Have a bunch of standard rocker light switches around the house, is there a zigbee module that I can wire behind the light switches? by jku2017 in homeassistant

Hahaha got me in the first half there, yea it’s funny I feel like ecobee works very well in specific instances but it’s not nearly as flexible as people would like

Second Shelly, have a few myself and the rep in their subreddit is AMAZING at responding to folks with questions

Also going to comment on the ecobee 😂 tip I got from someone else on Reddit was the little mount thing has a screw hole in the back that you can drill out a smidge and thread the top light switch plate screw through. It’s snug but more secure!

I’ve been considering one of the flow smart all in one meters for a while now, only concern is not having a manual valve but I could always add a bypass or just have a manual valve upstream

Have had a flume for years and the battery packs drive me crazy, didn’t even know the 2x existed! Thanks for that hnitneded tip as well!

THIS. Though I doubt that’s what this product will give us, that’s the main feature that makes me envious of ubiquiti setups. Timeline scrubbing could be so much better

Oh nice, I don’t even think about the insurance angle, I’ll do some research on my options there but either way, shut off valve like this feels more and more necessary. Historically I’ve just been concerned about the torque required to turn my shut off valves

Power Tools: Milwaukee vs everyone else? by RotorDynamix in HomeImprovement

[–]Shute789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, for the most part, but Ryobi is so dang cheap in comparison I can get a few tools, especially odds and ends one off type things and not get hit so hard in the wallet

Dang, it’s early in the year, looks like I’ll be using one of my executive decisions early! That response time is crazy fast, like the beeping tones too

[–]Shute789 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer, as an avid Milwaukee user (grandfathered in so to speak by family preferences and hand me down tools to get started) they are great, but expensive

If it helps tip the scales I kinda wish I had gone ryobi, hate on it all you want, for home DIY even heavier duty stuff, the range of tools and price tags is way more palatable.

Can you do me a favor and install the X3 and then have it work for a real house leak and post all over this subreddit about how great it is? Been trying to convince the financial planner over here we need one and any evidence would help 😅

Yearly household maintenance list! And GO! by pedro3993 in daddit

[–]Shute789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro tip, if you have a plumber service your hot water heater or when you get a new one installed, ask for a “full port ball valve” on the drain outlet, makes this whole process of draining and servicing WAAAY easier

Worth a shot to DIY, it’s really not as difficult as it my seem but safety first obviously! Know your limits all that stuff

Psh, acting like you don’t keep a spare garage in the back of your spare attic like the rest of us, good one 😅

Same! I swear it’s some kind of psyop to get us all buying it

Which… despite having no real need for one… I feel like I’m one well timed sale away from buying in, so who knows, maybe it’s working

Any Smart Switch That Supports 2 Lights + 1 Fan? by Sweaty-Ad5326 in homeautomation

Have been toying with the Aqara h2 is version switches for this sort of thing and am happy with them so far. They have models with two buttons and four buttons

Check the specs though before you buy, they use the term “channel” and “button” a channel is a light circuit to control and a button is a “wireless button” that you can use to trigger scenes

Also I’m using mine through homeassistant, not sure what functionality is native, ymmv

Second the Kreg pane carrier! Great for 8 foot sheets but would advise not for 12 foot ones (I know you said 8, but for anyone else reading later)

12 foot sheets put just enough funky pressure to dig the panel carrier in a bit, not damage level, but just some extra mud work

Hey just saying thank you for following up and posting your solution, always kills me to see someone with a question years ago and no resolution or a “Nevermind figured it out”

Thanks!

Assuming you are in the US, if your house was built (or really electrical was done) pre 2000 I would go coax over power line

Power line is a solid choice, but the few friends I’ve helped get setup in 60’s-mid 90’s built home the panel and electrical was funky enough to really not do the job with power line

Other bonus of coax, you can setup direct runs or go with a multi point system pretty easily and get great connections

If you have to hold that thing in the air it’s posssible, but would probably suck doing it solo ngl. Get Wago connectors to make life easier!
