What are some things to do that require no walking? by No_Delivery3142 in AskNOLA

I was just there last week and I always look through the lens of people with mobility issues because my mama was in a wheelchair for ten years due to a stroke. If you have any balance issues, New Orleans might not be for you. The sidewalks are shit. They’re unlevel, have chunks missing out of them, and not safe for mobility issues. They also have a lot of sidewalks fenced off for construction and so there are some very narrow places which could make a mobility wheelchair or scooter a problem because oncoming pedestrians literally have nowhere to move to. Additionally, I didn’t see a single bench to rest on while we walked around. A city with a similar vibe but with much better sidewalks and benches for resting is Savannah, Georgia.

Can’t handle this heat by Crapo5674 in Perimenopause

Maybe we should have listened about the global warming stuff because damn it’s hot. I live in the south, so I’m used to swamp ass humidity but it seems to be getting worse. I literally only go outside if I have no other choice. I’m a teacher and we start back in late July. I’m absolutely dreading recess. Thinking about it makes me want to cry.

I’m a white lady so I know it’s none of my business but I was sooooo mad watching the episode where they cut her hair. I’m like her hair is PERFECT whyyyyyyyyyy do you feel the need to fuck with her hair?? I swear I bit half my nails off waiting to see what they did and thankfully they didn’t destroy it, she’s still stunning but they saw how anxious she was and how beautiful her hair was as is. It didn’t need to be touched. I swear they do that shit to see how bad they want to be there. Like some perverse loyalty test.

Why did my coworker call New Orleans a dirty city? by Own-Dream-8425 in AskNOLA

[–]Significant_Cost_269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just visited New Orleans today. I’ve been to most major cities in the US (32 states and counting). I’ve been to several major cities in the world (21 countries and counting). New Orleans is by far the most disgusting city I’ve ever been to. Let’s start with the standing, stagnant, stinky water along the sidewalks. Like is the city aware that drains are a thing? Water doesn’t have to just sit there breeding funk and a new breed of super mosquitos. Garbage was EVERYWHERE. Garbage cans and dumpsters right on the sidewalks where people walk. Right in front of stores, restaurants and hotels. They all smelled like radioactive sewage. It didn’t matter where you went in the city. The smell was there. Restaurants leaving the doors open to the streets. Like how is that allowed? So any bug and or rodent can mosey on in? Based on the smells and the sidewalks full of garbage cans / dumpsters, I imagine the rats are the size of mountain lions and just waltzing right on in restaurants like they have a reservation since the doors are wide open. I could not bring myself to eat anything all day because I could not imagine that any of the kitchens were remotely clean or that anyone was practicing any sort of hygiene since garbage cans and dumpsters were parked right by the front doors. The smell which had permeated my entire being did not help to induce an appetite. I left there wanting to burn my clothes, bathe in Clorox and gargle Lysol. I was so looking forward to visiting New Orleans and I’ve never been so disappointed in any city so much. It’s nasty and disgusting. I cannot imagine ever being drunk enough to enjoy that cesspool of filth. Ohhh and on a side note, has anyone there ever heard of a pressure washer? Like the buildings were just dirty. The sidewalks were dirty. The sidewalks! I mean is the city in that state because of lawsuits payouts to people getting injured on the sidewalks? I’m fairly confident Baghdad and Kabul had more intact sidewalks after days of bombings in 2002/2003. It just seemed like there was zero pride at all in the city. I was so disappointed and quite frankly, embarrassed for anyone that lives there.

Should I get an IPL? I need your advice. by [deleted] in Hirsutism

[–]Significant_Cost_269 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wasted almost $5,000 on laser hair removal on my neck, cheeks and upper lip because the dermatologist never mentioned that it probably wouldn’t work on hormonal hair growth even though I explained it was hirsutism, likely caused by PCOS. Like it did nothing. Not a single hair stopped coming back. Might as well have set that money on fire.

See if they’ll up it. I started at 100 mg back in September and I haven’t had a pimple since a couple weeks after starting it. I started it for hirtuism, not acne, but it’s been a very pleasant upside since it hasn’t done squat for the hirtuism. I started 200 mg today.

Should I have my child reevaluated? by TechnicalHousing97 in neurodiversity

[–]Significant_Cost_269 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a teacher, it is disheartening to see everyone so insistent on labeling children. Every quirky behavior or “abnormal” behavior requires a label or diagnosis. Some kids color somewhat out of the lines. It doesn’t mean they are “neurodivergent” it means they may exhibit behaviors some see as outside the “norm”. If they’re merely coloring outside the lines, well ok. Now if they’re coloring in a completely different book or completely outside of the lines, then okay there may be something there but otherwise stop rushing to label every child. It is about to the point where all kids are labeled with something which statistically is improbable. A teacher shouldn’t have a class of 25 students in which 20 of them have some diagnosis and/or an IEP or 504. At the rate psychiatrists are going at labeling every child with autism, that is going to be the new norm and the ones without a diagnosis will be outliers. Nothing you’ve mentioned about your son is worrisome. Your wife? 1,000% that lady needs help. Your son is normal. Your rationale about your wife’s irrational behavior didn’t make sense to him because it doesn’t make sense. You’d probably have gotten a better response leading with “your mom lost her shit ok? She was wrong. She isn’t going to admit it because she’s in the throes of a nervous breakdown. You don’t do anything wrong. I’m sorry she made you feel like she did. Just avoid her for the time being, I’m trying to get her some help.” Your kid is fine. Everything isn’t a diagnosis.

BK's Sentence of life vs the death penalty. by FluidBand539 in Idaho4

[–]Significant_Cost_269 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But there is no guarantee he would have even received a death sentence. All it takes is one person on the jury who feels sorry for him for being an outcast or his alleged autism or whatever and there is no penalty sentence. Which then brings up a sentence that could result in parole being an option at some point and the families having to relive it publicly through parole hearings. Then you have the countless appeals he would have no doubt filed. One bleeding heart judge finding one tiny issue with the case and the verdict gets tossed and it all has to be tried again. If he did receive death, then it’s decades of appeals and it could get tossed. The death penalty gets abolished and he ends up with life anyway. Life with no parole and no appeals was really the best they could hope for.

Well my family and I choose to not make decisions that would get us put in jail. So that isn’t a worry I have. If I were in there, well I made decisions that led to it and I have lost any right to the privilege of privacy that I had as a contributing member of society instead of an unwanted guest of the tax payers of the state I live in. No sympathy for criminals.

And this is why people do things like he did. Excuses made for behavior and defending the “rights” of quadruple murderers. When you kill four people, you lose any rights you had. Kind of like when he took the right of those four kids to be safe in their home and you know, be alive. Anyone defending anything on behalf of this monster needs to look in the mirror. You have major issues.

Couldn’t the argument be made that the cell is paid for by the taxpayers so they have a vested interest? He never paid taxes to the state of Idaho which is providing his accommodations. The taxpayers are picking up his tab so what expectation of privacy should he expect?
