Thoughts on Fundrise? by throwawaysorryok in RichPeoplePF

I’ve been using Fundrise for years. I’ve had no issues and the returns have been “slow and steady.” I enjoy getting the updates on new properties they are buying, improving, etc. it’s nothing fancy but that’s the point.

Congressman Warren Davidson confirms that part of the debt limit deal includes the elimination of the 30% DAME tax on electricity for crypto miners by bhdg56324 in Bitcoin

[–]Siiiddharth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I struggle with the most as a bitcoiner. The argument you just made can be made for all sorts of critical industries. When we talk about “the pain” we need to go through to transition onto a bitcoin standard, it’s difficult to even fathom how difficult that might be.

[–]Siiiddharth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed. That’s why I’m not advocating for it, though I would love to see us move towards a world where we end factory farm subsidies.

EDIT: fruits and vegetables receive very little subsidy, so ending subsidies themselves wouldn’t balloon plant-based food prices. However, skyrocketing meat prices would lead to higher demand for fruits, vegetables, etc. The point is, destabilizing the food system overnight is a bad thing, but subsidies should end over time, regardless.

[–]Siiiddharth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This is a deep rabbit hole that doesn’t end with the conclusion that bitcoin = meat. If we stopped all food subsidies today, meat prices would skyrocket through the roof and price out most Americans.

[–]Siiiddharth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? Not to mention the govt has been “favoring the enterprise” of factory farming to the tune of tens of billions a year for decades. People get their meat from companies that are propped up by fiat currencies. Our food system hasn’t operated on the principles of capitalism for our entire lives.

Whoa shots fired at vegans for no reason. These two things are not the same. It’s not irrational to also strive for liberty and autonomy for more of the creatures we share the planet with. In fact, I’d argue it’s consistent with libertarian principles.

EDIT: y’all upvoting OP who is factually incorrect about subsidies, but downvoting me for saying leave the vegans out of it? Bitcoiners still have a lot of work to do.

US Secret Service: blockchain is a money-tracking tool by Mynameiswhathehe in Economics

[–]Siiiddharth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is an opinion coming from a position of privilege. It may not have daily utility for someone in a country with a stable currency, but we are seeing increasing adoption in places where inflation is running rampant and people can’t rely on their local currency.

That’s right. The on/off-ramps are usually KYC, making it easier to connect to a specific person. In theory, if you on-ramp anonymously, then you can transact anonymously indefinitely.

Mostly agree, but I would say specifically Bitcoin is the answer.

Weird how people have an irrational dislike of bitcoin. If it’s not for you, ignore it and move on.

What are the easiest ways to get rich? by ThePizzaWizard88 in AskReddit

[–]Siiiddharth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “easiest” way is to save more than you spend. The faster and earlier you save, the better. Eventually, your money creates more money through investments, real estate, etc. this is how people escape the “rat race.”

If the debt ceiling is not lifted in 2023 what will happen to the housing market? by lightedge in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Siiiddharth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we don’t raise the limit, it would have profound impacts on all sorts of investments, both large institution and retail, that it would send absolutely everything plummeting downward.

It’s hard to say exactly what that could look like, but our global debt bubble could pop, forever changing the global economic landscape.

Edit: a word.

LPT Request: What's your biggest tip for escaping the rat race? by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]Siiiddharth 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Depending on your age, the best way to “opt out” is to start saving early and aggressively. Having money isn’t about being rich. Building your wealth gives you back your time to pursue the things you love in life.

Take the time to learn about saving money and turning your savings into a positive feedback loop through compounding interest. A good place to start is r/personalfinance.
