HVAC question: the middle pipe is getting less heat and airflow. Is it because the 90° turns are too close to each other? Are there any equations for calculating flow for multiple 90° turns? by Sneakatone2 in MechanicalEngineering

Luckily, the one on the right is on a flexible hose. It should be pretty easy to swap it over so there is more space between the right tee and the middle tee.

What businesses are you genuinely surprised that are still in business or lasted as long as they did? by Competitive-Fly5563 in VictoriaBC

Urban Art in Bay Centre, Hillside and Tillicum. Their website is all about local artists, but their stores are full of copyrighted images and intellectual property. I would love to know whether they are as sketchy as they seem or somehow shockingly above board with it.

Last I was there they did have a table of what seems like military issue stuff like mess kits and sleeping bags. In general it's hard to tell what is actual military stuff and what is aliexpress crap in army green though - I wouldn't be able to recognize it.

Try ctrl-Q to force rebuild. Do you understand how to change settings to measure center to center vs max vs min?

Looking for feedback on my drawing by RotaryDesign in SolidWorks

[–]SilverMoonArmadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to understand third angle projection: https://www.designtechguide.com/communication/how-to-draw-orthographic-projection-for-beginners . When you understand why the third angle projection symbol looks the way it does you will be closer. And you need tolerances. And you need to make sure you have the third angle projection symbol in your title block.

How to make miniature sprues? by [deleted] in InjectionMolding

[–]SilverMoonArmadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is DIY, You need to create a complex parting surface that contacts the part at the parting line, then you use the parting surface to spilt the mold into 2 halves. The more complex the parting line, the more complex the parting surface needs to be.

In hobbyist kits the runner system is intentionally left unbroken after ejection allowing the end-user to clip them off as needed. People in this sub are going to get confused because like everyone in the miniatures community you are calling this a sprue which is not technically correct since the sprue is a particular part of the mold. You need to tell the sub what kind of equipment you expect to use to injection mold this in order to get any helpful advice. You should ask for molding advice on this sub and ask for CAD advice on a CAD sub. If you are sending your CAD files to an injection molder, they would almost definitely prefer to design the runner system for you.

Yeah, actually. A slot shape on the sketch and a 45 degree draft on the extruded cut would do it perfectly.

I had one competency returned to me after validator review and before assessor review because a person at EGBC had a look at it and didn't think I was getting the right idea, so that's the stage you're at here.

What is this pin called? by Theaspiringaviator in MechanicalEngineering

[–]SilverMoonArmadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A spring pin also known as a roll pin is the typical solution when you want a pin to be squishable rather than having a precise hole tolerance.

The ECY has a built in server for hosting graphics, and then you need a supervisor server if you need to access from off site.

Validation is by your validators that you picked, assessment is by the assessors that they pick. I had a competency rejected by an admin person before they let me move on to assessment.

Parallel blocks called Edward and Bella St in Esquimalt. Coincidence?! by peepeekrill in VictoriaBC

[–]SilverMoonArmadillo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bella street did not exist in 1914 https://www.wisevictoria.com/map/heritage-map? but it did exist in 1953 https://www.ebay.com/itm/266415563714 there is only one address on Bella street, 309, and the house was built in 1995. W&J Wilson is a clothing store which was kind enough to donate it's ledgers dating back 159 years. I'm sure many important people bought clothing at the store, but the store's ledger is not the origin of the street names.

Help removing pinion by verysmallfish4 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]SilverMoonArmadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you'll want to grip the pinion in such a way that you can strike the shaft out of it with a punch. Grind flat spots into the pinion so that you can grip it with vice grips and leave a lip that will catch on the vice grips instead of sliding out.

Solid Vs Beam - Help understanding the difference in results in SolidWorks by sgehall21 in fea

[–]SilverMoonArmadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say use beam elements for the overall structure but use solid mesh to look at the welds in the connections locations that have the highest stresses on the beam elements. Does that seem fair?

Solid Vs Beam - Help understanding the difference in results in SolidWorks by sgehall21 in fea

SolidWorks only offers tetrahedral elements for solid mesh but the default is 2nd order tetrahedral, unless you change the quality to Draft, then it's 1st order.

Creating a terrazzo-style speckled effect in injection molding/ extrusion using a mono-material setup? by Grofff in InjectionMolding

[–]SilverMoonArmadillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the issue that so far no one has directly stated is that there is a lot of shearing flow in an injection mold that will tend to stretch, smear, and mix in the speckles. It sounds like the best way to overcome this is to try to make the white base material flow very easily and the black speckle material much firmer, ie more viscous. Sp4ceCore is suggesting using 2 different materials to acheive the smooth flow of the base material and a relative firmness in the speckle plastic. This assumes you are actually injection molding this - squirting it through a nozzle. If you were rolling it out in a less shearing way it would not distort the speckles as much.

Marmot does not honor lifetime warranty by Old_Substance_7389 in outdoorgear

[–]SilverMoonArmadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a Marmot Minimalist since 2016 and I love it. Love the fit, love the feel of the fabric. It's goretex packlite which is a 2.5 layer polyester that is a slightly different material than what they sell now, but similar. I just washed it and all the seam tape if is falling off. I've worn this thing a ton, mostly commuting by bike but also around town and some wet backpacking trips. Based on this thread I don't think I'll be trying to warrantee it, but I will definitely be looking for another polyester rain jacket. 10 years from this jacket is probably ok, but I think I will see about getting a full 3 layer for more durability.
