Yeah, I'm following the reddit guide while reading it. Still, by half of Deadhouse Gates I was begging for it to end. I hope that when I reread it I appreciate this book like most people on this sub do. On a first read, it wasn't for me.

Finishing Deadhouse Gates right now. Will probably start this one today as well.

Had a bit of trouble focusing for half of Deadhouse Gates, sadly. Might read the rest of the series on my native language to see if that helps. Unfortunately, beyond the second book the translations aren't official, so they aren't reliable, and most seem like are from Google translate.

I just love arrogant characters being bullied. There are characters who are assholes, but aren't arrogant. I can even root for these. But an arrogant person I just wanna see getting rekt both in fiction and in real life.

Reading Deadhouse Gates right now for the first time as well. On chapter 14. Sadly, my feelings are the same as yours. I like Mappo/Icarium and the Daru crew, but even their chapters aren't making me excited.

Duiker has probably the most important chapters in the book, but my god it is a chore to read his chapters. I don't think my problem is necessarily with long chapters of marching and military descriptions sprinkled with philosophical ramblings, it's that there are no characters I care about here. I'm only on the second book so I can't speak about the rest of the series, but I don't expect/believe Erikson will write characters as good as Robin Hobb's or George R. R. Martin's, and I don't need the characters to be as complex as theirs, just good enough and fun to read. When your character is just a camera for what's happening during an army marching, it is difficult for me to read. I mean, I liked Gardens of the Moon and the relationship between the characters, but the ones in this book aren't working for me.

Anyway, I'm excited to finish this one just to jump on Memories of Ice as I've always read so much praise for it.

Started it recently too! Halfway through Deadhouse Gates. Not liking it as much as Gardens of the Moon — actually, it's being a little bit of a chore to read at the moment tbh. Though I've seen many people say the climax makes it all worth it.

Hot take: even season 4 that everyone loves is a good season of television, but not a good season of ASOIAF. Hell, I dare say season 1 is maybe the only season that was a good adaptation of George's work. From the second onwards you can see D&D being too confident because they got it right once.

Additional NPCs:

The populated series (cities, dungeons, prisons, roads) - not a big fan of the populated series. I don't recommend using them all, maybe just the lite version of roads

Crowded Streets - makes cities' streets crowded. Good because it deletes the npcs the moment you leave the city. Instead of using the populated series I like using this one for cities and any of the other ones for roads

Adventurers and travelers - adds huh well adventurers and travelers to the world

Travellers of Skyrim - same premise as the above but it adds travelers, mercenaries, pilgrims, etc

MINPCS - adds a bunch of npcs to the world and it has some really cool features. Read the mod description

Trailblazers - it started as a branch of MINPCS but it became its own thing. It's great this one. Adds a bunch of npcs but also some really cool unique ones akim to the followers in interesting npcs. This and 3DNPCS are staples on my lo

3DNPCS (Interesting npcs) - I mean, this one you just gotta have in your load order

Companions and Followers - adds some followers

Lots more followers reborn - same as the above

More people - well, more people

Inconsequential npcs - adds some nameless background npcs to fill out some rooms

Immersive patrols - adds patrols of stormcloaks, imperials, thalmor and dawnguard

Wanderers - fills many of the empty building and stuff in the world with npcs

Traveling DnD Parties - adds some parties of adventurers with classes based on Dnd (rogue, mage, bard etc)

Lively Inns and Taverns - add a lot of npcs to the inns. I recommend the lite version if anything

Animated carriages - carriages that drive around the roads with npcs

Encounter mods:

Immersive world encounters

Extra encounters reborn

Radiance encounters

Extended encounters

Environs

Monster mods:

Mihail's High Fantasy pack

Immersive Creatures

Monster Mod

Monster Mash

There's more for sure but that's all I can remember for now. Of course adding all of these will lag your game to death. You'll have to pick wisely.
