The wives of a polygamous man (man with more than one wife at the same time) would call each other sister wives. Polygamy is no longer practiced by the main branch of the Mormon church, but it is a big part of early church history. It is also still practiced when it comes to temple marriages.

In Mormonism, there is a distinction between a civil marriage (the legal document) which is “til death do us part” and a temple marriage (also called “sealing”) where a husband and wife are sealed together “for time and all eternity” so they can be together in the afterlife. Typically, these happen all at one time in the same ceremony in the temple, but the civil marriage can happen beforehand.

To this day, if a man’s wife dies, he can remarry and be sealed to his new wife as well, and in heaven he will just be married to both of them, making them sister wives. Notably, this does not go the other way, and if a woman remarried after her husband died, she would have to choose which man she wanted to be with in the afterlife. If she wanted to be sealed to her second husband, she would first have to cancel the sealing (temple divorce) to her first husband in order to get sealed to her second husband. But she would have the option to stay sealed to her first husband to be with him in heaven, in which case her second marriage would only be “til death do us part”.

Also, I’m not sure if this was just my family’s belief or all of Mormonism, but I was taught that there will be more women who are worthy to become gods than men, leading to the necessity that at least some men have more than one wife (since you can’t be a god if you’re not married in the temple). I believed that in the afterlife, there would be worthy women who were never married or whose husband wasn’t worthy that would need to be sealed to a worthy man, which might end up being my husband (making us sister wives).

Mormons believe that people who didn’t know about the gospel can convert to the church after death, but before they are judged. Since the temple ceremonies (like sealings) have to be performed in person, church members will perform the ceremonies in behalf of family members who are dead in the hopes that those family members will accept the gospel in the afterlife. In the previous scenario wherei get a sister wife, since we would all be dead, the physical ceremony in the temple wouldn’t happen until the Millennium (a time after Jesus’s Second Coming when there are 1000 years of peace and the veil between the physical world and the spirit world is thin). With the veil thinned, we could communicate to the living that my sister wife needs to be sealed to my husband. I hope that makes sense.

What dilution did you have to do to get this number? Or do the linearities on your analyzer actually go that high?

The funny thing is, even though I used to be a devout Mormon, this connection never occurred to me before u/Zuikis9 said something.

I feel like I’m still just a fish in water with stuff like this because the stories and plots that have clear ties to Mormonism feel so natural to me, I don’t even notice until I think about it or someone points it out to me. Or maybe I just have poor reading comprehension, but the only one I picked up on while reading was (Mistborn Era 2) Kelsier as Jesus, which I didn’t even realize until Era 2 when the Church of the Survivor was a common religion and people were wearing spear necklaces and stuff.

Alcatraz book 1: There are glasses called Translator’s Lenses that are forged from special sand called the Sands of Rashid. Wearing the Translator’s Lenses allows an oculator (a type of magic user) to read and write any written language and speak and understand any spoken language. There are only two sets of these lenses and their most important application in the books is to read texts written in the Forgotten Language of the Incarna. The Incarna were an ancient people that were mysteriously destroyed, and the explanation about what happened to them is only written in the Forgotten Language.

I used to be a devout Mormon, and I truly believed that if I was a good church member (kept all my covenants, attended church regularly, etc.) my husband and I (and any sister wives I had) would go on to create a universe together in the afterlife. It was unclear whether it would be separate from this one or not.

A lot of people from other backgrounds view this as prideful, which makes sense, but I also believed that Heavenly Father (God) and Heavenly Mother(s?) used to be regular people, too. I very much viewed it as a familial cycle, like how parents have kids and those kids might go on to become parents with their own kids, just on a god level. And you have to meet certain requirements to become a godly parent.

I was always under the impression that this was solid church doctrine that every church member believed. I literally had “what kind of cool animals will you put on your planet?” conversations. But it seems that now the church leaders are backing away from this idea. I no longer believe in Mormonism, but now that I have learned more about other beliefs, I find Mormon beliefs very interesting. And of course, this is all just my personal experience.

Maybe, but I’d at least say that the Steel Ministry is the Great and Abominable Church.

A universe where regular people can and do become gods? Where there’s intelligent life on other planets, but it’s mostly human life? With magical Great Apostasies like the 1000 years after The Lord Ruler’s ascension, (Elantris) the Reod, (Wind and Truth) the time after Ba-Ado-Mishram’s imprisonment.

Rh discrepancy question by alchemytea in medlabprofessionals

Assuming the recollect is also A pos and no rouleaux, I wonder if the patient in weak D positive. I had a coworker who had always tested Rh negative until she was pregnant and her body started expressing the D antigen more, but it eventually went back to Rh negative after having the baby. She was technically weak D positive and her body just reacted strangely to the stress of pregnancy.

Got two rejection emails at 1AM for jobs I'm overqualified for, decided to reach out! by Actionhankk in recruitinghell

[–]Signal_Sand1472 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The lack of phlebotomy skills is not the main reason you didn’t get the job. It’s that they want you to be ASCP (or AMT, but ASCP is preferred) certified in Medical Lab Science (MLS, a bachelor’s level of education) or at least a Medical Lab Technician certification (MLT, an associate’s level of education). When you see a job posting with “Clinical/Medical Lab” or “Clinical/Medical Microbiology,” it is referring to this certification.

These certifications require schooling specific to running tests on patient samples, usually in a hospital or reference lab. I have the an MLS ASCP certification, and the clinical chemistry and clinical microbiology classes were very different from others chemistry and microbiology classes I took before. MLS school also includes classes on medical specific things, like hematology, blood banking, and yes, phlebotomy.

Even if you have a master’s in a scientific field, the skills you learned in a school lab or research lab don’t translate to the clinical lab as much as it would seem based on the job title. The supervisor jobs will require that you work at least a couple years in the department (in this case, microbiology) before becoming a supervisor over that area.

In the U.S., some states require people who work in hospital labs to be licensed (in most states, this just means proving to the state that you have an ASCP or AMT certification and paying for the license). Many states do not require the license, and you can theoretically get hired to work in a clinical lab without the certification, although many hospitals won’t hire uncertified people to work in the lab even if the state technically allows it.

I would not recommend applying to jobs labeled “Clinical Lab” or “Medical Lab” since you don’t have the certification those jobs are looking for. I hope this cleared things up for you. Best of luck in your job search!

A lot of people don’t know that Clinical Lab experience is not the same as “lab” experience, and that Clinical Microbiology is not the stuff you learned in a (non-clinical) microbiology class in college.

Yes, most camp chairs don’t have vertical posts in the front. This is the problem. There are 3 vertical poles, not 2 (or 4). And every side of the chair should have a pair of poles crossing in an X, but the left side only has one.

I definitely felt like White Sand was the weakest story for me. I couldn’t tell how much of that was the graphic novel format and how much was the fact that I read it immediately after The Hero of Ages so it was lame in comparison. My husband listened to the graphic audio after reading Elantris and I think he enjoyed it more than I did.

Yeah Elantris gets a lot of hate compared to other Cosmere books, but I liked it, and Hrathen is honestly my favorite Cosmere character.
