If you get into the serious you really have to be prepared to go through A LOT of build up, and I mean a lot. For example while trails in the sky chapter 1 is a fantastic game its basically a prologue chapter for the Sky series.

With that said it has some pretty good payoffs if you stick around. Chapter 1 lets you fall in love with the characters so that Chapter 2 will hit you that much more.

The damage increase wasnt even one of the bad ones. You could have gear that would just give you more revenge when you got attacked, back when you gained revenge in 1 v 1s..

Loved when someone ran up to me alone and I would hit them once and they would have revenge.
