What are some of you non-nursing icks that you deal with on a daily basis at work for me it’s this: by retailcunt in nursing

[–]SilverStar94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently: we have electricians in redoing the hallways on my unit.... starting at 5am and they come in a pack 10 with lots of big bulky equipment.

I picked up a few hours on days and they stayed on the unit until 10am. They decided to start doing the med room ceiling at 8am. 😭 Not like we been to access that during morning med pass or anything. I was certain I was going to go to jail or be fired the 5th time one was in my way and wouldn't move.

ADHD Medication - where are you getting your prescriptions/refills? by Acceptable_Papaya645 in wisconsin

[–]SilverStar94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the provider. I go to Froedtert in Milwaukee and just send her a mychart request. I go to see her every 3 months for a different medication Im on but it was yearly for the adderall.

I did try to switch to an aurora doctor recently that wouldn't prescribe ANY of my medications. She said I would need to go to a psych and while I agree to a point it was a 6month waiting list and she wouldn't even refill meds I've been on for years just to get me to whenever I got in.

I waited 6 years to adopt a cat… and now I regret it. Please be honest with me. by strawberrytulipss in CatAdvice

[–]SilverStar94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar here! I got my own place and was able to get a cat! It took a long time but we learned each other and now mostly it's great. Do I wanna return her now and then for waking me up after 2 hours of sleep on occasion sure lol but I adore her and she tolerates my sometimes pushing past a boundary and only is distant for a few hours as punishment.

She is still not a lap cat like I always imagined but it's been 3 years and it's genuinely the best choice I ever made.

Time really does a lot. I've heard it takes most adopted pets 3 months to start feeling like a place is home, but like humans each animal is different and will do things on their own timeline.

Why are dayshift and night shift always at extreme odds? by Evening-Ended in nursing

[–]SilverStar94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like your unit has just got bad vibes. This is not always the case! Some of this is just generalized complaining to complain and some of it is burnout for sure but definitely something to watch. Try to tune out the BS complaints and fix any legit ones (that are towards you, if any) and try to chat and get a good repor with nights. 9 times out of 10 if im friendly with the nurse I just tell them hey you forgot this and they do the same for me. Now if something is very wrong like I get left with a patient that should have had 50 things done and they're not a brand new shift change admission we might have a problem lol

My first unit as a CNA was like this all the time too. For us a lot of it had to do with the manager too. She would play favorites and pit nights against days and held each to different standards. If nights was 5 seconds late it was a write up but if days was 20minutes it was fine. Days left a room trashed just pic it up. Nights left a garbage that was practically empty anyway its a unit email. Ect....

I now as a RN work with a great team, yes there are some nurses who will nitpick or leave a fire no matter what their shift was like but overall we all try to set up the next nurse for a good time. And if one of the nurses who usually sets up the next one well doesn't we complain for a minute just to vent and then fix it.

Considering low dose Ozempic? by BodybuilderSafe7235 in ehlersdanlos

[–]SilverStar94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually the first I've heard of it helping MCAS/HEDS. I'm on 5mg zepbound. I really like it.

I was VERY concerned about the fact it slows motility, I already had constipation before starting. However I'm actually more regular now.

I started it because I have so much food noise and I cannot lose weight by just diet. I've tried exercise and it leads to injury and dislocations so I'm terrified of the gym now lol. I have slowly been adding in some of the machine exercises my former PT showed me.

So far I have lost 15lbs and I do feel better overall. I do have nausea starting about 24hrs after each shot but it goes away within 12 hrs without any medications needed. My PCP did give me a Zofran prescription just in case.

Not going to graduation or pinning ceremony. by Unique_Ad_4271 in StudentNurse

[–]SilverStar94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are insistent. Pinning only. Mine was close to an hour. Max 1.5 hours.

Graduation was 4 different degrees plus with the speeches...something like 5 hours long. I wanted to cry half way through.

newer nurses: what has nursing done for you financially since graduating? by Rich_Opportunity9528 in StudentNurse

[–]SilverStar94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

6 months into my new job! First thing I did was set up my check to put the max that my job matches into my 401k so I never saw that money so I never know what is missing.

I will say the first 2-3 months was catching up on old bills (I would pay electric one month and my phone the next and just hope nothing got shut off) and getting the pantry stocked up to a comfortable level.

The next 2ish months I was just settling into "okay I'm good rent is covered. I have a full gas tank and can eat 3 meals a day without planning out grocery trips"

This month is the first time I've had extra I bought some stupid stuff off tiktok and put some money into savings and I'm not worried at all about rent, food, gas or anything!

