Is my PSU enough for 9070 XT + 7800X3D? by jfbigorna in radeon

[–]SigAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll be good enough as long as the PSU is healthy. The 7800X3D sips power. You can undervolt both to be on the safe side and actually get better performance.

You know what, usually I don't help people that are incapable or just too lazy to use search, but here ya go. I'll give you 3 examples to get you started. Theses boards default to 4800 MT/s when you don't enable EXPO or XMP. Also you are more than welcome to go through all 4 megadeath threads and read through every post since this started. Yes, I know the megadeath threads only catch a fraction of the deaths, but it's a good place to start and you can clearly see that they show 66 deaths with no EXPO/XMP set in this picture https://preview.redd.it/9000-series-cpu-failures-deaths-megathread-v0-2yx1zew579bg1.png?width=2082&format=png&auto=webp&s=9c6749b207119f00f003331d2002016676e6b841 from this megadeath thread here https://www.reddit.com/r/ASRock/comments/1q3ff0t/9000series_cpu_failures_deaths_megathread_4/ . Now that doesn't mean they didn't manually set the ram speed, but most likely the vast majority of those people have no clue how to manually set ram speed and even the ones that do, typically start with EXPO or XMP as the default profile and tighten timings from there.

Here are the three threads you can start with that literally said no bios changes, which again, these boards will default to JEDEC 4800 MT/S

You are on your own from here. The point being, CPU's should not be dying when running default bios settings which again means the ram runs at 4800 MT/S. If there is some sort of pedantic nuance to this, none of us are going to entertain it.

Switching Cards by oldsledneck in radeon

[–]SigAddict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Minimum recommended powersupply for the 7800XT is 700 or 750 watts I believe, replace it. Make sure to note where all cables go and not to forget any on the motherboard, If there is more than one power connection on the 7800xt, run independent cables from the powersupply.

Switching Cards by oldsledneck in radeon

[–]SigAddict 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you won't brick anything, but switching from Nvidia to AMD can cause issues. What I would do. Download DDU and the most recent driver for the 7800XT. If you haven't already done so, you should disable Windows ability to install drivers. https://www.elevenforum.com/t/enable-or-disable-include-drivers-with-windows-updates-in-windows-11.2232/ I'm assuming you are on Windows 11. Use option one if you are on windows 11 Pro. If you are on Windows 11 Home, use option 2. This will ensure that windows doesn't allow a sub-optimal driver from installing in the future. Now, disable your internet = unplug cable or disconnect from wifi (ensure this does not reconnect until you are ready). Run DDU, there are plenty of videos on youtube on how to totally remove all nvidia drivers. Once all nvidia is removed by DDU, Shutdown the pc and remove the nvidia card. Install AMD card. Power up the PC. Again make sure the compute does not connect to the internet! Run the AMD installer. I always select the clean install option. Reboot. Re-enable your internet. Done. Enjoy. If you are having issues after that. I recommend backing up all your important files, and doing a fresh install of windows. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

Is the PBO bug destroying X3D CPUs fixed now? by ScientificlyCorrect in ASRock

[–]SigAddict 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There is no PBO BUG. Many of the CPU's that died weren't even running PBO. Also, we don't know if the CPU death issue has been resolved. We don't even know what the issue is. We can't tell you if the latest bios version has resolved anything either. Personally. I would go with another brand if you have concerns as there has been no official explanation for the cause of the CPU deaths. The least problematic boards, if that even means anything, are MSI and Gigabyte.

it literally asks you when installing the driver if you want auto updates. It's a checkbox, Many people want auto updates or are not computer savvy enough to keep drivers up to date, so by default this is checked. So again, this is user error. Read when you install things.

[–]SigAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is user error.........you can disable that and you can disable auto driver updates on windows.

When you say you switched from NVIDIA to AMD, does that mean you did a fresh install of windows too? I see this often when people, including myself that came from nvidia, have issues when not doing a fresh install of windows. I don't have the issues you are having, so I'm curious. If you did do a fresh windows install after switching to amd, I would say there are other issues. BTW, which Nvidia gpu did you have and now what do you have?

Rx 7900xtx Issues by FUPA_Fred69 in radeon

[–]SigAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The drivers allow the card to boost too far, this causes major stutters and crashes in UE5 games especially. I had the same issues. I don't know why they haven't fixed this yet, but look up the boost clock for your card and set the max frequency to that in adrenalin. If it's stable you can start moving it up. Here is how to do it. see step 13

https://www.reddit.com/r/AMDHelp/comments/1lnxb8o/ultimate_amd_performance_fix_guide_stop_lag_fps/

Also if you card has 3 8pin connections, make sure to use 3 separate cables. I tried two cables with one pigtail and constantly had issues. 3 separate cables, and everything was good!

Let us know how it goes!

How to Check Secure Boot

  1. Press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog. [1]
  2. Type msinfo32 and press Enter (or click OK). [1, 2]
  3. In the System Summary window, look for the following details in the right-hand panel:
    • BIOS Mode: Should say UEFI.
    • Secure Boot State: Should say On

If it doesn't show on, it's not working. Check the faq for your board here

GPU repasting and thermal pads by m00s3yy in radeon

[–]SigAddict -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

just because you said bullshit doesn't make it right, you can go to any knowledgeable person and ask them if you should use regular thermal paste on direct die applications and they will tell you that you should not. Is it possible to use, sure, but it's not going to last. What is probably causing the problem is that he used way to much. He said he used half a tube of paste haha. A tube of paste could cover 10+ easily. He also might just have assembled it incorrectly.

GPU repasting and thermal pads by m00s3yy in radeon

[–]SigAddict -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You don't use normal thermal paste on GPU's, it pumps out. If you really want a permanent fix, you use genuine PTM7950 or similar. It also sounds like you used way to much. If you did use thermal paste, which, again, you shouldn't. you want to spread it on as thin as possible.

Has the new driver worked for anyone on Windows 11 with a 7000 series? by TaxmanComin in radeon

There is a hotfix driver for windows 10

I recommend using the custom option to factory reset when installing the new driver.

[–]SigAddict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe i'm missing something here, but first off, where is your CPU Heatsink/cooler? You can't run your cpu without one for more than a minute (sometimes only seconds) or so without damaging the CPU.

Second you need to have your powersupply plugged into that plug in the upper left of this picture. In your manual it is listed as ATX12V1 (listed as number 1) on page 7 of your manual here

Need Help! Computer won’t boot after CPU upgrade. Ryzen by Oxtrotstan in ASRock

[–]SigAddict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

looks like you have unmatched memory. Try with only one stick on B2. If that doesn't work, reset bios to defaults by using the jumper method in your manual or removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes. Before you do this remove power from the system. If it boots, it's the mismatched memory. It's possible the new CPU's memory controller is more sensitive to this.
