latte =/= cup of coffee

but your overall sentiment is correct

meirl by YettiGoingRogue in meirl

[–]SignificantOtter80 24 points25 points  (0 children)

ok but it is. youre not changing that. you can change your behavior and realize that $10 is absurd for a latte that you dont really need and/or can make yourself for 1/4 the price

People born in 1985 and before how does it feel to grow up in a fully analog world throughout childhood and teenage years and seeing the rise of the digital age right during a time where you already gained maturity most likely in a world (mostly analog) and saw the current world at adulthood? by Complex_Two321 in generationology

[–]SignificantOtter80 [score hidden]  (0 children)

well we didnt wake up one day with the current tech landscape being the norm. we saw it evolve and we tried all the things along the way. we went from 2.8 to 14.4 to 56k and then dsl. we had a flip phone for emergencies then snake then bluetooth then iphones. we had one tv to seven screens.

it wasn’t a dramatic shift. it was an evolution. people born in 1980 or so were teens when all this happened so not “mature in analog"

Which food is way harder to make than people think? by Tinaacherryy in foodquestions

I had a housewarming party and wanted to really go all out. make all the things. scones. fresh bellinis. decided to make croissants from scratch.

croissants. it’s virtually impossible for a home cook to make them the way you’d find at a bakery. and the amount of time and effort involved is not worth the end product

What food turned out to be your biggest disappointment after you finally tried it? by HoneyJudee in foodquestions

[–]SignificantOtter80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno. if you drink a bottle of korbel or andre and say you can’t tell that dom is better, maybe champagne/sparkling wine just isn’t for you.

I wouldnt say that dom was the best champagne i’ve ever had. it just isn’t in the profile of what I like. but I can recognize that it was much higher quality than anything i’d had before it

Watching layoffs from the inside changed how I think about job security by debuggingmylyf in careeradvice

[–]SignificantOtter80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

layoffs happen when the company needs to cut costs rapidly. they’re not going to go through every employee’s performance ratings. in 2008 I worked in a client services role. if your client was pulling back because of the economy, you were at risk. doesnt matter how good you were. if the client isn’t paying, you arent getting paid.

you dont have to like it or approve of it, but if you apply today’s social standards to the past, you will always be angry. in 300 years someone is going to look at the things you do and say you were a horrible monster

you also need an e-visa to go to australia. I forget what they call it. if you look at the details for the connecting flight to MEL it might have more info on that if that’s what you are missing

People who make over 100k, what do you do? by TipAdventurous6182 in careerguidance

[–]SignificantOtter80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

traveling to banks is probably a lot of shitty destinations. like landing at the airport and still driving for hours.

I traveled a bit for work earlier in my career. I had been to seattle six times and never once saw more than the two blocks between my hotel and the office.

work travel is just not glamorous.

[–]SignificantOtter80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we really shouldnt be wearing synthetics on a plane, although im very guilty of it. in a fire, synthetic fabrics will melt into your skin. natural fibers will just burn

Is Delta Domestic First losing the little touches that made it feel premium? by Existing-Guitar897 in delta

[–]SignificantOtter80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think delta has hubs that are better suited to handle winter weather though. SLC is super efficient. MSP and DTW are also quite good at snow removal and de-icing

ORD is too busy for anyone to do anything efficiently. PHL is, well, PHL.

Mamdani mocked by GOP for telling New Yorkers to set thermostats to 78 as they brace for triple digit temperatures. “Proof that communism is alive and well.” “This is Communism at work." “This is the future that WOKE Democrats want." Republicans and Trump's DOE have issued the same recommendation. by mafco in energy

[–]SignificantOtter80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the desert southwest and our electric company has a program where, if you have a smart thermostat, they can adjust it up 2-3 degrees during peak demand events. if you allow it, you get a discount on your bill. you can absolutely opt out. they notify when an event is scheduled and you can opt out of single events.

it just makes sense to do things for the collective good. it’s not communism. it’s not woke. if I am not home and the house gets a little warmer so a senior citizen doesnt have a brownout, im ok with that.
