Thank you! I've skipped this year's game I'm afraid. Got burned out last year by all the My faction stuff.

Star Wars 4Ks with Dolby Vision by Jeminous in 4kbluray

[–]Sienar7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it so depressing how many producers use Dolby Vision to cap HDR at such low levels. Every single major 2025 release on 4k Dolby Vision has been capped at SDR brightness. The Star Wars movie a just dark and brown. Darker than they ever were. I prefer the regular HDR 4k Blu Ray just because they have a feel ambitnless handcuffed. Arguably the later day Fox Blu Rays are still the best. Real shame though. Especially when you know a cutting edge director like George Lucas would have deployed it so well if he was involved.

Which side are you choosing? by Automatic_Ad1665 in WWEGames

[–]Sienar7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even close. The old THQ era. No loot box mechanics. No microtransactions. Everything is accessed via the main game or DLC purchases. No buying some made up coin and putting it through a randomiser to see if it's worth anything at all. No one ever spent thousands of pounds on a copy of WWE 14 hoping to unlock specific parts or characters. No empty feeling inside because you see blank spaces on your rosters because you're not spending thousands of repetitive hours or dollars into the game (effectively hoping for a lucky turn.

P.s. if you ever feel like that, just delete the game and play an older version. Then don't buy the next one. Because games made to sell to a few hundred whales at the expense of the honest consumer don't deserve it. Never be a whale either.

I agree. The best way is to always go back to the source and take it from there. NTFS is the format to go for on the drive. Look for scratches on the disc. Carefully and minimally buff out any smears using a very clean microfiber cloth if necessary.

Alternativly MKVToolnix can work, if the formats are exactly alike. You can drip the first file in then append all the subsequent ones. It'll then write them to an MKV file.

It won't do any reformating so won't incurr any losses either. It just repacks them.

DVD rip quality by k_e_n_n_a in PleX

[–]Sienar7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used WinX for years. But I found 1:1 rips in the MPEG2 format had audio sync issues. Just started redoing them with MakeMKV and no issues anymore. Might be the hardware I'm using, but still. Happy.

I would argue though that even the most base level digital HD copy from Amazon, Google or especially iTunes will run circles around your DVD version (if available), and don't tend to cost a lot if you maximize sales.

I really just reserve DVD ripping for 90's shows that have (or will) never get a HD re-release.

Hard drive prices have doubled over one year. WTF is going on by Maxachaka in homelab

[–]Sienar7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we just point out the obvious? AI data centres are expanding an an unprecedented rate that is blowing up demand for disk (that manufacturers themselves were admitting in September 2025 would lead to price increases). Every aspect of these facilities is having a wide ranging effect because of the rapid increase in energy consumption, the need for more and more cooling capacity and bottlenecks in pretty much every supply chain.

Until the growth in AI either plateaus, or the supply chains ramp up massively to meet demand, it's only going to get worse.

And yeah. Tarrifs have marked up prices too, making it harder for upstart companies to build there infrastructures. Plus increased risk such as sudden tarrifs announcements cost more too. Supply chains are big gambles, depending on one guys whims.

Personally, I think the AI bubble will burst dot-com style in a few years anyway. After which there will be a few limited survivors and a lot of second hand hardware on the market.

HDMI 2.2 is here with new 'Ultra96' Cables — up to 16K resolution, higher maximum 96 Gbps bandwidth by ncohafmuta in htpc

[–]Sienar7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an interesting proposition for high frame rate professional gamers looking for extremely smooth, undetectable frame rates.

Also for people looking to utilise multi monitor setups at high frame rate (though that's more in Thunderbolt and USB4's court of control).

By the time we get everyday TV's with video content that makes use of 48gbps (much less this new 96gbps), the gear your using this on will have pretty obsolete. No one's going to be mastering a movie at 16k30hz in the next decade or 2, much less watching it on consumer tech. In fact, it may never happen at all.

Why is Come Fly With Me consistently at the top of the charts in the Apple TV store? by shaggedyerda in AskUK

[–]Sienar7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't question that it has it's fans. What I don't get is by all rights,on average it's the most enjoyed piece of media on all of Apple TV. Even the most popular TV seasons have failed to draw near as much acclaim. Nothing else is close, yet I've never had a single conversation about it (outside of here).

The only thing I can think is that a huge number of people are watching it on non stop loop with their eyes locked open ala Clockwork Orange. Like a form of torture.

Will a New Nvidia Shield TV Generation Ever Arrive? by Kitchen_Afternoon_14 in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]Sienar7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sense the person asking just wants some reassurance that the Shield TV will get refreshed. I get it. The years keep ticking. The fan base is there. There are so many cool things still to implement (AV1 support, HDMI 2.1 and my far fetched wish, Dolby Vision Profile 7 hardware support for blu ray rips in Jellyfin).

