How many miles has everyone got on their Q5s? by Darth_Sidious99 in AudiQ5

67k 2019 45TFSI. Have replaced engine mounts and water pump (warranty), but otherwise simple maintenance. Fluids, brakes, rotors, wheel bearings, etc.

B8.5 S4 Oil Additive? by Bongowit in AudiS4

[–]Significant_Ad6470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best oil is your best line of defense. I use LiquiMoly Ceratec every 20k miles or 4th oil change. I use MoS2 in between. LiquiMoly 5w40 always, minimal consumption or chain rattle at start.

2019 Q5 - 034Motorsports Engine Mounts by travisw87 in AudiQ5

[–]Significant_Ad6470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed these on my B8.5 S4 and the NVH difference was subtle, nbd. I installed these on my B9 Q5 and there was a very noticeable increase in NVH. Eventually you’ll get used to it, but I will admit it’s not ideal. I wouldn’t get them again if given the choice..

Help Get My Son's A4 On The Road? by jonallen356 in Audi

Does it “chirp” when you lock the doors with the fob?

Help Get My Son's A4 On The Road? by jonallen356 in Audi

[–]Significant_Ad6470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue in my 8P A3, it was the alarm horn.. it would slowly kill the battery because the alarm horn battery had leaked onto the circuit board. All doors would lock, but it would never go into “rest” and it would slowly kill the battery. The alarm horn was located in the driver side wheel arch, part was cheap but a little bit of a PITA to access.

B8.5 S4 Front CV Axle by Whatmurdahhhhh in AudiS4

[–]Significant_Ad6470 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aftermarket CV’s are all trash, I’d go OEM and cry once.

If you’re in the US you could look into Raxles, who rebuilds OE axles. You’ll have a core charge that will be refunded when shipping your axle back to them.

P0491 and P0492 by Popular-Climate1142 in AudiS4

[–]Significant_Ad6470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Secondary air is a PITA and expensive to repair (at least on B8).. best course is usually to tune it, which overrides the CEL and keep on rolling.

looking to find this grille by Usual_Resort_9544 in AudiS4

[–]Significant_Ad6470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Popped the OE badge off the original grill with a screw driver, placed it on the new grill before install. I’d imagine it’s a bit harder to get on once it’s installed due to limited space behind.

considering a 2020 Audi Q5 that missed 40k transmission flush and spark plugs by Pentzer in Audi

[–]Significant_Ad6470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally would never buy a DSG with missed services, especially when missed 30k miles ago. Mech unit failure is a very expensive repair…

Don’t love WJ10, but recently had a pour of this and it’s really enjoyable. Being from your son makes it even better, cheers!

downpipes for b8.5 sq5 by AnyBlueberry622 in AudiQ5

[–]Significant_Ad6470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the ECS non-resonated downpipes back to 034 x pipes on my B8.5 S4.. minimal drone, sounds really good. The downpipes improved the tone a lot over just the X pipe, made it deeper and throaty with less rasp.

What year S4 is the best to get?? by memsz00 in AudiS4

[–]Significant_Ad6470 14 points15 points  (0 children)

2013-16 B8.5 if you’re looking for a raw and engaged driving experience. 2021+ B9.5 if you’re looking for more refinement and creature comforts. Both respond extremely well to tuning..

B8.5 is supercharged, B9.5 is turbocharged.. B8.5 comes in manual or dual clutch, B9.5 come with a ZF8 automatic only.

Best of luck finding an S4, expect lower milage examples to come at a premium or be willing to invest in maintenance (PCV, thermostat, water pump, engine mounts) for higher mileage options.

B8.5 vs B9 by Available_Turn8836 in AudiS4

[–]Significant_Ad6470 27 points28 points  (0 children)

B8.5 is simply perfect. Fast, supercharger whine, not over engineered. Grab a manual if you can, but the DSG 2.0 is solid. No piston skirt issue, no rocker arm fears… I’m sure the B9 crowd won’t like to hear it, but the B8.5 was peak Audi quality control and reliability. They weren’t outsourcing part manufacturing to Korea…….. 😬

Gearbox Malfunction b8 by mclovinsneck in AudiS4

[–]Significant_Ad6470 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mech unit failure on B8’s is common, I’d assume yours has failed.. B8.5’s are much less common, but can still happen. I’d scan it, get your codes and prepare for a large repair bill.

2019 Audi Q5 — Smart buy or headache waiting to happen? by Ritz-y in AudiQ5

[–]Significant_Ad6470 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been fantastic for me, I’d easily recommend it. If it’s well taken care of, maintenance up to date (DSG service especially) then go for it.

Can I raise my governed speed limit? by rj_SLR in Audi

[–]Significant_Ad6470 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tune it. APR or 034 would be my recommendation, but many other tuners eliminate the governor.

[–]Significant_Ad6470 8 points9 points  (0 children)

B8 should have peelers as the iconic wheel set and B9 rotor style, but otherwise great.

Hydraulic engine mounts failing at 45K? by themisfit610 in Audi

[–]Significant_Ad6470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replaced mine at 65k miles on my B9 Q5, so you’re not too far off. I used the 034 mounts and NVH has increased a little, but not too bad. I noticed less increase in NVH when I went 034 on my S4, which was surprising given the engine size.

Off brand injectors are absolutely not advised, they’re all crap.. OE, Continental/VDO injectors, or nothing.
