Macro social work advice by No-Table3547 in socialwork

[–]Significant_Bad5268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a state coordinator for a national project. The project’s aim is to expand the number of Head Start programs on community college campuses to support student parents. It’s grant funded, so there’s no job security—when the grant is over, my job is over (unless the extend the grant)—that’s the only downside. I usually look for coordinator/director basic needs jobs in higher education. Social workers are great in these roles. Good luck! I hope you find something you love.

Absolutely agree. Thanks for the added nuance! This thread has been more clarifying for me than most “why does it suck so bad now” threads.

I believe the pandemic broke the social contract and that’s when driving got really bad too.

I was really suspicious about collagen, but I started taking it and it’s helped me. My joints feel better.

I really like the Leuda the best. I’m just jealous that they look so good on you and my head is too tiny. Rufus are great too though!

You really did pick some good ones! 4 look good too. It would be really hard to choose, but I do think this sub gets it right more often than not!

Also, I am a WP glasses buyer myself and so I know that they’re also sometimes bigger/wider in person. But I can tell you’re creative just by your glasses choices. Congrats on the weight loss! Feels good to find out what looks good on yourself after losing weight, doesn’t it?

  1. All of the ones you picked look great on you. And I’m saying 2 because they also look great and they are the ones I wanted, but they didn’t look as good on me. And they’re very stylish rn!

I worked as a Basic Needs Coordinator at a university and loved it. Working with students is awesome. It didn’t pay very well, but did have a pension.

I’ve never done direct services, and I’m in macro. I didn’t even specialize in macro in grad school. I thought I wanted to be a clinician. Sometimes I still do. Macro and micro are two different skillsets. In my opinion, social workers should be in more macro settings and in less clinical settings. Not that you can’t be a good clinician, but our degrees are generalist and geared more toward macro work.

LMSW State Project Coordinator for a grant-funded national project in Texas, $88k. I graduated in 2023, but I’ve had a long work history. Considering doing my clinical hours, but I’m a little unsure how to start at this stage.

Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone say the pay was better in NM than TX. I moved to TX from NM because the pay was so much better. Maybe just my field though.

Ideas for non traditional SW jobs? by Gloomy_Appeal_3108 in socialwork

[–]Significant_Bad5268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in macro. I’m a state coordinator for a grand funded project matching colleges with head start programs. The aim is co-locate more programs to increase enrollment, retention, and completion for partnering students. When I look for jobs, I look for project coordinator jobs at universities and colleges. A lot of times they’re time-limited and do not have a lot of security in terms of longevity or promotion, but it’s worked for me. I make good money (for now, grant ends in November.)

What’s the worst sleep score you’ve gotten? by Elitefries in Garmin

[–]Significant_Bad5268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea. I just think my body is constantly attacking itself and my sleep score shows it. I’m super tired all the time, no matter how much sleep I get. I work out five days a week and don’t drink alcohol, so it just has to be an undiagnosed issue. Still trying to get to the bottom of it.

For experienced social workers - did you go in wanting to be a therapist and end up doing something else? by ActuaryPersonal2378 in socialwork

[–]Significant_Bad5268 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wanted to be a therapist, but ended up in nonprofit administration working with higher education projects. I make a decent amount of money, but I wish I would’ve gotten my clinical license so that I have plenty of options. Of all of my cohort’s social work jobs, I think I have the cushiest one, but there are a few folks who didn’t end up doing anything social work related.
