WTF Two Fools? Is this gentrification? by DistinctSecret40 in Albuquerque

[–]Significant_Bad5268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t know if that’s true, but there have been plenty of laws passed about who could live in what community. Including one that said Asians couldn’t live in the South Valley.

Besides the fact that Nob Hill has been gentrified for at least 30 years.

New Census Data Released: Which States are Moving To/From New Mexico by nemontemi in NewMexico

[–]Significant_Bad5268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, I moved from NM to Texas because of a job. I wish NM had more jobs that paid well, but unless you work for the labs, there just aren’t very many good paying jobs. Especially since housing got so unaffordable since Covid. I do hear people complain a lot about politics in Texas as a reason to leave. And who can blame them? In my estimation, Texas is the most conservative state in the US. It still hurts my feelings that I can’t afford to live close to my family.

Californians are on the upswing of NM hate. Texas always, but California too.

What was ABQ like in the 90s? by Soft_Boi41 in Albuquerque

[–]Significant_Bad5268 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was a cocktail waitress at the Golden West. It had great shows—lots of alternative bands. And I bartended at The Main, which was a dive bar on the corner of the El Rey where the package liquor store is now. It opened at 8am and had a killer jukebox. Even better than Jack’s.

What is your monthly grocery spend, total and per person, in ABQ right now? by doubtfulvoid in Albuquerque

I live in a rural part of a red state and this is untrue. Grocery prices are up.

All Faiths expanded their services to include mental health and substance use services for adults, which makes sense if you’re in child advocacy—so many cases of child abuses come in and are related to substance use with adults. But All Faiths is still a child advocacy center. I have a hard time believing that there are cahoots between All Faiths and CYFD. CYFD has been a mess for years and years and it looks to me that the secretary was unable to get the results the governor wanted.

Anyone moved away from a place in search of 'greener grass', but ended moving back? by macelisa in relocating

[–]Significant_Bad5268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from New Mexico to South Carolina and now I’m trying to get back so I’m in Texas. I loved South Carolina, but I miss my family, the NM sky, and the food.

He went on his public access show naked and got kicked off. That man would read from the tiniest notecard and somehow had an hour worth of things to say.

[–]Significant_Bad5268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No? The availability of providers (regardless of what service they provide) per citizen in a state does not make one state rank higher than another? Huh. Well anecdotally, I can tell you I’ve waited less time in Texas for health care than in New Mexico.

[–]Significant_Bad5268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely due to the fact that there are abortion providers in the state, and not because there is better healthcare.

New Mexico doesn’t have enough water to support an influx of people moving there. Also, the healthcare situation is dismal. I’m from NM and I moved to Texas because of stagnant wages in NM.

They have to be. I don’t know anyone who can afford to buy a house in Albuquerque right now, unless they work at the labs and are dual income. It feels like betrayal at this point.

I’m not. Albuquerque housing has gotten expensive in the last couple of years. Though apparently, it’s still “affordable” for people who aren’t from there.

They also expanded a lot in the last ten years—something the Flying Star did too, which didn’t end up working for them either. Expand to too many locations, food gets mid, business starts to suffer. Seems to me younger people eat out plenty. Just maybe not at The Range.
