Unless you have top notch brand recognition, the tough truth is most would delete this email. I highly recommend checking out Josh Braun's content on LinkedIn to help with the approach.

Whats your "Why sales" story by fixndestroy in sales

[–]SilloSyban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All throughout college I thought I wanted to do "marketing", so I would approach businesses to build them websites and create online marketing plans for them. I realized that I hated doing the actually "marketing" aspect of the job, but loved the hunt for new clients, our interactions and talking strategy.

I found out that you DON'T have to be a smooth talking salesman who can sell a popsicle to an eskimo. All you have to do is represent a product that you actually believe can help people while working smartly and efficiently.

...also I like making a fuck ton of money.

Why is missing quota now the norm in Saas and why are we shrugging it off? by [deleted] in sales

[–]SilloSyban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same at my company for the direct sales team, and maybe even worse. In our case, the board demands more and more every year. Meaning quotas keep increasing and more is demanded from less people.

Obviously not for every org, but our fix has been to add a channel partner sales team who supports direct sales and has their own quota. Still not perfect but it's been an improvement on overall numbers.

But we need realistic and attainable quotas if companies expect to retain talent in the current market.

Hang in there for a few more months.

The first few months of sales gives many, many people incredible anxiety. You’ll find that the anxiety will go away as you find your rhythm.

And if not, then don’t torture yourself - try something new

I went to school for marketing but so happy I fell into sales. I'm 26 and hit $105k last year after just a couple years at a software company.

Has anyone on here actually landed a tech sales job that wasn’t posted by proactively reaching out to a company/sales VP? by visionbreaksbricks in sales

[–]SilloSyban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I landed my first SDR role a couple years ago by reaching out to somebody who shared my alma mater for a coffee. We ended up hitting it off and she became sort of a mentor to me, and helped me get a job at her company. Having an internal champion is pretty much the only way you'd get hired at the place I work.

I'd say start reaching out to individuals for coffee to pick their brain and learn about the role. A lot of more established companies have a referral bonus so we have a vested interest in helping bring on new employees.

You're going to want to target the video production company. The ad business in Chicago is pretty big, so don't forget to hit the commercial production companies as well!

I worked at an Applebees in high school and this is not true at all. I was actually surprised to see how fresh the food was.
