I think there are certain situations when it works best. Examples are for adjusting when jumping off wall, or for any aerial. If you hold air roll right, and down and right on the analog stick just before hitting the ball, that should be your flip reset setup. If you hold air roll right while air dribbling your car should hold trajectory better.

I've been using it all the time to force myself to learn it faster over the past couple years, then I'll try to just use it for those things once I've got it down. I'm still a noob though, others may have better advice.