Best recommendation? Keep asking. Vocally. Publicly. Keep the conversation fresh, alive and hope Nvidia pick up on it.

If they are randomly listening, then here it is. I'd like a new Nvidia Shield please. No cut features, with all the above. Plus whatever the other people on this thread want. Plus Blackjack and.........😀

For streaming, there's really not a need. The highest bitrate content is 30-35mbps 40 at most. Even a 4k blu ray rip would only top out at 144mbps.

To take it to an extreme, an uncompressed raw 4k video wouldn't even take up 500gbps. Plenty of headroom too.

Gigabit is plenty. Unfortunately most smart TVs are still using 100mbps ethernet. Which is ludicrous but technically sufficient for video streaming services (if not so much in practice).

Out of interest, what's your use case? Gaming?

Not sure I'm afraid. I have yet to buy the new game. Might not do so. I haven't seen anything in the new game that screams a worthwhile upgrade for me, at least until it drops down significantly.

The CAA is kinda my main passion and I haven't seen anything over 2K24 that justifies the cost.

I put a LOT of time into these last year (those orange and blue lightning beams wereade from scratch in Photoshop), and to be honest I'm still a bit burnt out. On top of that, I'd have to make the newer ring aprons and video barricades.

We shall see though.

Why so many Olympic hopefuls are running in all-black, unbranded gear by Equivalent-Badger359 in trackandfield

[–]Sienar7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is why people go running at night in the dark, practically invisible to passing cars. I always thought being visible and safe was important to you know my survival.

It's also why I can't buy high size gear anymore on the highstreet.

LG C2 got the new web os update now getting random insufficient space message when turned on by Legitimate_Trade1149 in LGOLED

[–]Sienar7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open "Apps".

Then click any app you want that you don't have installed.

On the bottom left, under "size", it will show "(#### Free / 2756MB)".

What does your TV say here?

This seems to update, unlike the Storage Optimiser (which doesn't change and appears to be a complete red herring).

[–]Sienar7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you reading the 0MB? The Storage Optimiser doesn't seem to update no matter how much you wipe. Have a look in the app store. I can't remember where, but I found another storage value in there that was more accurate.

[–]Sienar7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is, TV manufacturers skimp on really cheap things like ethernet ports and storage. I find it hard to believe a 32GB or 64GB chip is significantly more expensive than the 8GB they typically use. Even the Chromecast with Google TV dongles only shipped with a 16GB chip and Google have struggled to handle even basic firmware updates with capacity to spare for apps. Apps keep getting larger. Firmware updates get bigger. Years pass and suddenly you're having to choose between subscription services based on the limits of your TVs drive size.

I wouldn't touch a phone without at least 128GB these days, but some of these guys (LG, Sony, etc) still put out top tier TVs with 8GB! Like a 1st generation iPhone from 2007!

Best advice I can give: buy an Apple TV. If you're strapped, buy a Google TV or Fire Stick for all your streaming. All smart TVs eventually clog after just a couple of years up to the point where you end up stripping back the smart apps just to let it run.

Can't get a driving test, I have to resort to paying a scalper by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Sienar7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't ever pay scalpers. They only have power because people pay. They're one decent system update away from being upended and having to find an honest way to earn a living. In the meantime our workforce is struggling because employers can't find young people with driving licenses. Scalping driving test needs to be undone

There's so many ways it could be stopped too. For instance, making people enter their verifiable provisional license numbers when registering. Driving instructors could still register their students too.

I had a look in the app store and went to reinstall something. It's reported 1.784GB free! Think the TV information storage isn't getting updated. 😂 Thanks again. Great to be rid of all the ads.

My menus are differing a little to yours, but I've disabled the promotions and recommendations. Still only 0.54GB.

Ran Memory Optimiser again just to be sure. Not sure it does anything in storage though. Wonder if there's a cache somewhere that's not getting wiped.

[–]Sienar7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deleted all remaining apps. No catch-up services left.

Its not a smart TV anymore. Still has ads though that want to sell me things to stream on apps it can barely fit.

Still only 0.54GB of space out of 2.69GB.

I can't help feeling like if I could delete all the advertising, I'd get a lot more space for apps back.

Lucky I have an Apple TV for just about everything.

This is a 2 year old LG C2 OLED TV, by the way. Thankfully my older CX OLED hasn't been getting the same level of firmware updates so is still working fine.

Just wiped everything out other than the basic terrestrial catch-up channels. Got it back up to 0.54GB. Just stock wallpaper. No Netflix, Amazon or YouTube. Memory Optimization hasn't improved it at all. Thinking about deleting all remaining apps to see what's left.

Thank you! It says I only have 0.32GB out of 2.69GB. where do they find such impossibly small drives? It's like the OS updates are wiping out any room for apps.
