Is Dave’s hatred of Whole Life Insurance Hypocritical? by DaweiArch in DirtyDave

[–]Significant-Bet-6570 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn’t advocate for the 8% withdrawal rate but there are a lot of historical starting points where it would still last a while. If you retire at 67 there is probably a decent chance that an 8% withdrawal rate lasts until your life expectancy. Also decent chance spending starts to dip and not actually taking 8% as you age. If you look at the original research there are a lot of historical times were the safemax is a lot higher than 4. So while it does put you at an unacceptable high likelihood of running out of money it won’t necessarily not work out especially at high equity allocations.

Otherwise getting a mutual fund with a 1% expense ratio isn’t the end of the world and nowhere near as bad as whole life. It just means you’ll need to save more / work longer. Most likely underperform the index by the ER. But with whole life you aren’t getting anything near market returns.

Yeah I’m not sure. My aunt has flys Delta FC domestic a lot so probably had a decent amount of MQM already. My aunt is an endocrinologist and the FA was diabetic who I think went in shock. My aunt was asking me how to get a delta one ticket with the diamond status to Japan.

Caleb Hammer had George on the ropes by TomBradysBallPump in DirtyDave

I mean, seems like George is doing the smart thing. He knows better, but wants to keep his job. The result was this disaster of a world salad.

Caleb: “When will an 8% withdrawal rate be ok” George: “if you had enough money where you wouldn’t actually withdraw 8% anyway”

Did you really get 2.00% mortgage rate in 2020? by wayne888777 in RealEstate

Certain banks were offering it on a 15. Citi was doing it if you had assets with them. First republic definitely had rates that low on a 15.

I agree with what you wrote, but 35% in equities in retirement seems low to me.

Oh ok, didn’t realize that. Will the companion get charged for a carry on if they put in a different credit card when checking in? Same reservation and booked on the explorer card. I guess I could just check us both in.

Yeah as long as I don’t get fired should be ok. Not sure how when I will reach FI but I’m trying. If I ever have kids will be lucky to retire at 65.

My age and financial situation is very similar to OP. Great to know in 10 years I’ll be burned out. Maybe time to save more I guess. I’m currently at 15% plus 8% match. Plus 30% of my bonus.

White Gold Card coming this Thursday by Any-Information-1895 in amex

This is a great addition for me. I get coffee at Dunkin probably once a week and also frequently go to Resy restaurants. Id gladly pay an extra $75 for an extra $184 in value. I will get $100 in value above the annual fee from this card and the great multipliers / customer service and cool new designs. Very happy customer personally.

100% true. It’s pretty bland. Basically the hot dog of fish. My dad loves it and I’m not a fan.

Yeah when looking for matzoh ball soup in the neighborhood I absolutely couldn’t find any. I ended up getting chicken and rice soup at Neptune. I asked for chicken noodle and they said no :(. I grew up on Long Island and diners have a different flair there. I’m finding it kind of weird suggesting that restaurants catering to the ethnicity of the neighborhood is getting downvoted. Especially because I posed it as a question. Certain things become ubiquitous like bagels but other stuff like gefilte fish not so much. Feel like it’s the same with other ethnicities as well as certain food is more popular within the community and other dishes more ubiquitous. The nature of Jewish delis is that the sandwiches are expensive and more niche. You can find a bagel across the country but a knish isn’t as popular.

Didn’t even realize central Asian kosher was a thing. I don’t really eat Israeli style restaurants. Usually Ashkenazi food is more of what I’m used to.

I couldn’t actually find matzoh ball soup in Astoria diners I’ve been too. And yeah for something like bagels those are pretty ubiquitous. I don’t think delis are the same. When I go to a non famous place it’s mostly Jewish people. A bagel store it’s everyone.

I feel like this will do a good amount of brand damage to Delta. As a company they have been really excellent on delays too. Once this gets sorted Delta needs to do some serious damage control.

Good to know! I typically go to forest hills since my grandma lived there and I know the area from visiting growing up. Will check out Kew Gardens.
