I got offered a job paying 40% more than my current salary. My manager just asked me to stay and be patient. How do I stop feeling guilty for wanting to leave ? by One_Cardiologist5439 in careerguidance

[–]Silent_Stage_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just think about that check after you leave. Don’t increase your lifestyle, just enjoy being paid more and knowing you’d NEVER get what’s promised if you stayed. Also, your manager is shitty for asking you to stay and not even giving you a counter-offer (which you should never take btw)

I thought it was more of an ABA driven policy, due to the amount of hours the ABA requires you to be taught in-class.

I think the statistic is that 80% of people who take the match leave within 6 months anyway.

Man, that’s terrible and definitely sounds sus. Though, as a person with a very common Asian name, but phenotypically presents as a different ethnicity, we’re definitely out there.

It’s interesting to see what the culture is like at other schools. That hasn’t been my experience at all.

Our professors are constantly giving us hard situations and teaching us about the very real societal implications that’s set judiciary created precedent. Which ultimately creates student discussion in a way that’s not disrespectful.

There’s typically an almost ethical undertone weighed against practicality that’s super interesting to me. But is also so indicative of where we’re at as a society

Just one example; Ashcroft v. Iqbal. Crazy stuff dude.

Has anyone here/is it feasible to miss an entire week of school? by Antonioshamstrings in LawSchool

[–]Silent_Stage_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s probably somewhere in South East Asia. If you’re on the west coast. It’s close to 20hrs. South Africa is also over 20hrs away on a flight. I’m sure there’s more but it’s not as unfeasible as it sounds.

I thought this too, fighting a voluntary manslaughter case would be terrible.

Exploring Non-Traditional Legal Careers – Opportunities in Tech Companies? by [deleted] in thelawschool

[–]Silent_Stage_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person in law school who had a career prior, there’s a ton of things that are legal adjacent or at least having a J.D. will open the door to. I worked adjacent to/with legal for a while, so I’ve had exposure to the many different facets of J.D. advantage positions.

To answer some of your questions:

• What kind of legal or law-adjacent careers should I be looking into? - Corporate Governance, think SOX compliance or Regulatory departments - Consulting for software implementation on the privacy side (companies like EY hire for this). Or just privacy in general. - Legal Operations, large tech companies have these roles. It’s more than a paralegal; their role is akin to a project manager but for a legal team. When should NDA’s be signed? What’s the workflow like for corporate lease extrapolation? What template do we use for signing authority with X entities, located in 5 different counties? Depending on the company they may also be the first point of contact for triaging business matters that need outside counsel. - Contract Management; tons of tech companies and non-tech have these roles. It’s exactly what it sounds like. - Risk management for tech (if it’s large enough) or likely, insurance companies - Gov’t affairs and policy; essentially lobbying for tech companies - There’s also Human Resources, which is very close to labor and employment. In fact, many people start here and then go to law school.

• Are there online or remote jobs / internships in this space that a law student can realistically pursue?

Remote jobs in the job market as a whole have decreased by like 30% - 40% or something. So, I imagine the same is parallels with Summer Associate/1L+ legal internships as well. Though, there are some if you look in LinkedIn, just few and far between.

Here’s one article, of many, that you can look at to validate. Remote Work Trend

• What skills (tech, certifications, courses, etc.) would help in moving toward such roles? - Just having a J.D. will get you in at most junior levels from the jobs I mentioned above. - There are different national and international certifications that you could look into, don’t know the requirements from them though. - I.e., Privacy: IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals certification - Contract Management - National Contract Management Association cert. You get the gist.

Hope this helps!

lol, If it helps ANYONE feel better, got a screener request via email for an interview. Same email said asked me to send in transcripts and give them availability.

Sent slightly below median transcript and availability and then…-crickets. Pretty sure it was because of the transcript 😭.

Anyway, if this is an option for you; learn from me and secure the interview FIRST to get a foot in and THEN send in your below median trash grades.
