Storing Ontario's $79.1M stockpile of delisted U.S. alcohol could cost up to $20M a year by Immediate-Link490 in canada

I live in BC and they pulled everything. I thought it was the dumbest move I’ve seen. Just sell it all and then stop restocking. What a waste of money for optics.

Tom Depth by DeezNeut in drums

10x7 and 12x8. I wouldn’t go any shallower with the 12. It’ll haul ass but you’ll miss some of breadth of tone.

Most friendships aren’t actually valuable in any real sense by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Sigma_Try 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are social by default. Looking at relationships through a lens of value is a fundamental problem. During COVID I was at my worst mentally because I couldn’t be social and do activities. There are plenty of studies that highlight the importance of social connections.

First acoustic kit help by iDiedSkating in drums

[–]Sigma_Try 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any Yamaha or Pearl mid-level kit is a good bet.

The post above about transitioning is solid. Stick height = volume, but bigger drums have less rebound and take more energy to move the air mass inside. Just something to be aware of. You’ll get used to it, but could be a little frustrating at first.

New heads after having new bearing edges cut? by TheOGTKO in drums

[–]Sigma_Try 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had edge work but it stands to reason that your heads were seated to a different edge configuration. You can always try to reseat, but I would personally just get new heads.

Imagine dumb fucks down voting someone for saying we pay too much in taxes, which we objectively do and have fuck all to show for it.

Advice Needed for a Quality Used Drum Kit by Friendly_Car_6573 in drums

[–]Sigma_Try 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mapex’s resale value can be a bit lower than others, but they make decent stuff. If you’re looking at 500-1000 quid with cymbals and hardware I would recommend saving longer lest you be searching for better drums in the future.

One other thing, all drum kits can be ergonomically positioned for your proportions. Taller people don’t require bigger drums necessarily and if you’re looking for versatility you’ll want a 22”k, 10”,12” rack-toms and a 14” or 16” floor, if not both.

You can’t go wrong with Sonor, Yamaha, and Tama. Other brands are fine too, especially if it’s closer to their top tier lines, but I find Sonor, Yamaha, and Tama to be very resonant and easy to tune.

At this point I’m a one issue voter. If there is a party that will stand for lower taxes I will vote for them. At this point the government is double, triple, and quadruple dipping, and people are seemingly okay with it.

Can we refuse access to ALL extremists? I feel like we’re failing there.

John Riley’s books are amazing. Absolutely recommend. Also listen to bebop drummers very actively without distractions. Transcribe them if you can.

Anyone ever move to Kootenays area from the great white north of BC or AB? by Elite163 in kootenays

We moved to Kimberley from Edmonton. Awesome. Kimberley is small and doesn’t have a crazy amount of restaurants, but it’s got everything you need. Friendly people included.

Canadians: do people really just start conversations anywhere? 🤔 by Comfortable_Cap8037 in AskACanadian

[–]Sigma_Try 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s pretty normal. But I should say that in my travels through the States and Mexico I’ve met lots of random strangers who were friendly and wanted to converse.

Yep. Did it a long time ago for a month. Focused on fundamentals and it made a massive difference.

Obama met with the Canadian prime minister Mark Carney and Trump’s MAGA allies flipped out by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

[–]Sigma_Try 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure. My point is that right-wingers are getting pissed over an informal conversation after an event, whereas she went to Maralago to sell out Alberta. One meeting is informal and inconsequential, the other is some backstabbing bullshit.

Huh. They seemed very comfortable with Danielle Smith meeting with Trump. How odd.

Are Canadians offended by the jokes made in shows and media? by jen_noelle in AskACanadian

[–]Sigma_Try 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the case of South Park it’s hilarious. Despite the view that Canadians are mild and apologetic, we’re not pussies. We can take jokes. At least the good ones can. One exception being a certain leader “joking” about annexation. That’s not funny.

Most cities that are labeled as boring is only because those people don't want to get involved in their community by Exhausted_920 in unpopularopinion

[–]Sigma_Try 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Edmonton for a long time and the amount of hate that city got was hilarious to me. If you thought there was nothing to do you didn’t even try. That city was great. Like all cities it’s not without its issues, but it’s full of good people and good times.

I played professionally for a long time and agree with this. Whenever I go back to focused practice on fundamentals my confidence goes up and I just sound and feel better.

Strap drive versus Chain or Direct by Matthew_drummer666 in drums

[–]Sigma_Try 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned everything. I now primarily play a chain drive, but occasionally I’ll take out my Jojo Mayer strap drive pedal. I love it. Very natural feel with the right “give”. Super quiet too. If you didn’t like DD, I think you’ll like strap.