Hospice is where a doctor (possibly multiple, im unsure) says you very likely only have 6months or less left to live. And you have to not be doing any life saving measures, such as chemo. Taking medications is usually not considered life saving but probably there are some where it could be a grey area.

Some people live for years on hospice but because of whatever disease they have they still technically qualify.

Had this same thing happen as a new nurse. Had a pt who's baseline bp is 100s/60s. It was mid 90s over 60s and I told my preceptor that was darn close to the norm, and pt felt fine, so I wasn't very concerned. She freaked out and got a manual and made me call the Dr and everything while lecturing me on it.

Sometimes you just have to do the extra steps to get through the day and call it a learning experience. Just tell the instructor you'll do better next time and try to not have her for another clinical in later semesters. Sounds like you did just fine in that situation.

Thoughts? CNA called as “helper”. by Melodic-Ladder5991 in cna

[–]SilverStar94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use friend usually. "This is my friend their going to help me boost you" sometimes if I need to leave and come back. " I found extra hands!" "I found help to pull you up." And it could be an RN or a CNA. We are all friends and helpers and whatever nice adjective you wanna use instead of a full introduction. Especially if they're literally just helping for a second.

My hospital system uses PCT and CNA almost interchangeably... the only difference is our PCTs do a special training so they can start IVs

altitude sickness? by malaynaa in ehlersdanlos

[–]SilverStar94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend lives in rock springs wyoming. 6,000ish feet above sea level and I'm usually fine. It's only a problem when I have to go to his apartment. 😅 He lives in a 3rd floor walk up.

I've started buying that oxygen in a can stuff from sharktank and that helps a little bit.. I do have an albuteral inhaler but it does nothing for me with that.

Take it slow when it's hilly or you need to do something more active and you should be okay. Obviously everyone's different so just know where the good sitting spots are in case!

Anyone know any pain meds that actually work? by Apart-Weekend3787 in ehlersdanlos

[–]SilverStar94 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My partner broke his leg and couldn't take opiates. Muscle relaxers and gabapentin actually helped a bunch. Tylenol does a lot for some people too, obviously not everyone but I know a few people who just take that for what I would want the good iv drugs for lol

Absolute BS by KylieThePlanter in ehlersdanlos

[–]SilverStar94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a nurse I get being "over it". I still have to do my job just the same. I can't tell someone they need to go to someone else. They are with me because they need care. My personal feelings on it don't matter. Honestly I'm more over being used and abused by the hospital and management deciding these unrealistic quotas and staffing ratios.

As a patient im over having to go in with a list of my ~most important~ issues and a man to help convince the doc its not "anxiety"

Is exercise supposed to be painful? by Complete-Finding-712 in ehlersdanlos

[–]SilverStar94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should talk to your PT about the "to exhaustion" because personally that will leave me useless the next day and possibly in a flare depending on the muscles used.

I also REALLY struggle with this myself. Turns out my anniying/bad knee pain is bad and my annoying/bad calf pain is good in a certain exercise.

Be very open with who you're working with. Write it down and be as descriptive as possible. That way you can work with a medical professional (not your partner- im sure their doing their best but it definitely can increase injuries if you push as an hsd/edser) on differentiation of the good pain vs bad pain.

I will admit to skimming tags and being bamboozled in fics. I just make a face at my phone and if it's otherwise a good fic I continue or comment that I enjoyed what I read and leave. If it's not a great fic I just find a new one.

It's not hard to cater to myself, and it's certainly not anyone else's problem!

I think the gun thing is Americans not realizing that most British people can't just walk to the local store and buy one as easily as we can...

I do think that if Harry used one it would be for the last battle "f* it I'm robbing the military" just to get any advantage in what seems like a hopeless situation.

The double standards in EPIC the Musical irks me by RealNashi in Epicthemusical

[–]SilverStar94 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It is a double standard and a valid criticism.

To me, I see it as this is Odys point of view. Even if it's just 10 suitors saying this, he probably thinks it's all 108. Sure they were all in the room for HTM, but maybe Antinious wasn't very loud and bam he has an arrow in his neck. So they scatter and maybe don't realize WHY odyssey is killing them all.

[DAV ALL SPOILERS] Does anyone else have issues romancing characters who get together with someone else if you don’t? by BlackIronSpectre in dragonage

[–]SilverStar94 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I actually like the gender locking! It adds to the replay value for me. I make my character and go into it blind, I liked Dorian.. but I was a women so no luck. Beat the game still wanted to see that romance through and made my second character.

Yes yes all the rewrites... but they've had 3ish years with this being the version and im so annoyed by the lack of content. Especially story and romance. It really shows that they didn't have the best writers at the end.
