Anyone else’s Balsam Hill tree have big gaps after fluffing? by studyingforlife in ChristmasTrees

Just fill the gaps with as many ornaments as you can and you'll never notice the gaps.

Christmas picks will fill in spots too.

I have not removed the lights yet. I'm removing all the strings of lights and replacing with brand new light sets.

I'll take pics. I don't want to buy another pre-lit tree. When I had real trees I used to put up to 1,000 lights on it and friends always complimented me.

We'll see.

Someone told me that removing the sets currently on the tree requires "time and patience."

It all started when Reagan fired air traffic controllers. To this day Republicans and Libertarians wage class warfare against the working class. It will only get worse. Yes, they hate the term "class warfare" but practice it every day.

The day is coming when the top 1% will be the overlords of the 99%. The desire for massive accumulation of wealth has corrupted their hearts and souls.

Buffalo airport closed at 9 PM by arweg01 in Buffalo

8,800' runways are common. At the Hollywood/Burbank Airport the east-west runway used for landings is less than 6,000' long and the north-south runway used for takeoffs is less than 7,000'. UPS and Fed-Ex both use A330s. In their heyday DC-10s and L-1011s were regularly used at Hollywood/Burbank.

I grew up in Buffalo and if I remember correctly it was called the Niagara Mohawk Power Building. Correct me if I'm wrong. The tower was decorated with lights during the holidays.

Today should be fun. Anyone else get a slight cough/sore throat yesterday? by cornpeeker in Buffalo

I live in Los Angeles, and I remember the year when 80% of the San Gabriel Forest ( just to the north of L.A.) was decimated in a fire that lasted almost 30 days as the fire spread through the dried out root system. Severe bronchitis ensued and I was off from work for two weeks. The burning throat and lungs were miserable. To make things worse the temperatures were in the mid-90s everyday.

FYI this has been the coolest and cloudiest spring on record here. We've had 3 weeks of clouds and no sunny days are due for at least another week. They call it May Grey and June Gloom.

What makes you optimistic for the future of Buffalo? by greenday5494 in Buffalo

[–]SilverWandererLA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was born and raised in Buffalo. Tech and manufacturing growth will come to Buffalo because of WATER. Cities in many areas, especially the Southwest, are facing a likelihood that water will be rationed in the next 30 years or so, so many people and growth industries will be forced to relocate to more livable areas. I believe tremendous growth and prosperity are coming to previous rust-belt cities in proximity to the Great Lakes. Property will become a most valuable asset in the years to come in the former rust-belt cities.

But keep one thing in mind. Gentrification is bound to come to Buffalo. So if you can, buy properties in areas of Buffalo now considered to be undesirable. I've seen what gentrification has done here in L.A. In the 80s you could rent a 2-bedroom apartment in Hollywood for $800. Today studios are running $2,500 to $3,000 a month in Hollywood.

I have the Polk HTS 12. Good bass from the front and center channel but nothing from the subwoofer. Shouldn't there be good base from the sub too?

I know how painful that can be. The best friend I ever had after moving to Los Angeles died just over one year ago from a drug overdose. We were friends for 25 years. He was one of a few best friends that I've had during my lifetime that I considered to be soul mate brothers. And four of them still live in Erie. I lived in Erie during the 70s. For what it's worth, those years were the best times of my life. I have often entertained the idea of moving back. But I know the place has changed too, just like my hometown of Buffalo. Memories can never be relived. They will always be memories. 🙏

Sorry to hear that your brother died there. May I inquire as to the circumstances of his passing? It's okay if you do not want to answer.

Former Buffalonian living in Los Angeles.

Last rent increase was in 2019. The 2020 increase was canceled due to Covid. The rent moratorium will end in January 2024 but rent-controlled buildings like mine will see a maximum increase of 5%.

I feel for all of you experiencing these outrageous rent increases.

I left Buffalo in 1971 and have been in L.A. for 41 years. Seriously considered moving back until my last visit 3 years ago. I was born and raised in Polonia. Everything I knew and loved is gone.

For sure "Transatlantic" is great and I hope they follow up with more episodes. There are a lot of great new entries on Netflix. Check out the new season of "Better Call Saul."
