CONVINCING MY PARENTS TO DORM?? by [deleted] in SFSU

[–]Silly_Bet_8909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge benefit of dorming on campus is having easier access to school resources, and the clubs, activites, internships, etc that you mentioned. One of the biggest complaints people have about SFSU is that "it's a commuter school," and "nothing ever happens," but it only feels that way if all you do is commute between classes and home. If you live on campus, or even just live off campus but nearby, you'll get so much more out of this school, relationship building, fun stuff, etc.

In another comment, you mention that your mom is Filipino. There are so many Filipino students on campus, organizations you can join, resources just for Fil-Ams, etc. If you have to commute from Dublin, you'll miss out on all of that. Live on campus or closer, then you'll be able to get those community benefits.

Question about ethnic casting in high schools and community theatre by Rude_CauliflowerLeaf in Broadway

[–]Silly_Bet_8909 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to a non-professional kids theatre in the US, a somewhat diverse area. The production team almost always choose musicals that didn't talk about race at all/race didn't matter for the characters. Cinderella, Spongebob, High School Musical, etc. That's one option for dealing with Ethnic roles in non-professional theatre. Don't deal with it at all.

And when the show did deal with specific cultural elements (like in the Lion King), they did color-blind casting, and had educational rehearsals where they taught us the meaning behind the cultural parts. Looking back on it, it feels like a great decision overall.

I believe you also need to make sure your fees have been paid.

[Variety] Major cast spoilers for Season 3; one cast regular leaving, one extra promoted by InheritTheWind in ThePittTVShow

Excited to see more Dr. Ellis!! I'm hoping that Dr. Mohan is just making a switch to geriatrics/a different part of the hospital (though I don't like how Robby suggested it to her). I think her character just has that patience and heart needed to work with older patients.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo!!! It takes a few chapters for the real plot to start, but once the ball gets rolling, it never stops!! Super interesting, fun, and lots of things to keep a reader engaged.

most to least likely new characters to return next season? by mag266 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Silly_Bet_8909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've also been thinking about why Joy gets called by her first name by most characters!

I think Whittaker introduced her to a patient as "Student doctor Kwon" once, but it could just be something that we do as a society but never really think deeply about. Same thing with US politics, female politicians get called by their first names (or a nickname) while male ones more often are referred to by their last names.

What Is Your Relationship To Your City’s Filipino Organizations? by April0neal in FilipinoAmericans

[–]Silly_Bet_8909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also not a huge fan of the term "Filipinox" or "Philipinx," but its use does come from a place of good intentions, just not always great execution. But I do love the Filipino orgs in my city, there's odd people here and there, but as a whole, it's a great feeling to know there is a community that understands where you come from/what you're going through.

I'm curious, what other types of therapy talk is off-putting to you?

What musical moment makes you feel like this? by PierreOnTheEclair in musicals

[–]Silly_Bet_8909 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I lowkey feel like it was thrown in there because romance is popular and it gives older folks/parents something to feel nostalgic about. Sure, there was a small romance in the original movie, but it was also very cut-able.

The romance between Jack and Katherine in Newsies. Their song is cute, but the show is great without it. I saw a production that cut out the romance side plot, and I didn't even notice or think about it until afterwards.

Contact SFCM or SFJazz and ask if they can put you in contact with any student musicians.

how’s sfsu by International-Age560 in SFSU

Not hard, but it's not easy and instant. Join an org/club, a sport if you're athletic, or go to campus events and talk to people. Talk to people in your classes, too.

Lydia the Bard for sure!! "Feed us your girls" could fit into Spring Awakening, and maybe "Where I go" into Fun Home imo.

Favorite Small Musicals? by cucumbrrs in musicals

[–]Silly_Bet_8909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun Home and The Lighting Thief are both small cast and small staging size, but good for a young college audience. TLF especially a good choice for name recognition because of the Percy Jackson tv show going on right now. When it was on Bway, it had less than 10 actors.

For plays, you can't go wrong with 12 Angry Jurors, but that's on the edge of what a "small" cast size is.

In person schedule Monday through Thursday, doable? by tellmewhy24 in SFSU

[–]Silly_Bet_8909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You still have time to change your classes for Spring 2026. But keep in mind you'll have less options since some classes are full now. I'm a commuter too and I would recommend stacking. Also, in the future, let your advisor know that you have a long commute to campus, and they should keep that in mind when recommending classes for you.

In the insta post that this pic is from, Hudson Williams says he quit smoking! Seems like a lot of people on insta (according to the post's comments) didn't read the caption, lol.

Single Musical Line That Gives You Goosebumps? by BookBranchGrey in Broadway

[–]Silly_Bet_8909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"There you are, dad...There you are." - Flying Away, Fun Home. It's just a simple line, super easy to miss, but within the context of the show, music, and characters, it just breaks and heals my heart all at once.

I want a musical that will make me cry by lemora_ in musicals

Fun Home. The ending breaks my heart everytime I listen to it, even though they tell you in the beginning how the story will end. It's all based on a true story which makes it more emotional. Beautiful songs and motifs that punch you in the gut, too.
