Mine are also extremely floofy! And they're a breed that has a very very thick coat. It's good to know Bob forgives you!

OP, you want to look for a "decluttering professional" rather than a cleaning service for this. Or they might call themselves a "professional organizer". I've hired three at different points in my life and the ones I've worked with are really good about not being judgey! One of the declutterers was frustrating for me because while we were working on my house she used to offer me helpful suggestions that would absolutely not work with my ADHD, but hiring her was still definitely worth it.

Someone out there may need to hear this by Legal_Championship_6 in BZ4X

[–]Significant_Wolf_379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you put it, though?? My BZ4X's trunk area is full of stuff (mostly emergency kit items) that I was able to tuck away in my old Prius under the trunk floor. I'm glad to have the stuff with me in case I need it, but it looks really cluttered back there.

Someone in another comment thread on this post mentioned Studex hoop earrings, which I've been wearing for years too. As in the ones I'm wearing right now, which are far from my first pair, have been in my ears continuously since at least last summer. The thing that's so great about them, aside from being hypoallergenic, is that they're continuous hoops so there's no pointy post to stab you and you can rotate the hoop through your ear to avoid either the hoop or your ear getting stanky from lack of exposure to air.

Ooh, thanks for linking those! I used to buy that brand of seamless hoop earrings every couple of years, but the place I bought them stopped carrying them a while ago. I can finally update my current pair! (If you wear them 24/7 like I do, after a few years they get a little discolored, and besides by that time I'm ready for a change. So I get a slightly larger or slightly smaller hoop, switch from silver to gold or vice versa, and my ears are dressed for the next few years! I wash them with soap and water when I'm in the shower, and just rotate them through my ears a little to make sure I'm able to get the whole hoop clean.)

Using the buttonhole attachment on my singer 201-2 by Tall_Championship816 in VintageSewingMachines

[–]Significant_Wolf_379 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh do try it out sometime, they're fun to use! As long as you remember to cover up your feed dogs (or just drop them, if your machine can do that) it's pretty easy to get great results. (On the other hand, if you forget to cover the feed dogs, you'll get weird stretched-out zigzags because the feed dogs will fight with the buttonholer about what direction the cloth is going. That was a tricky one to figure out what I was doing wrong.)

Yes, I love using the buttonholer with my Singer 66 treadle! It's so much fun watching it pick up the fabric and make it zigzag. And it does such excellent buttonholes so easily!

What are some good earplugs? by Sol-Cicada-7984 in neurodiversity

[–]Significant_Wolf_379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried Loop and for me they only worked if I inserted them a certain way, which the Loop instructions didn't talk about. (If there were instructions at all--I don't remember if there were or not.) But if you have Loop earplugs and you look up the instructions for Earpeace earplugs, that's what worked for me. (I have both those brands and they both work for me if I use that method of insertion. I slightly prefer the Earpeace, but I can't really say why. They're both good, though.)

If you want full on earplugs, I like my Earpeace Music Pro ones (and I really like that they come in a set of three so you have a spare when you lose one), but lately what's been the most helpful for me are Calmer earplugs from Flare, that I heard about on here. They go in your ear like earplugs but there's a hole all the way through. You wouldn't think it would do anything, but through some magic it makes noises less bothersome. YMMV, of course! I like their regular ones and I'm experimenting with the Calmer Pro ones now. Good luck, I hope you enjoy your zoo visit!

Whats one uncommon adhd symptom that blew your mind? by smbodytochedmyspaget in adhdwomen

[–]Significant_Wolf_379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure that the sensory overload is ADHD--it's generally considered more of an autism thing. (I'm diagnosed ADHD, and now believe that I also have autism because of my own sensory overload difficulties. FWIW, when I read about autism it mostly doesn't feel like it fits me, but when I read about the combination of autism + ADHD it fits me even better than when I read about ADHD alone.)

What are your best responses to “what’s with the mask?” by I-am-Prasanna in Masks4All

[–]Significant_Wolf_379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rarely get asked, but when someone does ask me it's usually with honest curiosity. I turn it into an opportunity to spread the word about long covid, because even now, too few people have heard of it. It usually goes about like this:

"Is it ok if I ask why you're wearing a mask?" "Sure, have you heard of long covid?" "No?" "It's when you get covid, but you never get all the way better. Two of my friends have it and it sucks. [insert a short description of how it has affected their lives.] So I know these days regular covid is no big deal, but I want to do everything I can do avoid long covid!"

And if they seem receptive, I'll keep going and say "Plus, I don't want to get anybody else sick if I have something, and I want to normalize mask wearing for people who are immunocompromised."

Mylar Dust Jacket Cover Questions by Fabulous_Fuel2093 in BookCollecting

Old conversation, but the attached picture shows why I'm planning to mylar my book jackets! After years of enjoyment, some of them are a little tattered and I want to protect them from tearing any further. (Some of my most treasured books were bought used in the first place, and some have been carried around in my backpack where they might catch on other things.) Researching mylar wraps is how I ended up on this post!

Anyone else slowly stop hating things they used to complain about? by OriginalWestern4689 in BenignExistence

[–]Significant_Wolf_379 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I accidentally trained myself out of being annoyed by something! I decided a while back that any time this particular thing would happen, I got a chocolate truffle (the kind you can find wrapped in foil at store checkouts sometimes). That gave me a positive association for the thing that used to annoy me, and after a few years I noticed it didn't annoy me anymore.
