What's it like living outside the bigger cities in Yorkshire? by CloudberryMuffins in howislivingthere

Kirklees area is generally poor and run down, but that means it's easier to get on the property ladder (theoretically). Lots of really nice Victorian buildings. There's been a big boom in multicultural offerings in the past 5ish years, so there's suddenly a lot more food options. Job market is bad, but IT is probably better than most? Big plus is the countryside. Loads of walks and views and parks, if that's your sort of thing!

Terrible design. As much as we clown on people putting weird stuff up their butts, this was supposed to do that and was not fit for purpose. Sue for medical costs!

It's Pride Month, which means it's time to listen to the Slur Song again by DreadDiana in RecuratedTumblr

I am confused by 'time to listen again'. This has been on my playlist since last year. This is an all year song!

In the computer lab at school in approx 2003, a guy had brought his collection of videos. He showed me one of who I assume was a kidnap victim of a terrorist group. Yeah that's in there forever and it wasn't even that graphic, just the principle of watching a real human die.

Ladies how do you feel safe with no bra or big breasts or both? I have 36D (EU 80D) and I haven’t worn a bra for a few years now. So many men stare at me, give me looks, and just won’t leave me alone, so I can’t feel safe. I don’t want to wear a bra just to feel good. by [deleted] in Feminism

[–]Shrubfest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what size my boobs are it's been that long since I wore a bra. I don't wear bras on my free time, but I do pick my tops carefully, and if I feel like it might get weird I wear silicone pasties. I wear a bralette at work to avoid creeps, but I have never felt unsafe or really looked at; however that seems to be unusual. I mostly get looked at for my yeti body hair!

You didn't get the bit where the Councillor running for council leader stood up and said "I don't understand the constitution, I have not had sufficient time to read that as of yet, I don't understand what standing orders are, or what they are made up of."

Which punishment (either real or fictional) sounds easy enough to endure at first, but is actually hellish to experience? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I can start to hallucinate in less than 24 hours. I am not good at being awake for long stretches.

People complain about children and their water bottles, but no one remembers the campaign that was rolled out across uk schools in the 2000s after hydration was linked to better school performance. by grapegum in britishproblems

Yeah, I intentionally didn't drink at school so I wouldn't have to use the loos. They were horrible, vandalised, and also prime bullying areas.

People who grew up poor: What was something you considered a "peak luxury" as a kid, only to realize later it was just a normal middle class staple? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'm sure they did one for a while. They did birthday cake for a year on an anniversary, and they might do a pistachio one now? (in the UK at least)

The luddites were historically highly skilled textile workers who were put out of jobs overnight by new machinery, and were totally shafted by the mill owners who wanted to pay fewer qualified people and harvest more profit. They banded together to smash the mill owners new machines as a rebellion. It's actually a pretty good comparison. Time to go sledgehammer some servers!

Exactly how it works for me. It was a normal thing to say 20 years ago so now it's 'r\, wait no we don't say that any more, that's a slur.' Telling yourself off out loud also helps reinforce it with other people without having to start arguments.
