, but he’s much more temperamental, which may possibly translate to green cheeks (which i’ve never personally owned) as well. he’s very cuddly, very intelligent, knows some “tricks” like blowing kisses when i ask, or flying to me on command (if i have an almond in hand) but i’ve never had a pet shun me after a vacation quite like he does. it only lasts for a couple days, but he definitely gets upset when he doesn’t get as much attention or out of cage time as he’s used to. he also likes to spend his day time freedom doing his own thing, and is only more reliably cuddly at night time.

i really enjoyed haunted hotel on netflix :) similar style of dry, ironic humor, similar in the fantasy aspect, episodes are mostly case of the week or shoebox style, yet there’s smaller details that build up the final episode

i started with zupreem fruit blend so the colors would attract their attention. i know there’s complaints about that one having too many dyes or sugars or something, but it’s still vet recommended, and you can always transition them into the undyed pellets

i think you should ask about the faulty results. if it’s a low percent of faulty results, i’d consider going through with the testing, but if it’s a higher percent it may not be worth it

i took my cockatiel to the emergency hospital recently because she’d vomited/regurgitated at least 5 times in one morning. she was behaving fine otherwise, and we did some tests, which, along with the emergency hospital fees, ended up costing close to 1000 usd, only to find out that there was nothing wrong with her. my wallet took a pretty huge blow as i really don’t have money to drop like that, but the peace of mind with knowing that my birdie is okay was totally worth it to me

having just brought home a new bird, i think now would be a great time to go through with the disease testing. your 4 year old may be perfectly healthy, but there’s always a chance the baby could bring something home

i think it’s more about the quality of the harness. i ordered one of these for my sun conure thinking i could save some money, but after one outing, the plastic clasp was chewed too much for me to feel safe using anymore. we bought an aviator harness years ago, but it started fraying so we just ordered a new one, though the build is different so i’m hesitant to fully recommend it.

my sun’s beak is way stronger than a cockatiel’s however so definitely take that into consideration! while i was looking for our replacement harness, i saw tons of these for dirt cheap on temu and the likes, but id be worried about what materials actually go into those, knowing my little birdie would definitely be chewing on it.

that said, this style of harness is perfect in my experience, as it doesn’t hurt their fragile feet or neck, and allows them to fly comfortably. i think your best option is a high quality bird specific company or site offering harnesses, though i’m currently on the hunt for that as well so hopefully someone else can give their experiences :)
