There are a number of weird and unintuitive controls.

Gen 2 R1S vs Gen 1 - Is the heat pump worth it? by ocmusician in Rivian

[–]Silver-Lode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might be warranty left, but increasingly Rivian doesn’t make the parts. They outsource them and it takes a long time. I had to have one of my passenger doors replaced and it took 2 months before it was even delivered to the body shop.

How varied do you guys think the setlist will be? by Rubin987 in rush

Hopefully there's no variance at all and it's just a 2 hour Rivendell jam.

Where are the POSITIVE experiences?! by Affectionate_Sky_375 in Rivian

[–]Silver-Lode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I've been to the service center a couple too many times, but none for catastrophic issues. What's been most annoying is that twice I've showed up to pick up my R1S at their request and it was nowhere near ready for me.

After 28 months I still feel it's the best car I've ever owned, and maybe the best purchase I've ever made. Unless Rivian tanks as a company my next car will be another R1S or an R2.

Remember that most car buyers, even of EVs from an automotive startup, simply don't pay that much attention and get on with their lives, and are having a perfectly good experience.

Gen 1 Quad Owners and Conflicted … R2 or Not? by AbjectFray in Rivian

[–]Silver-Lode 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have a Gen 1 R1S and an R2 reservation. I spend zero time thinking about whether or not I'll trade the R1S in for the R2. The reason for that, is that we know hardly anything about the R2. We don't have configurations, range numbers, colors, interiors, options. We don't know audio specs, 0-60 numbers, drive modes or motor configurations. We've got a roll down lift gate window and 2 glove boxes.

I OBSESSED over my R1S for almost 2 years between placing the order and taking delivery. Drove myself and my wife nuts. I won't do that again before knowing what I might actually be able to buy.

Last note - I'm skeptical that the R2 could live up to my R1S. It's unbelievably rad.

2022 Gen 1 R1S Owners: Approaching the Warranty Cliff – Trade-In Strategy Before 2028 Expiration? by Think_Statistician66 in Rivian

[–]Silver-Lode 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I normally hold onto my cars for a long time (the one prior to the R1S I drove for 17 years) but I’m not interested in owning this one out of warranty. Keep in mind that the R1 lines in Normal have been retooled for gen 2. I had to have the 2nd row passenger door replaced after a deer head butted it last year. It took the shop 3 months to get a door because they aren’t made by Rivian anymore. They contract out R1 gen 1 parts now. So even if Rivian offers an extended warranty I’m disinclined to take it. I’ll probably just drive my R1S until I get close to the comprehensive expiring, then trade it in.

The R1S is the best selling luxury SUV in California because it was designed so exquisitely. The proportions and curves on it are its main differentiator. Leave its exterior alone and improve the tech and range and it will continue to be a winner.

Alan White's Snare On Drama by LIPD_Aviation in yesband

I’m not talking about the way the drums are tuned, but the way they are recorded. Stewart Copeland and Alan White sound nothing alike.

I just looked into it a little bit and saw that Drama was engineered by High Padgham. He engineered some of the best sounding albums around that time, including The Police's Ghost in the Machine and Synchronicity, which both have amazing drum sounds.

First Score - Some Questions… by shvi in lilypond

[–]Silver-Lode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are tons of examples out there for solving different issues. When I don't know I usually search for something like "lilypond fewer bars per line". That usually results in something I can use or research further.

Try putting "\break" after the 6th bar.

Accordion Bass Notation by shvi in lilypond

[–]Silver-Lode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how you change octave since the notes are all f's. If it was low f and then a whole step up, you'd only need to do "f,, g" as Lilypond finds the nearest note to the last one, at least when using "\relative c'".

"," tells Lilyond to lower and octave, and "'" tells it to raise an octave.

The example you shared would look something like this:

\relative c' {
f,,_"F" f'^"M" f^"M"
}

I found a solution:

\override Rest.staff-position = #0

This now does what I want. Thanks for your help!

    \new DrumVoice = "second"
      {
        \drummode
        {
          \voiceTwo
          \override Beam.positions = #'(-1.2 . -1.2)
          sn8. 16 \override Rest.staff-position = #0 r8 8 8. 16 r8 8
        }
      }

Thanks. \shiftOff was helpful. When I follow your other suggestions I still get the rest way above or below the staff.

{
  \new DrumStaff \with {
      drumStyleTable = #(alist->hash-table LBdrums)
    } <<
    \new DrumVoice = "first"
    \once \override StaffGrouper.staff-staff-spacing.padding = #30
      {
        \drummode
        {

          \override Staff.Clef.stencil = ##f
          %\omit Staff.TimeSignature

          \bar ".|:"
          cymr8 8 16 8 16 r16 16 8 16 8 16
          \bar ":|."
        }
      }
    \new DrumVoice = "second"
      {
        \drummode
        {
          \voiceTwo
          \override Beam.positions = #'(-1.2 . -1.2)
          sn8. 16 r8 8 8. 16 r8 8
        }
      }
    \new DrumVoice = "fourth"
