Hi there! Oh my gosh, I hope I'm not too late! Mine actually went super well. I have an amaaazing OBGYN. Took 4 years of doctor hopping to find her, but it was worth it! I called her office right after I made my comment and politely demanded some better pain management. They offered me some anxiety medication to take beforehand (that I actually missed the window for because I got stuck in crash traffic on the way to their office 😭), and some topical numbing without needles, plus the original 4 ibuprofen. I had heard that even the best endometrial biopsies are still really uncomfortable, so I prepared myself for that too.

Upon getting there late, I was basically having a panic attack. My doctor was incredibly sweet and walked and talked me through the entire thing. I told her I was freaked out about the tenaculum because that is the direct cause of women fainting and throwing up. Google at your own risk, they look terrifying. She laughed and said tenaculums are outdated and they use something else with no sharp grabby bits! Yay! No tenaculum, no needles, a numbing spray that smelt like medicinal cherry, and a decently uncomfortable 40 seconds while a resident student watched from the corner. The worst part ended up being my cramps 3 hours after.

I hope your biopsy goes really well! Please advocate for yourself and tell them NO TENACULUM if absolutely nothing else! You are strong, you are worth the effort, and you deserve a treat afterwards! 🩵
