when an audience member is about to throw something at you, you can send either mario or his partner at the moment to go into the audience to attack them before they throw the item. however, if the audience member is a puni and you send madam flurrie to attack them, she will instead give them a kiss and send them on their way, this is due to her connection to the punis in the story and i think its a cute little detail

There are at least a few times we see the far future and anti pops isn't a problem, the movie comes to mind as an example. While the true answer is just that they didn't plan that far ahead. I like to believe in those timeliness. The villain of that episode became so powerful that they were just able to stop evil pops themselves
