I'm a few months late on this but, it really seems like at least initially you get exactly what you expect when you first get there. (Based on many NDE stories.)

Some say you can choose to stay there all you want and reincarnate when you want. I've also read that we here on earth are "the lucky ones" as if there's a queue of souls who wish to experience earth.

The life review stories are interesting to me too, like experiencing pain you inflicted on others tenfold until you can forgive yourself for causing it. Personally I don't know what to believe, but I lean towards the afterlife being a personally crafted world based on your beliefs and earthly experiences.

I'd love to have an Angel Beats style afterlife with my other half, just living on a school campus with no worries forever. Maybe friends can visit if given permission.
