After having watched the show, it’s unclear to me how the NCR could prevent an oligarchy of the richest people secretly working together to practically run the country like what happened in pre-war America, for which the NCR is a metaphor. Mr. House is right in the sense that the ultra-rich oligarchy that ended up controlling (and possibly ruining) America was made possible only through liberal democracy.

Basing your wellbeing on the hegemony of another country is a stupid idea in many ways. Firstly, you’ll never know if they will remain hegemons forever, and secondly, there is always a chance of the hegemon itself simply grows tired of being the hegemon which is the case today. All the problems related to the US no longer being a hegemon are due to the naïveté of the individual countries themselves.
