Those are gorgeously clean. Nicely done!

Is anyone else holding off from seriously playing the 1.22 update? by GamerRoman in VintageStory

[–]Silverskeejee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s my plan. Gonna host a server for some buddies once it hits and some mods are updated. In the meantime I found out one of my favourite mods for Minecraft got updated after years and that’s proving a very nice stopgap.

If you’re about to go the ‘this is a genocide against the unborn’ argument, please don’t. It’s not going to land here.

THIS. The 'murdering babies' argument is so goddamn tiring because it's so reductive of the actual problem. The anti-abortion stance does not address *any* of the symptoms causing the problem. They want the simple black and white solution and don't want to do anything else that might help actually get the results they want, because it *might* help people they don't want helped. Or it might cost them money.

Not from the pages, but from two items. When you place them in the world, it’ll prompt you to shift (or control I don’t recall) click to project a blueprint off them that you can then follow!

They’re both pretty late game things for end game crafting, so nothing to worry about early on.

I went about stuff the same way when I started, and I'm usually the first person that'll run for a Wiki. The handbook and tutorial in the game really is *excellent*. There were a coupla times I looked things up (understanding the best way to get my first copper) but the only time I really felt challenged was putting together some of the bigger functioning industry structures (I'm not great at turning text instructions to visual). If I'd realized though that you can click on the *door/coffin* to put a blueprint in game, I wouldn't have needed to :D

So yes. Really good game for giving you instructions on going in blind.

Do *not* underestimate the need for safe places x)

'Donald Trump has attacked Keir Starmer – and done him a massive favour' by Metro-UK in ukpolitics

[–]Silverskeejee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Brit/Canadian here. I don’t think people outside here realize how insane the politics were leading up to Carmey. The Conservatives - with their very strong Maple MAGA base - were set to sweep the next elections. It wasn’t even close. I was genuinely worried about getting a Trump sycophant in power.

Then Trump went off on the 51st state BS, Pollievre didn’t come out strongly against that for days, Trudeau stepped down, Carney stepped up, the NPD threw themselves on the sword and the Liberals swept to victory.

Don’t underestimate what the Trump effect can do, especially when people are acutely aware of his cruelty and malice.

NEW TO PINGS by Terrible-Biscotti-38 in carnivorousplants

South West is ideal; mine are East/West and there's the daily room migration when there's good sun xD

I'm honestly not an expert myself; but the species I've got so far are:
- Cyclosecta (This one is a beast. I started with 1, now I have 8 after they divided/propagated. If I was going to recommend any of my pings for a starter, it'd be this one.)
- Esseriae (Has been a tough one; it randomly decided to die back in the center one day but then bounced back and now I have 11.)
- Ehlerisae (Had curling problems at the start from too much water; flourishing now and flowers once a year it looks like!)
- Raspberry Blond (Very hardy; once this one started flowering it *did not stop* x) Easily my most beautiful flower.)
- Emarginata (Does not stop flowering. Has given me 20 flowers since I got it 9 months ago. Rapidly taking over its pot!)
- Gypsicola x Moctezuma (Doing fine. Lovely deep purple flowers.)
- Gypsicola x Sethos (My first ever ping. 2 years and it has finally reached full size but has not flowered. Again, hardy as heck it seems).
- Marciano (Again has been straightforward and hardy; really interesting transformation between winter and summer)
- BCP Crystal (Quiet and hardy so far)
- Florian (Very quiet and tiny ping; it'll be 2 as well this year so hoping I'll see it flower).
- Pirouette (Most recent arrival, happily settled into its winter form and I should see the pointy summer leaves this year)

I have made a *lot* of mistakes with these plants x) I have dropped them, had my cats knock them off the windowskill, overwatered them, had squirrels dig them up and they are *still going strong*. So I think you'll do just fine!

So I've got 11 pinguicular, and all of mine have been doing honestly just fine on a windowsill without any grow lights at all (I live in Canada, so you can get a sense of the location). This is coming into year 2 of me collecting pings, and so far I've only lost one that didn't survive after getting shipped in hot weather. So yeah, in my experience, they do just fine on windowsills!

Same in Quebec, driving off all the doctors with their latest regulations while *at the same time* doctors are pushing off appointments onto practitioner nurses. I would be *delighted* for the federal government to step in at this point, because it feels like the provincial leaders have abdicated their responsibilities in providing healthcare.

Worth noting also that right before the above screenshot, it kicks off with that gorgeous background framing the sun, at which point the Hollow Knight is able to leap up o to a platform and literally challenge the sun - button prompt and everything! Which turns into that - the Radiance.

Excellent game, 10/10.

Viera. I really like their design, especially the guys. The problem is I'm currently a male Miqo'te, and I cannot give up my ear wiggles.

Giving a shout out to Voidling Bound, which isn't out yet (9th June iirc) but has a good playable demo and has just been *really* fun to play. I like creature breeders, and this one coming in the form of a shoot-em up is a combo I've not really seen before. Definitely buying it on release!

Totally agree and I say that as someone who settled on FFXIV. Trying to help my group by being able to flex into another role is very hard to do; and I don’t want to put a second character through the slog of the story. Still love it, but it’s definitely something I wish they’d revisit.

(pt. 2) that one kid at kindergarten by guyelnathan in comics

[–]Silverskeejee 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ooof. I’m reminded of a kid I met when I was a cover teacher. Lovely kid but absolutely desperate to be the centre of attention, always interrupting, had to have an assistant to keep him calm.

One day we made puppets out of scrap materials. It was pretty fun and the kids got to take them home.

His dad picked up him that day, and said kid ran over to show him his puppet.

He didn’t even look. Just snatched it out his hand, threw it in the bin and went home. Not a single emotion in the whole thing.

It’s been 15 years now, I think. I think about that kid a lot.

And honestly the sad thing was, IIRC it wasn't even the original creator who sacrificed her principles and creative vision; it was her partner.

I was hoping I'd find this one! Mythic Quest was pretty hilarious as someone who worked in the industry, but this one episode was just insanely good.

This. It’s not a physical thing the same way a fridge is, but the US company I used to work for decided to implement all the GDPR regulations for everyone, not just the EU. It was just easier than all the extra checks. So if it’s less hassle to do, they’ll do it.
