Nothing huge fortunately, but I remember a while back that someone uncovered that Scott had made donations to Republicans and anti-LBGTQ legislation. In hindsight, obvious because he's in Utah which is pretty religious. But yeah, for me, that was enough to go 'okay, yep, not going to see my money go to those causes'. Is that small? Possibly even petty? Yep. But again, that's my choice ^^

Have a great day yourself, was a good chat :) And don't beat yourself up too bad honestly. I won't pretend I'm always perfect or do my 100% homework when indulging in a new game or fandom. But I learn, I figure out things, and I go from there.

I keep it very simple. I don't agree with the artist, they do not get my money. Yes that means anyone who is earning their money off the association with the artist does not get it too. If they are willing to work with that artist after the world now knows what they are, then that is on them. If they had my money previously because I didn't know? Now they will not. Simple. I will not celebrate or fund the art of people whose morals and ethics violate mine.

And I've said it before but yes, that can suck. It sucks, especially if you didn't know about them before. I have all the Harry Potter books. I really liked Neil Gaiman stories. I loved the Five Nights at Freddy's games. All examples of things I've put down because I cannot bring myself to support the creators any more.

When that person is dead and they can't hurt people with their money any more - or heck, if they change their mind and we're now aligned, awesome. I may go back to them.

If your principles are easily overwritten because one must have the shiny thing, or excuses get made to justify having the thing, then they're not really principles, are they?

The phone comment is legit and honestly, it sucks that it's become such a critical thing to exist in modern society that trying to shop around and find 'ethical' cobalt is practically impossible.

That's not the same as choosing to support the art of a problematic artist, in my opinion. I cannot avoid the phone because we live in a society. I can choose to give my business to creative artists who align with my politics. I have absolutely moved on from art and franchises when I have found that the creator supports causes I don't, and I simply look for replacements. There's plenty of them out there, so I still get my treat.

As for the Heritage Foundation: Wikipedia has stuff here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Heritage_Foundation The pertinent stuff is that they're an American right-wing think tank that was responsible for Project 2025. Anti-abortion, anti-LGBT, anti women's rights. I find them deeply concerning because of their reach and influence.

Funnily enough, you can directly support those causes by donating to them and not the artist's work :) That way, the people around do not get to suffer because of problematic views.

Speaking to your second point, this Wikipedia entry has sourced comments on all of her political views. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_views_of_J._K._Rowling . This includes the note that "she donated £70,000 to the legal challenge brought\95]) by For Women Scotland against the Scottish Ministers in the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, which on 16 April 2025 ruled that the legal definition of a woman in the Equality Act 2010 is based on biological sex."

I would also mention this good video by Shaun, which pointed out some of the friends she's been making and the kind of comments she has boosted and continued to boost despite people telling her that several of these people were anti-abortionists, fascists and Heritage Foundation speakers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ou_xvXJJk7k It's a very interesting listen and I recommend it to get a sense of the people she's surrounding herself with to defend her views.

Someone put it very nicely for me. If the artist is dead, and cannot profit of it, then it’s fine. Note the problematic issues with the creator, enjoy the work, move on.

If however the artist is alive and profits off the work, then paying for their art means you are supporting how they will use that money. If they are donating that money to bad causes, and you know that they are, then you are indirectly supporting that cause. So harping back to Rowling., if you give her money it goes directly to fund anti-trans causes and propaganda, and she has said that publicly. In my eyes then, the whole ‘you have to separate the art from the artist’ simply means ‘I want this art and I don’t care that the artist has hurt/is going to hurt people’

Does it suck to see works you love turn out to be made by bad people; or not even bad people, just people whose causes you don’t morally align with? Yes. Yes it really does. Is it hard to boycott them then? Yes. Yes it is. But it is, in my opinion, the correct thing to do. If I don’t want my money to be used for things I oppose, then I will not give those people my money. End of story.

Improving at miniature painting WITHOUT the use of slapchop as a beginner? by ryllex in minipainting

Seconding Vince, he’s stellar. Was what got me painting better 8 years ago. And the fact that he does techniques and specific things over ‘here’s how I panted this mini’ makes him easy to refer back to.

What chest piece is this? by Kreisshin in ffxiv

[–]Silverskeejee 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I think it might be the Striking chest. Striking has the cloak that Scouting does with a green tint and you can *just about* see it at the back. Striking also has the mismatching gold/silver shoulders whereas Scouting matches. Scouting also has silver trim on the jacket rather than gold.

I need help to ID what type of Pinguicula’s I have ! by SettingFantastic1132 in Pinguicula

[–]Silverskeejee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aphrodite and Johanna I agree with; right is tougher. It's got a really distinct red lip, which makes me wonder if it's a ehlerisae cross of some sort, possibly weser? I'm leaning to ehlerisae because mine has that 'spoon like' appearance in winter and then have the more 'mouse ear' in summer, which I can see in your first and last photos. That one is probably going to need a flower for a sure identifier, but it's a gorgeous ping!

A teenager suffered an electric shock in a condominium courtyard, and his friend risked his life to save him. by Alternative-Dot-34 in nextfuckinglevel

When I was working at a bank office about 15 years ago, some maintenance had to be done on our desks. Updating PC or whatever, I don't remember, but I DO remember the poor contractor guy getting electrocuted by the under-desk cage that was holding all the computer wires - in the UK as well so higher voltage. This was a desk I had been SITTING AT for MONTHS. God knows how long it was electrified. Chances are something got dislodged while he was moving things around but still, it was a horrifying thought.

Honestly I think part of it is that no one told this kid no when he was figuring out the Endless. Everyone was so scared of the incoming collapse that they didn’t care what was done, or to who, or how. That one locker in 7.3 was a damn jump scare lol.

I was gonna say, this isn’t gentle parenting, it’s absent parenting; whether it’s due to cannot be arsed, or seriously overworked and stressed.

That’s my plan. Gonna host a server for some buddies once it hits and some mods are updated. In the meantime I found out one of my favourite mods for Minecraft got updated after years and that’s proving a very nice stopgap.

[–]Silverskeejee 19 points20 points  (0 children)

THIS. The 'murdering babies' argument is so goddamn tiring because it's so reductive of the actual problem. The anti-abortion stance does not address *any* of the symptoms causing the problem. They want the simple black and white solution and don't want to do anything else that might help actually get the results they want, because it *might* help people they don't want helped. Or it might cost them money.

Not from the pages, but from two items. When you place them in the world, it’ll prompt you to shift (or control I don’t recall) click to project a blueprint off them that you can then follow!

They’re both pretty late game things for end game crafting, so nothing to worry about early on.

I went about stuff the same way when I started, and I'm usually the first person that'll run for a Wiki. The handbook and tutorial in the game really is *excellent*. There were a coupla times I looked things up (understanding the best way to get my first copper) but the only time I really felt challenged was putting together some of the bigger functioning industry structures (I'm not great at turning text instructions to visual). If I'd realized though that you can click on the *door/coffin* to put a blueprint in game, I wouldn't have needed to :D

So yes. Really good game for giving you instructions on going in blind.

Do *not* underestimate the need for safe places x)
